You cannot connect a Nintendo Switch to a TV wirelessly using only the console and television. Nintendo provides no Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, Chromecast, Miracast, or Smart View game-video output mode. The official method uses a compatible dock, power adapter, and HDMI cable. If routing that cable is impractical, a third-party wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver can replace the cable, but it is an external workaround with possible latency and compatibility problems.
What “wireless” means for a Switch
The Switch supports wireless internet and wireless controllers, but Nintendo does not provide wireless display mirroring to a TV. A smart TV cannot pair directly with the Switch for gameplay, and the console has no menu option for casting to Chromecast, AirPlay, Miracast, or Samsung Smart View.
A wireless HDMI kit works differently: its transmitter receives the HDMI signal from the dock, sends it over its own wireless link, and a receiver converts it back to HDMI for the TV. The Switch itself has not gained wireless video output.

Nintendo identifies Switch Lite as incompatible with TV Mode in its support documentation: Nintendo Switch TV-mode requirements. Switch 2 uses a different dock; the original Switch dock is not compatible, and the original adapter is not sufficient for Switch 2 docked TV mode: Nintendo’s Switch and Switch 2 accessory guidance.

Official setup for Switch or Switch OLED
What you need
- Nintendo Switch or Switch OLED console
- Compatible Nintendo Switch dock
- Nintendo AC adapter model HAC-002
- HDMI cable
- TV or monitor with an HDMI input
Connect it step by step
- Open the dock’s rear cover.
- Plug the USB-C end of the HAC-002 adapter into the port labeled AC ADAPTER.
- Connect the adapter to a wall outlet.
- Plug one end of the HDMI cable into HDMI OUT on the dock.
- Connect the other end to an HDMI input on the TV.
- Close the dock cover.
- If the Joy-Con have never been paired for wireless use, attach them to the console first.
- Place the console in the dock with its screen facing the same direction as the dock’s front panel.
- Turn on the TV and select the HDMI input used by the dock.
When the connection is working, the Switch screen turns off and the game appears on the TV. Nintendo’s complete procedure is documented at Nintendo Support.
Official setup for Nintendo Switch 2
Use the correct generation of accessories
- Nintendo Switch 2 console and Switch 2 dock
- Switch 2 AC adapter, identified by Nintendo as model NGN-01 or the regionally supplied equivalent
- Ultra High Speed HDMI cable
- TV with an HDMI input
The original Switch AC adapter may charge a Switch 2 directly, but Nintendo says it cannot provide adequate power for Switch 2 TV mode. The original dock also cannot be used with Switch 2.
Connect Switch 2
- Open the rear cover of the Switch 2 dock.
- Connect the Switch 2 adapter to the dock’s power port and then to a wall outlet.
- Connect the supplied Ultra High Speed HDMI cable to the dock’s HDMI port and the TV.
- Close the dock cover and place the console in the dock.
- Turn on the TV and select the matching HDMI input.

Best ways to avoid a long HDMI cable
1. Use a longer HDMI cable
This is usually the least expensive, lowest-latency, and easiest-to-troubleshoot solution. Route it along a wall, under suitable cable covers, or behind furniture. Very long or poorly made cables can still cause signal problems.
2. Install an in-wall HDMI run
For a permanent installation, an in-wall-rated cable or HDMI wall plate hides the connection. Follow local electrical and building requirements and choose a cable rated for the installation path.
3. Use an HDMI-over-Ethernet extender
A transmitter and receiver connected by dedicated network-style cabling can provide a predictable fixed-room link. It remains a wired signal path and requires hardware at both ends.

4. Use wireless HDMI
Choose this only when a cable genuinely cannot be routed. It costs more and can add display delay, reduce available resolution or refresh rate, drop signal through walls, require extra power outlets, or suffer HDMI handshake failures. It is not Nintendo-certified.
How to use a wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver
Exact ports and power requirements differ by product, so follow the kit’s manual. The normal arrangement is:
- Complete the normal dock setup and connect the transmitter to the dock’s HDMI OUT port.
- Power the transmitter as specified, commonly from USB or a wall adapter.
- Connect the receiver to an HDMI input on the TV.
- Power the receiver.
- Select the TV input used by the receiver.
- Test ordinary and fast-paced games at the intended distance before permanently installing the equipment.
Before buying, verify the dock’s HDMI compatibility, supported resolution and refresh rate, claimed latency, range through walls, separate power requirements, automatic wake-up behavior, firmware support, warranty, and return policy. Manufacturer latency figures may not reflect real gameplay. When wireless HDMI is a poor choice
- Competitive games where input-to-display delay matters.
- Transmission through several rooms or thick walls.
- TVs or AV systems that frequently lose HDMI handshakes.
- Users expecting a Nintendo-supported, plug-and-play feature.
- Situations where a short or concealed HDMI cable would solve the problem.
A capture card can send the Switch image to a computer for streaming or mirroring, but software, extra hardware, and additional latency make it unsuitable as an easy living-room solution.
Troubleshoot a wired connection first
“No Signal” on the TV
- Confirm the TV is set to the HDMI input used by the dock.
- Remove HDMI switches, splitters, selectors, soundbars, and AV receivers temporarily.
- Connect the dock directly to the TV.
- Check both HDMI plugs and confirm the dock is powered.
- Use the correct adapter for the console generation.
- Undock and redock the console, then restart it.
- Try another TV HDMI port and another compatible cable.
- Reset the adapter: unplug it from the dock and wall outlet, wait 20 seconds, then reconnect it.
The console screen stays on while docked
The screen normally turns off in TV mode. Check power, cable connections, and that the console is seated correctly. If the problem persists after testing another port and cable, Nintendo’s guidance may require service; see Nintendo’s video-output support page.
A Switch Lite will not display
This is a model limitation, not a settings failure. Switch Lite does not support TV Mode, so a dock, USB-C adapter, or wireless HDMI system cannot provide Nintendo-supported TV output.

Switch 2 does not work with old accessories
Use the Switch 2 dock, its higher-power adapter, and the required Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Do not assume an original Switch dock or adapter transfers to the newer console.
Choose the right solution

Do not buy Chromecast, AirPlay receivers, Bluetooth adapters, or generic “wireless Switch TV” dongles unless the product clearly identifies a dock-compatible HDMI transmitter and receiver. Those technologies do not add an official wireless-display feature to the Switch.
