You can build a 24/7 YouTube radio stream by organizing tracks in MusicBee, feeding the playlist’s media files into OBS Studio’s VLC Video source, and sending OBS’s encoded output to YouTube Live. MusicBee manages and plays your library; OBS is the encoder that sends the live video signal. One detail needs a test before you rely on it: the official documentation reviewed does not confirm that a MusicBee playlist file can be loaded directly into OBS/VLC, so verify the playlist format and file paths first.
What you need—and what each app does
- MusicBee: organize and check the local music files and playlist. Its official site lists playlist syncing among its capabilities, but does not establish a specific export format for this OBS workflow.
- OBS Studio: create the visual scene, play a media playlist through its VLC Video source, and encode the stream. OBS is listed in YouTube’s encoder guide.
- VLC: the VLC Video source in OBS requires VLC to be installed. On 64-bit OBS, OBS documentation says to install 64-bit VLC. The source can play a playlist and loop it; playlist looping is on by default and shuffle is off by default. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
- YouTube Live: supplies the server URL and stream key OBS needs to connect.
This setup sends audio with a visual element, such as artwork you are permitted to use. It is not a camera broadcast, and MusicBee alone does not encode or send a YouTube live stream.
Prepare and verify the MusicBee playlist
- In MusicBee, assemble the playlist and check that every track plays correctly. Keep the referenced audio files accessible on the computer that will run OBS; a playlist that points to missing or moved files cannot provide continuous playback.
- Determine how your current MusicBee version saves or exports the playlist. Do not assume a particular menu label or that the playlist file itself is compatible with OBS/VLC: the official MusicBee and OBS pages reviewed do not settle that interoperability.
- Test the exported or saved playlist in OBS’s VLC Video source. Confirm that every entry loads, tracks advance, and the last item returns to the beginning. If OBS/VLC cannot read the MusicBee playlist file, use a playlist format it accepts and verify the resulting file paths before proceeding.
- Make sure the source media remains in the same locations for the duration of the broadcast. Moving, renaming, or disconnecting files or drives can break playback.
Build the looping scene in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC, matching VLC’s architecture to OBS; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- Create a scene in OBS and add a VLC Video source. Load the playlist you tested, then confirm Loop Playlist is enabled. Leave shuffle off if you want tracks to play in the playlist’s order; OBS documents shuffle as off by default.
- Add a visual element to the scene, such as a still image or permitted animation. Check that it remains visible while the audio source moves from one track to the next, and size it for the video layout you intend to stream.
- Listen through track transitions and check that the audio level is consistent and not clipping. Keep the scene and media source active during a test run long enough to confirm that the playlist loops as expected.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming on your YouTube channel if it is not already enabled. YouTube says first-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this ahead of the planned launch.
- In YouTube Studio, create or select a live stream and obtain the server URL and stream key. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream details. If configuring a custom connection, use the server URL and stream key provided by YouTube rather than a URL from another service.
- Start streaming from OBS. Watch the YouTube Studio preview and follow its current go-live flow. Check that the picture, audio, and playlist transitions are correct before directing viewers to the stream.
- Before calling the broadcast continuous, test what happens after a brief network interruption and after OBS is restarted. These are checks to perform on your setup, not guarantees of uninterrupted service.
Choose continuous playback, rights, and archiving deliberately
Music rights can interrupt a technically working stream
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can produce a warning or placeholder, interruption, or termination; a copyright strike can also terminate a stream. A personal music library or a consumer music subscription does not by itself establish permission to broadcast the tracks live.
If you have licensed third-party music, YouTube says the rights owner must add your channel to the Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption on that basis. This applies even if the stream is restricted to territories where you hold rights. Review YouTube’s current copyright guidance for live streams and secure the necessary live-broadcast rights before streaming.

A 24-hour stream is not a dependable complete VOD
YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends keeping a local recording backup; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single continuous 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a reliable way to create a complete YouTube replay. If an archive matters, plan a local recording and/or separate shorter broadcasts, and check the channel’s current YouTube Studio options. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
What can go wrong and how to diagnose it
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The VLC Video source is unavailable or will not load | VLC is missing or its architecture does not match OBS | Install VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS. |
| The playlist loads but tracks are missing | The playlist references files that are unavailable or a format OBS/VLC cannot use | Check the playlist file paths and test a compatible playlist in OBS. MusicBee-to-OBS playlist-file compatibility is not established by the official pages cited here. |
| Playback stops at the final track | Playlist looping is disabled or the source did not load the full list | Check the VLC Video source’s Loop Playlist setting and verify all entries; looping is on by default in OBS documentation. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Live streaming is not activated, or the connection details are wrong | Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, then verify the YouTube server URL and stream key in OBS. |
| The stream is interrupted after it starts | A network or encoder interruption, or a third-party-content match | Check OBS and YouTube Studio status, then review YouTube’s copyright notice and resolve rights issues. Do not assume a licensed track will be exempt from Content ID interruption without the rights owner’s allowlisting. |
| The full broadcast is absent from archives | The event exceeded YouTube’s stated archive threshold | Do not rely on a 24-hour event as a complete VOD; make a local recording and consider shorter broadcasts if replays are required. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the uploaded playlist to keep running without leaving a home PC on, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud option for looping uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream; and the first day is free with no card. The monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Your MusicBee tracks still need the rights required for a YouTube live broadcast, and you should verify that the playlist workflow fits your files. Start the free day.
