YouTube does not provide a native switch that turns a playlist into a continuous 24/7 live stream. First verify the channel, prepare lessons you have rights to use, then test the feed and its recovery before making it public.
Before you start: check eligibility and rights
Confirm live streaming is enabled
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Initial activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. These conditions are described in YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Review every lesson asset
Make sure you have the necessary rights for the recorded lessons and all included music, images, clips, slides, and other materials. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can replace, interrupt, or terminate a stream. Even a license may not prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Resolve that with the rights holder before launch; owning or licensing a file is not the same as being immune to automated live-stream enforcement.
Prepare a lesson sequence that works as a live channel
Build the playlist deliberately
Arrange lessons in an order that makes sense for someone joining at any time. Add clear titles and, where useful, short transitions or a slate that tells viewers what lesson is playing and where to find the full lesson. Check that audio levels are consistent and that the video and audio remain usable when viewed on a phone as well as a larger screen.

The playlist and looping behavior come from the encoder or service you choose, not a YouTube-native 24/7 loop control. Verify that the selected workflow can repeat the sequence continuously and handles the transition from the last lesson back to the first without stopping the outgoing feed.
Keep lessons accessible outside the live feed
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not give the same assurance for a 24-hour stream, so do not rely on one continuous broadcast archive as your lesson library. Keep the original recordings and publish individual lessons or maintain another stable index for students who need to find a specific topic.

Choose how to keep the stream running

For a local encoder, make sure you understand which application or playlist tool is responsible for repeating the lessons and what happens if the computer restarts. For any route, identify who monitors the output, how a dropped connection is recovered, and whether you can verify that the lessons are still playing. Create the YouTube Live stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream. Complete the stream details and audience settings for the channel.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. YouTube provides these in the Live Control Room for the encoder connection. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, share it in a screenshot, or put it in public notes. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder or service. Use the server URL and key exactly as shown. Choose the appropriate stream protocol supported by your setup; a basic RTMP(S) workflow does not require HLS.
- Set the lesson playlist to loop. Confirm the sequence starts and repeats as intended. If the workflow has scheduling, check start time and time zone. Do not assume that creating a YouTube live event itself will make prerecorded lessons loop.
- Run an unlisted test before launch. Start the encoder, open the viewer-facing watch page, and check picture, audio, lesson changes, and stream status. Confirm the test is unlisted rather than public if you are not ready for viewers.
- Make the event public or start the scheduled broadcast. Keep the Live Control Room and the encoder’s status available during launch so you can catch a failed connection or incorrect source promptly.
Plan bandwidth, monitoring, and recovery
Leave upload headroom
YouTube recommends upload capacity 20% above the total stream bitrate. If the encoder sends a primary stream and a backup stream for failover, include both bitrates in the total before adding that 20% margin. For example, if the configured outputs together use 10 Mbps, the connection should have at least 12 Mbps of reliable upload capacity for this guidance. Measure the connection under realistic household or studio use, not only when other devices are idle.

Test the whole failure path
- Watch the stream from a separate device and confirm the picture and audio remain present through several lesson transitions.
- Check that a local recording is being written and growing if your chosen workflow offers one.
- If you have configured failover, deliberately test it before launch and confirm that the backup feed takes over as expected.
- Decide who will respond to a silent feed, frozen image, encoder exit, or network outage. A stream is not meaningfully monitored just because its status page is open.

The event will not start
Check that live streaming is activated for the channel, that the stream has been created in Live Control Room, and that the encoder has the matching URL and key. If you exposed the key, reset it and update the encoder rather than continuing with a compromised credential.

The feed drops or keeps disconnecting
Check the actual upload capacity against the combined stream bitrate, including any backup output, and retain YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Look for competing network traffic, encoder crashes, and power interruptions. Test failover rather than assuming it works; with a local setup, the computer and its connection are also possible failure points.
The stream is live but viewers hear no audio or see the wrong lesson
Inspect the encoder’s selected source and audio meters, then confirm the public-facing watch page on a separate device. Review the playlist order and loop behavior in the tool that controls playback. A successful connection to YouTube does not prove that the intended lessons or sound are actually being sent.

YouTube interrupts or terminates the feed
Review the stream status and any YouTube notice, then identify the matched material. Confirm rights for the specific music, image, clip, or other asset and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where appropriate. Do not assume a license alone prevents a live interruption.
The 24-hour broadcast is not available as a complete archive
YouTube’s stated automatic-archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guarantee for a 24-hour stream. Use the original lesson files and publish individual videos or another lesson index for reliable on-demand access.
What YouTube’s equipment guidance means
YouTube Help’s “YouTube live streaming tips” says: “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” That is a reason not to buy specialized hardware automatically, not a guarantee that basic equipment or a home connection can sustain an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. Choose equipment and delivery around the continuity your channel needs.
