The key decisions are rights, how the stream will recover from interruptions, and whether you need a complete recording: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
1. Clear the rights to your rain audio, piano music, and visuals
Before building a playlist, confirm that you have permission to livestream every part of it and to keep any resulting archive. YouTube’s terms make the streamer responsible for necessary worldwide rights on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms.
- Use your own piano performances, or recordings whose license explicitly covers YouTube livestreaming and archiving.
- Check rain recordings and visuals too. Finding a file online or crediting its creator does not establish permission to broadcast it.
- Check the composition and the specific recording separately; rights, territories, monetization permissions, and archive permissions can differ.
- Do not assume that an old composition, a “royalty-free” label, or attribution alone clears every right you need. Check the license terms for the exact use.
2. Choose how to keep the program running
YouTube describes encoders as software or standalone hardware that prepare a feed for livestreaming, and also lists cloud services for 24/7 prerecorded video. Its listings are options, not endorsements or guarantees; the named tools are not made by YouTube. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
| Approach | What it means for a continuous channel | Trade-off to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | Playback and streaming depend on your computer, power, network, and encoder process. | You control the local setup, but an outage or stopped process can interrupt the broadcast unless you have a recovery plan. |
| Cloud streaming service | A service handles the stream from the cloud rather than relying on your home computer to stay on. | You depend on a separate service, its workflow, features, costs, and reliability. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a universal best service or compare performance for this channel. |
For a local software route, YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source streaming software. It also names cloud options such as Gyre and Upstream; evaluate their current terms and capabilities directly rather than treating YouTube’s list as an endorsement.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Enable YouTube livestreaming and create the event
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time livestream activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s livestreaming setup guidance.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and retrieve its stream URL and stream key.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Configure your encoder. Enter the stream destination and key, select the prepared audio and visual source, and start sending a preview feed.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm that the rain and piano are audible, the visual is correct, and the event is accessible from the channel or watch page and on mobile. YouTube recommends setting up ahead of time and monitoring audio and video; see YouTube’s streaming tips.
4. Plan for bandwidth, interruptions, and archives
Leave network headroom
Your upload connection needs to carry the stream reliably. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the stream bitrate. If you use primary and backup encoders at once, account for both feeds. Network interruptions can break the broadcast, so test from the connection and location you intend to use.
Decide how a dropped stream will recover
A 24/7 target needs an explicit recovery plan. Monitor the stream and decide how playback will resume after an encoder, computer, power, or network failure. If using a primary and backup encoder, YouTube recommends testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network, then checking that playback switches to the backup. A single-encoder setup does not provide automatic failover by itself. See YouTube’s guidance on stream reliability.

Do not rely on YouTube for one complete 24-hour replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. If a complete replay matters, record locally and consider using shorter stream sessions rather than assuming one continuous broadcast will produce a complete VOD. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
5. Make the channel original and set realistic monetization expectations
YouTube applies its channel monetization policy to livestreams. It says monetized content should be original and authentic, and should not be “mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative.” A recognizable program identity can help distinguish an ambience channel: for example, original performances, thoughtful curation, meaningful variation, intentional sound design, and visuals made for the channel. These choices do not guarantee monetization approval. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policy.

Eligible monetized livestreams may use pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads, but ads are not guaranteed to appear for every viewer. YouTube recommends automatic live mid-rolls and reported that creators who selected them saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that had not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. That is a platform-reported comparison, not a forecast for an individual channel. See YouTube’s live ad guidance.
6. Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Livestreaming is not available yet | The channel is not verified, has a recent live restriction, or first-time activation is still processing. | Check channel verification and restrictions; allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| The encoder cannot connect to YouTube | The stream URL or key may be incorrect, or the key may have been changed. | Copy the current destination and key from Live Control Room, enter them carefully, and keep the key private. |
| Playback stutters or drops | Insufficient upload capacity or an unstable connection can interrupt the feed. | Check the connection and bitrate, retain YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and test the connection under the actual setup. |
| There is no audio, or the wrong sound is playing | The encoder may be using the wrong source, muted track, or playlist item. | Listen to the preview before going live, then monitor the stream after it starts. |
| The stream stops and does not resume | A single encoder or local process may have failed without a recovery path. | Restart the encoder or source and verify the feed in Live Control Room. If continuity is essential, test a backup encoder and failover in advance. |
| The 24/7 broadcast has no complete archive | YouTube may not capture streams that exceed 12 hours. | Keep a local recording and consider shorter sessions if a complete replay is required. |
| Music triggers a rights claim or livestream restriction | The license may not cover the recording, livestream, territory, monetization, or archive use. | Review the rights for the exact track and use; replace material you cannot establish permission to stream and archive. |
