You can use YouTube on PS4 and PS5 to watch videos, upload gameplay clips, or broadcast a game—but each task uses a different connection method. Sign in inside the YouTube app to watch your account’s videos and subscriptions. To livestream, link YouTube for broadcasting and then start a broadcast from the console. To use a phone as a remote, pair it with the YouTube app. Linking one way does not necessarily sign you in for the others.
This guide covers PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, and PS5 Pro. App availability and menu labels can vary by region, system language, and software version.
Choose the connection you need

You do not need a capture card to broadcast directly from a PS4 or PS5. A camera is optional and only needed if you want to show yourself on stream.

- Connect your PS4 or PS5 to the internet and sign in to the PlayStation Network account you intend to use.
- Install the official YouTube app and update it if an update is available.
- Have access to the Google account and its sign-in method, including two-step verification if enabled.
- For livestreaming, make sure YouTube has enabled live streaming for the channel. Linking the console does not automatically grant live-stream access; complete any YouTube verification or activation the account requires.
- If you want a facecam, use a compatible PlayStation camera: the PS5 HD Camera (CFI-ZEY series) or the PS4 PlayStation Camera (CUH-ZEY series). Neither is required for gameplay-only streaming.
Connect YouTube to PS4
Install YouTube
- Open PlayStation Store.
- Search for YouTube and select Download.
- When installation finishes, open TV & Video and select YouTube.
These are PlayStation’s documented PS4 steps; wording or placement may differ slightly with your region, language, or system software. See PlayStation’s PS4 YouTube setup guide.

Sign in to watch
- Open the YouTube app and choose Sign in.
- Follow the authentication method currently displayed by the app. It may offer a code, a QR code, or another device/browser sign-in flow.
- Use the Google account associated with the YouTube profile or channel you want, and check the selected channel if prompted.
Being signed in to PSN does not mean you are signed in to YouTube. You may need to authenticate separately in the YouTube app.
Link YouTube for PS4 broadcasts
- On the PS4, open Settings → Account Management → Link with Other Services.
- Select YouTube and sign in.
- Complete any requested verification, including a two-step verification code if prompted.
To go live, start a game, press the controller’s SHARE button, choose Broadcast Gameplay, select YouTube, confirm the account, adjust the broadcast settings, and start the broadcast. YouTube must separately allow live streaming on the selected channel. PlayStation documents this process in its PS4 broadcasting guide.
PS4 Pro broadcasts can reach up to 1080p at 60 frames per second, depending on the service and available bandwidth. PlayStation says HDR is not supported for PS4 Pro broadcasting.
Upload a saved PS4 clip
- Press SHARE and select the saved video clip you want to upload.
- Choose YouTube as the destination.
- Add or edit the title, description, and privacy setting, then confirm the intended YouTube channel.
- Start the upload. Check Notifications on the console for upload progress.
Clip length, available privacy choices, upload time, and whether a clip can be shared may depend on the console, game, account, network, and YouTube limits. YouTube’s PlayStation viewing and sharing help describes direct clip uploads.
Connect YouTube to PS5
Open the app and sign in
- Open YouTube from the PS5 Media home screen. If it is not installed, find it in PlayStation Store and install it.
- Select Sign in and follow the method shown by the app.
- Confirm that the Google account and YouTube channel shown are the ones you intend to use.
Authentication screens can change, so use the instructions displayed in the official app rather than relying on a particular QR code or activation address.

Start a YouTube broadcast
- Start a supported game and press the controller’s Create button.
- Select Broadcast, then choose YouTube.
- If prompted, link or sign in to the YouTube account. Check that the correct channel is selected.
- Enter the broadcast details, such as the title and privacy setting.
- Set microphone, party-audio, camera, and overlay options as needed, then select Go Live.
PlayStation’s current PS5 route is through the Create button’s Broadcast card. Additional controls are under Settings → Captures and Broadcasts → Broadcasts. Options include video quality, microphone and party audio, camera settings, overlays, and chat-to-speech where supported. See PlayStation’s PS5 broadcast guide.
PS5 viewers see the game and supported camera feed, not every screen on the console. Non-game apps and some game scenes may be blocked or appear blank. Tell party members before including their voices in a public broadcast.
Upload a saved PS5 clip
- Press the Create button and select the saved video clip.
- Choose YouTube as the sharing destination.
- Set the title and privacy details, and confirm the correct channel before uploading.
- Follow the upload status in the console’s notifications or capture-sharing interface.
Uploading a recording shares an existing clip; it does not start a livestream. Availability and limits may vary by game, account, connection, and YouTube processing.
Pair a phone or tablet with YouTube on PlayStation
Pairing a phone for playback control is separate from linking YouTube for gameplay broadcasts. Open YouTube on the console and on your phone or tablet, then tap the Cast icon on the mobile app and select the PlayStation if it appears. The exact options can vary by app version and device state. YouTube also documents TV-code pairing for supported devices; use the option shown in the apps. See YouTube’s device-pairing help.
If the console does not appear, check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and that network isolation or a VPN is not blocking discovery. Restart YouTube on both devices, restart the console and phone, update their software, and try signing out and back in.

