To create a bhajan livestream with lyrics in OBS, put a looping bhajan file or playlist in a scene, add an OBS Text Source above it, then connect OBS to YouTube with the stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room. The scene can run continuously, but YouTube’s archive and DVR features have a 12-hour caveat, so plan managed stream sessions and keep a local recording if you need a complete archive.
Before you build the OBS scene
Prepare the bhajan audio or video and the lyric text you want viewers to see. Check that you have the necessary rights to stream both the specific recording and the underlying composition. A devotional song, traditional melody, or publicly available upload is not automatically cleared for every recording or livestream use. YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility for necessary worldwide rights, including music licensing rights, on the creator. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and its guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
If a rights holder has licensed material for your channel but Content ID still identifies it, ask the rights holder whether they can allowlist your channel. YouTube warns that detection of third-party content can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination of a live stream; permission alone may not prevent an automated interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
Build the scene: one bhajan or a playlist
For one repeating file
- In OBS, select or create a scene, then use the Sources panel’s add button to add a Media Source.
- Select the local audio or video file you want to play. Enable Loop in the source properties so it starts again when it ends.
- Add a background image or color only if the media itself does not provide the visual you want. Check the audio meters and preview playback before continuing.
For multiple bhajans
- Add a VLC Video source and select the files for the playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist in the source settings.
- Install VLC if OBS cannot use the source. OBS documents that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
OBS’s Media Sources guide explains the available media-source options. A single Media Source is the simpler choice for one file; VLC Video is the playlist route.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Add lyrics and place them over the video
- In the scene’s Sources panel, add a Text source. OBS labels the implementation by operating system: Text (GDI+) on Windows and Text (FreeType 2) on macOS and Linux.
- Enter the lyrics in the source, or enable Read from file and point OBS to a text file. A file is useful when you maintain the text separately, but OBS does not automatically synchronize changing lyrics to the bhajan.
- Choose a readable font size, color, and alignment. Use an outline or background treatment if the text becomes hard to read over changing imagery. Adjust the source’s custom extents if you need a defined text area.
- In the Sources list, move the lyrics above the media or background source. OBS draws higher-listed sources over lower-listed ones.
- Resize and position the text, then inspect the preview at the intended viewing size. Check that lyrics remain legible against every part of the image and do not cover important visuals.
See OBS’s Text Sources guide for text-source controls and the Sources guide for layer ordering.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream using YouTube’s encoder setup workflow.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key as a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start sending the feed from OBS, then inspect YouTube’s preview. Confirm the bhajan audio is present, lyrics are readable, and the right scene is being sent before you start the live broadcast.
- After going live, check the channel and watch pages, including on a mobile device. Monitor audio and video quality and confirm that any local recording file is growing. YouTube recommends monitoring and, where a backup encoder is available, testing failover; this is operational guidance, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
Plan for a 24/7 channel, not one endless session
“24/7” describes the channel’s intended availability, not a promise that a single OBS session will stay connected or produce a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says a stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR—viewers’ ability to pause or rewind—may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams and DVR on live streams.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Set up a session handoff or restart plan rather than assuming one uninterrupted stream will create a full archive. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe an ideal restart interval or an automatic OBS restart configuration.
- Enable local recording in OBS if you need a copy of the complete program. Check that the recording destination has enough free storage and that the file is actually growing while live.
- Monitor the stream and be prepared to reconnect if OBS, the computer, power, or internet connection fails. YouTube’s live-stream tips cover preview checks, monitoring, and encoder failover considerations: YouTube live streaming tips.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Lyrics are hidden behind the bhajan video | The Text Source is below the media source in the Sources list. | Move the lyric source above the media source, then check its position and visibility in the preview. |
| Lyrics appear on screen but do not change with the song | The text is static; OBS’s Text Source does not provide automatic lyric synchronization. | Update the text deliberately for the current section, or use a workflow that changes the text file as the song progresses. Test the update method before broadcasting. |
| A playlist source is missing or will not play | VLC may not be installed, or its architecture may not match OBS. | Install VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC. Reopen OBS and inspect the VLC Video source settings. |
| YouTube does not receive the OBS feed | The stream URL or key may be wrong, or the wrong scheduled stream may be selected. | Copy the server URL and key again from the intended Live Control Room stream. Keep the key private and confirm YouTube receives a preview. |
| The live stream is interrupted after music identification | YouTube may have detected third-party material through its live copyright systems. | Verify rights for the exact recording and composition. If licensed, contact the rights holder about allowlisting your channel through Content ID. |
| The replay is missing or viewers cannot rewind | The stream may have exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive or DVR threshold. | Use planned session turnover for future broadcasts and keep a local recording when a complete copy matters. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the channel to keep playing without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded bhajan videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is a different workflow from building an OBS scene: StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and does not stream from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay powered on at home; playback runs from the cloud.
- Your uploaded file streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required; one free day is available per account.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start with the free StreamNeo trial.
