You can make a YouTube channel play stories continuously, but an unlisted playlist is not itself a documented 24/7 broadcast source. Make the playlist unlisted, create a separate live event in YouTube Studio, then send that event a continuous video feed from an encoder or compatible cloud service. Set the playlist, live event, and any resulting archive’s visibility separately—and plan for YouTube’s warning that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
What unlisted does—and does not—do
An unlisted playlist is a collection that people can view if they have its link. It is not private access control: anyone with the link can reshare it. YouTube’s documented live workflow uses an encoder to send a feed to a live event; it does not describe entering an unlisted playlist URL as a native live-stream input. A compatible third-party tool may offer playlist-based playback, but check that capability with the provider rather than assuming the playlist itself will broadcast.
Visibility is set separately for the playlist, its videos, the live event, and the archive. Unlisted videos generally do not appear in search or on your channel’s Videos tab, but link access remains possible; visibility can also be affected by whether a video is included in a public playlist. Check channel eligibility first
Before building a 24/7 setup, confirm that your channel can livestream. YouTube’s getting-started requirements include channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and a minimum age of 16. Requirements may be updated, so check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance for your account and region.

Prepare the story playlist
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Content → Playlists.
- Open the playlist’s details, set Visibility to Unlisted, and save.
- Review each video’s visibility and confirm that your intended viewers can access it. Unlisted videos can be viewed and shared by anyone with the link; unlisted does not mean restricted to named users.
- Copy the playlist link and share it only with the people you intend to reach. Do not place it in a public playlist if you do not want that context to expose it more broadly.
Create a separate YouTube live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one.
- Set the live event’s privacy independently of the playlist. Choose the audience setting that matches who should be able to watch the live broadcast; do not assume the playlist’s unlisted setting carries over.
- Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key from the event’s encoder setup.
- In your chosen encoder or compatible streaming service, enter the server URL and key, configure video and audio, and start sending the feed. YouTube’s instructions state: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and manage live stream settings.
Treat the stream key like a password: it authorizes an encoder to send video to your event. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the feed. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in the stream settings before continuing.
Choose how to play the stories continuously
Run an encoder on a computer you control
Use streaming software that can play your selected story videos in sequence and send a continuous feed to YouTube. The exact setup depends on the software, operating system, video files, and desired output quality, so there is no single reliable set of encoder clicks or bitrate values for every channel. Follow the encoder’s current YouTube configuration guidance and ensure the output fits your available upload bandwidth.

This route depends on the computer, playback software, power, and internet connection staying available. Plan who or what will notice a stopped feed and how playback and the encoder will restart after an interruption. YouTube’s streaming tips and live streaming tips cover testing, bandwidth, and monitoring; YouTube recommends leaving upload-bandwidth headroom rather than using all available capacity.
Use a cloud continuous-streaming service
A cloud service can handle continuous playback and delivery without requiring your home computer to remain on. YouTube’s encoder help page names Gyre as an example of a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. That mention does not establish that Gyre accepts an unlisted YouTube playlist directly; confirm supported inputs and current service details with the provider.

Test before leaving the stream unattended
- Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the event, then confirm the watch page opens as intended.
- Test playback on a phone as well as a computer, and listen for clear, continuous audio.
- Confirm that the video sequence advances correctly and that the feed does not stop at the end of a file or playlist.
- Check that upload bandwidth can sustain the encoder’s total bitrate with headroom, and keep an eye on the live preview for stalls or errors.
- Decide how you will detect a stopped feed, recover after an internet or power outage, and preserve an independent recording if the stories must be archived.
Keep a separate archive plan
Do not rely on a single uninterrupted 24-hour YouTube broadcast to produce a complete archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns: “If your live stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” A 24/7 stream therefore needs an independent recording plan if preserving every story matters. Record locally or use a service-side recording only after confirming that recording is supported, where files are stored, and that the resulting files are complete. Troubleshoot common failures
The live event is not receiving video
Check that the encoder has the correct server URL and stream key for the event you created, and that it is actively sending. If a key was exposed or replaced, update the encoder with the current key.

The feed stops or the story sequence stalls
On a local setup, inspect playback software, the encoder, computer power, and internet connection; confirm the playlist or file sequence can continue past the current video. Set up monitoring and a restart plan instead of assuming a local process will recover by itself. For a cloud service, check its status, playback inputs, and documented retry behavior.
The picture or audio breaks up
Compare the encoder’s total bitrate with available upload bandwidth and leave headroom. Test a lower output load if the connection cannot sustain the current feed, then check the preview and audio before relying on the stream.
Viewers cannot access the playlist or live stream
Check the playlist, each video, and the live event’s visibility separately. For unlisted material, confirm that viewers have the correct link; unlisted content is link-accessible, not private.
No complete archive appears after the broadcast
Check the event’s archive in YouTube Studio, but do not expect a stream exceeding 12 hours to be preserved as one complete YouTube archive. Use an independent recording plan for material that must be retained.
