Most ordinary Bluetooth speakers cannot be paired directly with a PS5 as an audio output. The simplest workaround is to pair the speaker with your TV, which receives PS5 sound over HDMI. If your TV does not support Bluetooth audio, a compatible Bluetooth transmitter connected to the TV’s audio output may work—but compatibility and audio delay depend on your equipment.
Can you connect a Bluetooth speaker directly to a PS5?
Direct pairing of a standard Bluetooth speaker with a PS5 is not established as a supported audio connection. Sony’s PS5 FAQ says third-party wireless headsets that use Bluetooth are not supported. That statement is specifically about headsets, not speakers, so it should not be read as a speaker-specific ruling.
For an existing Bluetooth speaker, route the PS5’s HDMI audio through a TV that supports Bluetooth audio output. The speaker then pairs with the TV—not with the PS5.
Connect the speaker through your TV
- Connect the PS5 to the TV with HDMI as usual.
- Open the TV’s sound or Bluetooth settings and pair the Bluetooth speaker. Menu names and available options vary by TV.
- On the PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and check the selected output device. You can also open the Control Center, select Sound, and change the output device. Sony documents these controls in its PS5 audio settings guide.
- Play audio and adjust volume using the controls available on your TV and speaker.
Whether the TV can send audio from its active HDMI input to a Bluetooth speaker depends on the TV model and settings. If you can pair the speaker but hear no sound, check the TV’s audio-output selection and its instructions for Bluetooth audio while HDMI is in use.

Use a Bluetooth transmitter if the TV has no Bluetooth audio
A transmitter may provide a workaround if your TV has an audio output that matches the transmitter’s input. The PS5 still sends audio to the TV over HDMI; the speaker pairs with the transmitter, not the console.
- Check the TV’s available audio outputs and confirm that the transmitter supports that exact connection and the audio format the TV sends.
- Connect the transmitter to the TV, then select that output in the TV’s sound settings if needed.
- Put the transmitter and speaker into pairing mode and follow the transmitter’s pairing instructions.
- Test game audio for delay before settling on this setup.
This is not guaranteed to work with every TV and transmitter combination. Confirm that the TV can output audio through the chosen port while HDMI is active. Wireless audio can also arrive late enough to feel out of sync during gameplay; a product’s latency specifications and return terms are worth checking before buying.

Consider speakers designed for PS5
PULSE Elevate is described by PlayStation as a desktop speaker system for PS5, PC, and Mac. For PS5 gaming audio, it uses PlayStation Link. Its Bluetooth connection is for compatible devices such as phones, TVs, and streaming devices; it is not an ordinary Bluetooth speaker that pairs directly with the PS5. Availability may vary by region.

If personal audio is acceptable, Sony says most USB and analog headsets are supported on PS5. A compatible headset can connect through 3.5 mm, USB-A, or USB-C, and the DualSense controller has a 3.5 mm headset jack. These are headset options, not methods for connecting a Bluetooth speaker. What to check when the speaker will not play PS5 audio
- Direct Bluetooth pairing: Do not assume an ordinary Bluetooth speaker can pair directly with the console. Sony’s published Bluetooth restriction is specifically about third-party wireless headsets.
- TV connection: Confirm that the speaker is selected as the TV’s audio output, and check whether the TV supports Bluetooth audio from HDMI inputs.
- Transmitter connection: Make sure the transmitter’s input matches the TV’s output and that the TV can use that output while receiving HDMI audio.
- PS5 output selection: Check Settings > Sound > Audio Output or the Control Center’s Sound controls.
- Audio delay: If sound does not match the picture or gameplay, the TV or wireless connection may be adding latency. The amount varies by equipment.
