To use Voicemod in Roblox, select your real microphone and headphones in Voicemod, then route Roblox’s microphone input through Voicemod Virtual Microphone. Keep Voicemod open and join Voice Chat inside an experience that supports it. If Roblox does not offer a microphone selector, set Voicemod as Windows’ default recording device. Roblox Voice Chat eligibility is separate: installing Voicemod does not enable it.
What you need
- A desktop installation of Roblox and Voicemod running on the same computer.
- A working physical microphone and headphones or a headset. Headphones help stop game audio from feeding back into the microphone.
- Permission for Roblox and Voicemod to access the microphone in your operating system.
- Roblox Voice Chat access and an experience that supports the feature.
The audio paths are different: physical microphone → Voicemod → Voicemod Virtual Microphone → Roblox Voice Chat. Game audio should go from Roblox to your physical headphones. Do not choose Voicemod’s virtual device as your headphone output.
Set up Voicemod
- Install and open Voicemod. Keep it running while using Roblox; the virtual microphone needs the app open to pass along processed audio. See Voicemod’s setup instructions.
- In Voicemod, open Settings. Set Input device to your physical microphone and Output device to your headphones or headset.
- Select a voice effect and speak into your microphone. If available, turn on Hear Myself to check the effect through your headphones. Adjust the input level so it is clear without reaching the red zone; Voicemod also offers input and audio-quality guidance.
If Voicemod does not pick up your normal voice or the effect cannot be heard in this check, fix the microphone, device selection, or effect in Voicemod before changing Roblox settings.

Choose Voicemod in Roblox if an input selector is available
If the Roblox client or experience you are using exposes a microphone input selector, choose Voicemod Virtual Microphone or the similarly named Voicemod Virtual Audio Device. The precise label can vary with the Voicemod version and how Windows presents the device. Roblox’s current Voice Chat instructions focus on joining Voice Chat in an experience, so do not assume that every client has a general microphone dropdown.

Set the Windows default input if Roblox has no selector
- Close Roblox if it is already running.
- Open Control Panel, select Sound, then open the Recording tab.
- Select Voicemod Virtual Audio Device or Voicemod Virtual Microphone, then choose Set Default and apply the change.
- Make sure the device is enabled and not muted. Leave Voicemod open, then relaunch Roblox.
This default-input method can also affect other apps that use Windows’ default microphone, such as calls or recording software. Voicemod documents this fallback for games and platforms without built-in audio settings: set up Voicemod where no audio selector is available.
Enable Roblox Voice Chat
As of August 18, 2026, Roblox says Voice Chat requires users to be at least 13, complete an age check through ID verification or Facial Age Estimation, and be in a supported region. Phone verification alone does not meet the current age-check requirement. Voice Chat is not automatically enabled for every eligible account.

- Complete the age check if Roblox prompts you to do so.
- Join an experience that supports Voice Chat.
- Use the in-experience headphone icon or the experience’s settings to join or enable Voice Chat.
- Check that your microphone is not muted in the experience.
Roblox explains its current activation process in its Voice Chat activation instructions. Developers choose whether an experience supports Voice Chat; a microphone setting cannot enable it in an experience that has not integrated the feature. See Roblox’s Voice FAQ for availability details.

Test the whole audio path
- Speak into the physical microphone and confirm Voicemod’s input meter responds.
- With Hear Myself enabled, confirm you hear the selected effect through your headphones.
- Join Voice Chat in a supported experience and check that Roblox shows you as connected and not muted.
- Ask another player whether they can hear the changed voice. Monitoring yourself only confirms the Voicemod side; it does not prove Roblox is receiving that device.
- Confirm game audio still comes through your physical headphones.
Fix common Voicemod and Roblox problems
Roblox does not show Voice Chat
- Check that the account is at least 13 and has completed the required age check.
- Check regional availability and whether the current experience supports Voice Chat.
- Look for the in-experience headphone icon or Voice Chat control rather than expecting a universal microphone menu.
- If you have just completed an age check or changed settings, restart Roblox and check again.
Roblox sends your normal voice instead of the effect
Roblox may be using the physical microphone directly, Voicemod may be closed, or the virtual device may have been selected as output rather than input. Close Roblox, open Voicemod, confirm it hears your physical microphone and applies the effect, set the Voicemod virtual device as the Windows default recording device, then relaunch Roblox. Roblox cannot access the microphone
- Check Windows microphone privacy permissions and make sure Roblox and Voicemod are allowed to use the microphone.
- Check the physical microphone’s hardware mute switch and Windows Recording settings.
- Make sure the Voicemod virtual device is enabled and not muted.
- In Voicemod, confirm the correct physical input is selected and that its meter responds.
- Close and reopen Roblox after enabling the device or changing the default input.

Other players hear silence or very low volume
Check Voicemod’s input meter, Windows microphone level, the Voicemod device’s mute state, any headset mute switch, and Roblox’s in-experience mute control. A very low input level can be hard to hear; an excessive level can distort the signal. If the effect makes speech difficult to understand, try a less aggressive effect.

You hear echo or feedback
Use headphones instead of speakers, since speakers can send game audio back into the microphone. Turn off Hear Myself after testing if its monitoring is distracting, reduce microphone sensitivity if necessary, and keep the microphone away from speakers. Keep Roblox audio routed to your physical headphones.

Voicemod’s Roblox-specific support article says the Microsoft Store installation does not have microphone capability for this use case and recommends installing Roblox through Roblox.com. The experience has no Voice Chat
Try another experience that supports Voice Chat. Developers decide whether to integrate the feature, so changing Voicemod or Windows settings cannot add it to an unsupported experience.

Voicemod’s general setup instructions for macOS say to select the physical microphone as the input and headphones as the output. If an app only uses the system’s default input, open Audio MIDI Setup, find Voicemod Microphone, and choose Use This Device for Sound Input. The documented Windows Control Panel steps do not apply to macOS. Device names and controls can vary by macOS and Voicemod versions, and this setup does not establish that every Roblox/macOS configuration supports the same Voice Chat routing. Voice effects do not change Roblox’s rules
Voice Chat remains subject to Roblox’s Community Standards and moderation. Do not use effects to harass, deceive, impersonate others, or evade account controls; violations may result in Voice Chat suspension or other enforcement. Keep soundboard clips and effects appropriate to the experience and intelligible to other players. Roblox describes its rules and enforcement in its Voice Chat help article.
