You can turn podcast MP3s into a 24/7 YouTube live stream by pairing the audio with a visual, sending that audio-video output through an encoder, and connecting the encoder to your YouTube stream URL and key. A local encoder requires a computer, power and internet connection to stay available; a cloud service can keep the prerecorded stream running without your home setup. Plan separately for copyright, interruptions and archives: a continuous broadcast is not a guarantee of a complete 24/7 YouTube recording.
What you need before going live
- Podcast audio: the MP3 episodes you have the right to broadcast and archive.
- A visual track: show artwork, a branded animation or other video you are permitted to use. YouTube receives a live audio-video stream, not an MP3 by itself.
- An encoder: software on a computer, standalone encoder hardware, or a cloud-hosted service for prerecorded streams. YouTube documents these encoder categories in its encoder setup guidance.
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming: first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- A reliable connection and continuity plan: for a local setup, the device, network and encoder process need to remain available.
A public podcast feed or an episode already published elsewhere does not, by itself, prove you have the rights to rebroadcast it on YouTube. Check rights for music, clips, compositions and guest contributions as well as the episode recording.
Choose where the stream will run
| Consideration | Local encoder | Cloud-hosted prerecorded stream |
|---|---|---|
| Where playback and encoding run | Your computer or encoder device | The provider’s cloud service |
| What must stay available | Local device, power, internet and encoder process | The provider’s service and configured source or playlist |
| Setup control | Direct control over the encoder and local media | Provider-specific controls and supported inputs |
| Dedicated local hardware | A computer can run encoder software; a minimum specification is not established here | May avoid buying a dedicated streaming computer |
| What to verify | That the device and connection can sustain the chosen output | Current price, supported playlists and formats, recovery behavior, monitoring, and access to YouTube ingest settings |
YouTube’s encoder help identifies a cloud-based category for 24/7 prerecorded streaming and names Gyre as an example, but does not establish current provider prices, uptime or feature details. The table is a practical distinction, not a claim that one route is universally more reliable.
Prepare the episodes and visual
- Gather the MP3s in the order you want them to play. Decide whether the stream will repeat one episode, cycle through a playlist, or use a planned sequence.
- Choose a visual that can remain on screen while the episodes play: for example, a show card, a branded animation or permitted video. Confirm you have rights to every image, animation and video element.
- Check the complete audio program, including music beds, intros, excerpts and guest material. Confirm your rights cover live broadcast and any archive YouTube creates.
- Make a local recording if you need your own copy of the broadcast. Do not treat YouTube’s live archive as the only backup.
Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Enable live streaming if needed. In YouTube, complete live-stream activation for the channel. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule a stream. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast. Use its stream settings to get the stream URL and stream key; the live stream settings guide explains the controls.
- Protect the stream key. Enter the stream URL and key only in the encoder you control. Treat the key like an account credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube’s stream settings before continuing.
- Configure the encoder’s output. Add the podcast audio and visual so the encoder sends a combined audio-video feed. Choose RTMPS when available, then use the stream URL and key from Live Control Room.
- Check the incoming preview. Start sending a test feed and inspect the preview and stream health in Live Control Room. Confirm that the audio is audible, the visual is present, and the expected playback order works before you make the broadcast public.
- Start the broadcast. Start the stream in the encoder and use the Live Control Room controls as needed to start or manage the YouTube broadcast.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers connecting an encoder. The exact buttons and configuration fields differ by encoder, so use that encoder’s current documentation for its media and playlist controls.

Set audio and video quality
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Its encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio, for RTMP/RTMPS. Not every encoder supports every listed format.
| Setting | YouTube guidance | Practical application |
|---|---|---|
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS recommended | Select RTMPS in the encoder if it is supported. |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1 listed | Choose a codec supported by both your encoder and workflow. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 listed | Check that the encoder is sending the podcast audio, not just the visual track. |
| Rate control | Constant bitrate (CBR) recommended | Use CBR where the encoder offers it. |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds | Set two seconds if available. |
| Stereo audio sample rate | 44.1 kHz recommended | Use 44.1 kHz for stereo audio when configuring the encoder output. |
| Stereo audio bitrate | 128 Kbps recommended | Set 128 Kbps for stereo audio if supported. |
| Video resolution and bitrate | Depends on output and connection | Choose a combination the available upload connection can sustain, then test and monitor stream health. |
The MP3 file’s source settings do not automatically determine the encoder’s live output settings. Test representative episodes, including the loudest material and any visual motion, before relying on the stream continuously.

Keep the stream running and preserve an archive
A 24/7 broadcast and a complete 24/7 YouTube archive are different goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive guidance.
- If a complete YouTube archive matters, plan separate sessions shorter than 12 hours rather than relying on one uninterrupted stream to be captured.
- Keep a local recording as a backup, as YouTube recommends. Confirm where it is saved and that storage is sufficient for the recording duration.
- For a local encoder, plan for power, network, device and encoder interruptions. The setup must be capable of continuous playback, and you need a way to recover after an interruption.
- For a hosted route, check the provider’s current behavior for reconnection, monitoring and source playback rather than assuming a particular recovery guarantee.
These are operational safeguards, not a promise that YouTube or an encoder will remain uninterrupted.

Copyright and monetization limits
Rights apply to every part of the program
YouTube’s Livestream terms require creators to have the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music licensing rights. A podcast guest’s permission to appear, or a license for a song in another context, may not establish permission for a continuous YouTube rebroadcast. Verify the actual scope of each license with the relevant rights holder.
Live copyright scans can interrupt the feed
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies such material, it may show a placeholder and warn you; unresolved issues can lead to interruption or termination. For licensed third-party content, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Permission does not guarantee monetization
YouTube applies monetization policies to live streams. Its channel monetization policies require original, authentic content for monetization and can make repetitive or mass-produced material ineligible under the inauthentic-content policy. Reused-content review is separate from copyright review: having permission to rebroadcast a catalog does not by itself establish YouTube Partner Program eligibility. Do not budget on the assumption that a continuous replay of existing episodes will be monetized.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No incoming signal in Live Control Room | Incorrect stream URL or key, wrong ingest selection, or encoder not sending | Compare the encoder’s URL and key with the current values in Live Control Room; confirm the encoder is actively sending. |
| Stream shows video but no podcast audio | Audio track not routed to the encoder output or unsupported output configuration | Check the encoder’s audio source and output meters; test with a representative MP3 and confirm an audio codec supported by YouTube’s guidance. |
| Choppy or unstable stream | Selected output may exceed what the upload connection can sustain | Lower the output resolution or video bitrate, then test and monitor stream health before restoring the stream. |
| Broadcast stops after a copyright alert | YouTube identified third-party material | Review the affected content and rights. If licensed, contact the rights holder about adding the channel to its Content ID allowlist. |
| Expected full-day archive is missing or incomplete | A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured | Use shorter sessions and retain a local recording for future broadcasts. |
| First stream cannot be activated immediately | First-time live-stream activation is still processing | Allow up to 24 hours for activation, as YouTube’s setup guidance specifies. |
