To connect an Oculus Quest 2 (now branded Meta Quest 2) to an iPhone or Android phone, install the current Meta Quest mobile app, sign in to the correct Meta account, enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, then pair the headset from the app’s Devices section. Do not rely on the phone’s ordinary Bluetooth menu alone. If automatic discovery fails, enter the pairing code displayed inside the headset. App names and menu labels can change, so look for the official Meta app published by Meta rather than an old app literally called Oculus.
What “connect Quest 2 to phone” actually means
Quest 2 phone connection can refer to three different things:
- Initial pairing: linking the headset to the Meta mobile app and the account that administers it.
- Device management: using the app to configure Wi-Fi, view battery status, install apps and change settings.
- Casting: showing the headset view on the phone.
Bluetooth settings alone do not complete app pairing. Bluetooth and the local Wi-Fi network help the app discover and communicate with the headset, while the Meta account establishes ownership and management access. Meta support recommends enabling Bluetooth and placing the phone and headset on the same Wi-Fi network during pairing: Meta pairing guidance.
What you need before pairing
- A Quest 2 with enough charge to remain powered through setup.
- An iPhone or Android phone that can install the current Meta Quest app.
- The Meta account intended to own or administer the headset.
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled on the phone.
- Wi-Fi enabled on the headset, with both devices preferably on the same ordinary home network.
- Reliable internet access for account authentication, downloads and updates.
- The two devices close together.
Do not depend on old minimum iOS or Android numbers from legacy guides. The current App Store or Google Play listing is the appropriate compatibility reference.

Step 1: Install the official Meta Quest app
- Open the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Search for the current Meta Quest app; some Meta support material and newer branding may refer to the Meta Horizon app.
- Verify that Meta is the publisher.
- Install or update the app. Avoid old “Oculus” APKs and unofficial download sites.
Meta’s current product and help hubs are Meta Quest and Meta Quest Help. Exact app branding and screens may change with updates.
Step 2: Sign in and approve permissions
Sign in with the Meta account that should administer the headset. A phone signed into an unrelated account may not be able to manage an already-owned Quest 2.
When the app requests access, allow the permissions needed for discovery. Depending on your operating-system and app version, these can include:

- Charge the headset if its battery is low.
- Turn it on and keep it awake near the phone.
- For a new or freshly reset headset, leave it at the setup screen.
- For an already-configured headset, simply wake it and make sure it is connected to Wi-Fi.
If the headset was bought used, the previous owner should remove it from their Meta account or reset it before handoff. An account association left behind can look like a pairing failure.
Step 4: Start pairing in the mobile app
- Open the Meta app.
- Go to Menu → Devices.
- Choose Pair Your Headset, Add device or Pair a new headset, depending on the app version.
- Select Quest 2 and continue.
The documented legacy route is Menu → Devices → Pair Your Headset → Quest 2 → Continue; the destination is more important than the exact wording. A support reference showing this flow is available at this pairing-path document.

Step 5: Enter the pairing code when requested
The app may pair automatically. If it asks for a code, look inside the active headset setup screen and type the code exactly as displayed. Meta support describes a five-digit code in the current flow: Meta support guidance.
This is not your Meta password or Wi-Fi password. Do not use an old screenshot or a code from another headset. If no code appears, the headset may already be configured, may be on the wrong screen, or the app may be trying to add the wrong model or account.

- Select the Wi-Fi network the headset should use.
- Enter its password.
- Leave the phone and headset powered while updates download and install.
- Follow prompts to pair or update the Touch controllers.
- Complete the headset’s boundary, Guardian, account and safety instructions.
Pairing is complete when the Quest 2 appears in the app’s Devices area and device controls or status information are available.
How to reconnect an already-set-up Quest 2
- Sign in to the Meta app with the administering account.
- Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
- Open Menu → Devices.
- Select the Quest 2 if it is listed.
- If it is absent, choose the add or pair-headset option and select Quest 2.
- Enter the code shown inside the headset if prompted.
A second phone can use the headset when it has the appropriate account access, but do not assume unrestricted simultaneous management or ownership by unrelated accounts.
How to cast Quest 2 to your phone
Casting is separate from initial pairing. First complete the app pairing above. Then:
- Put the phone and headset on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the Meta app and keep it open.
- Use the app’s Cast control or the headset’s sharing/casting control.
- Select the phone as the destination and accept any confirmation prompt.