Sign out or unlink YouTube
These actions control different connections:
- Sign out of the viewing app: Open YouTube on the console, open the profile menu, and select Sign Out. This removes that app session.
- Unlink the PS4 broadcast account: Go to Settings → Account Management → Link with Other Services → YouTube, then choose Unlink Account.
On PS5, use the account-linking controls available in the console’s account settings or the YouTube broadcast flow; labels may vary by system software. If you are selling or cannot access the console, review your Google account’s connected devices or security settings and remove access for the console there. Google’s menu wording can change.

The YouTube app is missing
Check PlayStation Store for YouTube on that console and in your region. Confirm the console is online, then restart it and check for system software updates. Availability can vary by model and region; YouTube lists supported devices in its device support information.
Sign-in repeats, or the wrong subscriptions appear
This is often an account-selection issue. Sign out of YouTube on the console, then sign in with the exact Google account tied to the desired profile. If the authentication browser or phone offers several accounts, remove confusion by signing out of unused accounts first. Confirm the channel before uploading or broadcasting. If the wrong channel remains linked for streaming, unlink it and repeat the broadcast-account linking process.
The console says the account is already linked
First confirm you are using the intended PSN user and Google account. Then check the network, close and reopen YouTube, restart the console, and install available app and system updates. Sign out and back in; if the issue persists, unlink and relink the broadcast account or start linking from the PS5 Broadcast flow. Check PlayStation and YouTube service status if the problem began suddenly. If viewing works but broadcasting does not, verify YouTube live-stream eligibility separately.
The broadcast stays on “Preparing”
Check whether YouTube live streaming is activated for the selected channel and whether it has any restriction. Complete requested account verification or two-step authentication; PlayStation notes that some streaming services may require two-factor authentication. Confirm the correct channel is linked, check service status, and make sure the internet connection has stable upload capacity. If the app works but only the broadcast fails, focus first on YouTube-side eligibility and account restrictions.

There is no microphone or party audio
In the broadcast settings, enable microphone audio and, if wanted, party audio. Confirm the PS5 is using the intended headset or controller microphone and check the microphone mute state. Party members may need to allow their voices to be shared. On PS4, review the broadcast audio options and the connected microphone. Camera use is optional; it does not replace checking the microphone source.
The stream shows a black screen or hides a scene
On PS5, viewers may not see non-game apps or scenes the game blocks from capture. Return to the game and check whether the scene is protected. If using a capture card, check HDCP and the HDMI signal path; copy-protection settings and incompatible connections can prevent capture. Direct console broadcasting does not require a capture card.
The stream disconnects or looks poor
Use a stable internet connection, preferably wired if Wi-Fi is inconsistent, and reduce broadcast quality if the connection cannot sustain it. Pause other heavy network activity and test the connection again. A connection’s download speed alone does not guarantee adequate upload stability.
4K playback is not 4K livestreaming
PlayStation states that 4K YouTube playback is supported on PS5 and PS4 Pro with a compatible 4K/UHD display and a steady internet connection of at least 25 Mbps. This is a playback condition, not a promise of 4K gameplay broadcasting. PS4 Pro’s published broadcast ceiling is up to 1080p/60fps, depending on service and bandwidth, and HDR is not supported for its broadcasts. PS5 broadcast quality depends on the service and settings; do not assume it will stream in 4K. See PlayStation’s YouTube playback guidance and its console-specific broadcast pages.
YouTube and YouTube TV are different
YouTube is the video platform used for regular videos, uploads, and gameplay streams. YouTube TV is a separate subscription service for live television; it is not required to watch ordinary YouTube or broadcast gameplay. Check YouTube TV’s current supported-device and plan information for your region before subscribing, since availability and pricing change: YouTube TV devices and plans.
Do you need a camera or capture card?
No purchase is needed for basic direct gameplay broadcasting from PS4 or PS5. Add a compatible PlayStation camera only if you want a facecam. Consider a capture card and PC-based software only if you want production tools such as custom overlays, more advanced audio/video routing, multiple sources, or separate PC recording. Those setups add equipment and configuration; they are unnecessary just to go live from the console.
