You can run a 24/7 Tamil indie music program on YouTube with an encoder such as OBS, or use a hosted playout service. Either way, you need a continuous audio program, a visual output, a verified channel with live access, and permission for every track and other copyrighted element you broadcast. With a local encoder, your computer, power and internet connection must keep working; hosted playout can run without your computer staying on.
Before you build the stream
Confirm YouTube live access
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours, so check access in YouTube Studio before preparing a launch.
For a continuous program assembled from external audio and video, use an encoder broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. The labels and layout in Studio and encoder software can change, so follow the current instructions shown in your account.
Clear the music and visuals
Make an inventory of the recordings, compositions, visuals and any other material in the program. Confirm that your agreements cover the intended use on YouTube, the relevant territories, continuous broadcasting, and any archive or replay. Keep written records of the permission and its scope. The rights needed depend on the tracks and agreements involved; being an independent artist, having permission from one contributor, or describing a track as “copyright-free” does not by itself establish that every right is cleared.

YouTube’s guidance for artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream. That guidance does not establish that a label or distributor controls every right for every track. If the applicable rights or territories are unclear, check the specific agreements and seek qualified local advice.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A licensed stream may still be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the relevant rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights owner, label or distributor whether allowlisting is needed and, if so, arrange it before going live.

If YouTube detects third-party material, it may replace the program with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt or terminate the stream, or impose consequences associated with a strike. A Content ID claim can also be made after the stream ends if it has been archived.
Set up a continuous stream with OBS
This approach gives you control of the local playback and visual output, but the stream depends on a working computer, power and internet connection for as long as it runs. Plan who will check playback and stream health and what they will do if the computer, connection or encoder stops.

- Prepare the program. Assemble the tracks and visual material you have cleared for the intended broadcast. Choose a playback setup that can repeat the program continuously, and check that both the audio and visual output continue when the sequence reaches its end. The exact source and playlist controls depend on the encoder software and version.
- Start an encoder broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a broadcast using the encoder workflow. Set the broadcast details and visibility appropriate to your launch. The studio provides the connection information for the encoder.
- Connect OBS. Copy the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming connection settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, share it in screenshots, or put it in a public document. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key.
- Choose settings your connection can sustain. Configure the encoder’s output quality using YouTube’s current encoder guidance, and choose a resolution and quality that your actual upload connection can reliably maintain. There is no universally safe bitrate for every connection; test yours rather than selecting the highest setting by default.
- Test before announcing the station. Start a private or otherwise limited test, check that the broadcast appears in Studio, and listen and watch for clean audio, a stable visual, uninterrupted playback and stream-health warnings. Test the connection under the conditions in which you intend to operate, then correct any problems before promoting the public stream.
- Launch and monitor. Start the broadcast in OBS and confirm that Studio reports a healthy incoming stream. Keep a plan for monitoring playback and responding to failures, including power loss, an internet interruption, encoder stoppage, or an audio playlist that reaches its end without restarting.
Choose how the finished broadcast is handled
Decide whether viewers should be able to replay the broadcast after it ends. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a 24/7 broadcast will be retained as one uninterrupted recording. For a long-running station, investigate the current Studio workflow for stream segmentation and archive policy, and make sure your permissions cover any archive or replay you intend to offer.
Local encoder or hosted playout?
These are different operating models, not guarantees of a particular uptime. The local method requires you to maintain the equipment and connection; a hosted service runs playout in the cloud. For either model, you remain responsible for permissions, stream-key security, checking that the program is working, and deciding what happens to archives.

Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live broadcast: Check that the channel is verified, that live streaming is enabled, and that there are no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Initial activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Studio does not receive the encoder stream: Check that OBS has the current server URL and stream key from the correct Live Control Room broadcast. Keep the key private; replace it if exposed.
- The stream becomes unstable: Lower the chosen output quality until it is sustainable on the actual upload connection, then test again and monitor stream health. YouTube recommends a quality the connection can reliably maintain.
- The music is interrupted or replaced: YouTube may have detected third-party material. Review the rights for the material and ask the rights owner whether the channel needs a Content ID allowlist. A licence does not necessarily prevent interruption if allowlisting is required.
- The program stops or goes silent: Check the computer, power, internet, encoder and playback sequence. Verify that the playlist or media source repeats as intended, and test the complete playback cycle rather than only its opening.
- You cannot find a complete archive: Do not assume a long-running broadcast will remain as one recording. YouTube’s stated automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; check the current Studio workflow for longer broadcasts and segmentation.