Quest 2 will not pair: fixes in the right order
- Wake the headset: confirm it is powered on and not asleep.
- Move closer: keep the phone within a few feet during discovery.
- Reset Bluetooth: turn Bluetooth off and back on.
- Check Wi-Fi: enable Wi-Fi on both devices and connect them to the same normal network.
- Remove network obstacles: temporarily disable VPNs, private relay, guest isolation and captive-portal connections.
- Verify the account: use the account that owns or administers the headset.
- Review permissions: restore Bluetooth, Nearby devices, local-network and any requested location access.
- Restart: close and reopen the app, then restart both the phone and headset.
- Update: install available Meta app and headset software updates.
- Reinstall: remove and reinstall the Meta app, then repeat pairing.
If the pairing code is rejected
- Confirm that the app is pairing a Quest 2.
- Read the code from the current headset screen.
- Check the Meta account and ownership status.
- Restart both devices and retry after reinstalling the app if necessary.
If Bluetooth says connected but the app does not
Remove the stale Quest-related Bluetooth entry, restart both devices, and pair from the Meta app’s Devices flow. Generic Bluetooth status does not prove that account and app pairing succeeded.
Android-only optional recovery
Some Android devices expose a cache-clearing route such as Settings → Apps → Bluetooth → Storage → Clear Cache. Manufacturers use different labels, and the option may not exist. Treat it as an optional step from Meta’s troubleshooting discussion, not a universal instruction: Meta troubleshooting discussion.
iPhone-only optional recovery
In Settings → Bluetooth, forget the stale Quest-related entry if one is visible, restart the iPhone, then repeat pairing in the Meta app. Do not erase unrelated Bluetooth accessories unless needed.
When the code never appears
Restart the headset, reopen the app’s pairing flow and verify the account and model. Reinstall the app if its pairing data appears stale. A factory reset should be near the end of recovery: it erases local headset data and is generally more appropriate for a used device or an unrecoverable setup than for a first troubleshooting attempt.

Used Quest 2
Ask the previous owner to remove the headset from their Meta account or reset it before transfer. If ownership remains unclear, contact Meta rather than trying random account changes.
Older or managed phones
The current mobile app determines compatibility. School, enterprise, child and supervised accounts can impose additional restrictions; follow the account owner’s permissions and Meta’s current support process.

Hotspots and USB-C cables
A phone hotspot may work in some configurations but is less reliable when the phone is simultaneously running the app and providing the network. A USB-C cable is normally for charging or computer operations, not the primary mobile-app pairing method.

Can Quest 2 connect to an iPhone?
Yes. Install the official Meta app, sign in, allow requested Bluetooth and local-network access, and pair from Devices.
Can Quest 2 connect to Android?
Yes. The process is the same in principle; Android may additionally request Nearby devices or location access.
Can I pair Quest 2 without the app?
Not for normal setup and management. The phone’s generic Bluetooth screen is not a replacement for pairing through the Meta app.
Do the phone and headset always need the same Wi-Fi?
Same Wi-Fi is strongly recommended for discovery, management and casting, although Bluetooth also participates in initial discovery. Guest isolation and different networks with similar names can still block communication.
Does pairing let me make phone calls in VR?
Pairing links the headset to the Meta app; it does not automatically turn Quest 2 into a general phone-call headset.

Will a factory reset erase my games?
It erases local headset data. Apps purchased through your Meta account can generally be downloaded again after setup, but reset the headset only after less destructive fixes have failed.
When to contact Meta Support
Get official support if the code never appears after restarting and reinstalling, the headset seems locked to another owner, the app repeatedly crashes, setup cannot finish after a reset, or the headset has battery, charging or other hardware symptoms. Those cases may require account or device records that the phone app cannot repair.
