To keep a true crime podcast playing continuously on YouTube Live, prepare a playlist of episodes and visuals you have streaming rights to, send it through an encoder using YouTube Studio’s stream URL and key, then preview and monitor it in Live Control Room. YouTube does not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation, and a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all. If preserving the full program matters, use shorter broadcast blocks and make a separate local recording.
Can you stream podcast episodes on YouTube 24/7?
You can send a prepared podcast program to YouTube Live through streaming software or a hardware encoder. The encoder plays your episodes and sends the resulting feed to YouTube; Live Control Room is where you preview and manage the broadcast. This is different from uploading episodes as ordinary videos.
Plan for interruptions rather than assuming YouTube will keep a broadcast running without a break. The official guidance describes the encoder workflow, but does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Test the playlist, the encoder’s restart behavior, and your method for recovering from a network or application failure before relying on the stream.

Clear every element in the program
Review the rights for every episode and every element viewers will hear or see: interviews, archival news audio, music, photographs, court recordings, clips, and artwork. Having a copy of a recording or having previously published a podcast does not by itself establish that you have permission to stream it on YouTube. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content and may be interrupted or terminated if copyrighted material remains. If you have a license for content that is detected, the rights owner may need to add your channel to an allowlist. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service and its copyright guidance for live streams before broadcasting.
Prepare a continuous podcast program
Arrange completed episodes in the order you want them played, and make sure the playback sequence can repeat or restart after it reaches the end. Pair the audio with episode art, a cover image, or other visuals you have permission to use. A static image can provide the visual feed for an audio-led program; it does not replace the need to clear the image rights.

If the broadcast is only prerecorded episodes, a live microphone, preamp, or audio interface is not required for playback. Add that equipment only if a host will speak live between episodes or provide commentary. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers professional hardware workflows, but it does not establish one required software setup for every podcast.
Set up the YouTube encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go Live, then use the Stream tab to create or schedule an encoder stream. Review YouTube’s current encoder setup steps in Studio, since interface details can change.
- Copy the stream URL and key. Enter these in your streaming software or hardware encoder as its YouTube destination. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or include it in on-screen graphics.
- Choose and configure the encoder. Load your prepared playback sequence and route its audio and visuals to the encoder. Software encoders are an option; YouTube also describes professional hardware encoders. The cited YouTube guidance does not prescribe a single bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for every program, so use the encoder’s current YouTube-compatible settings and test them with your actual source material.
- Schedule or prepare the broadcast. Set the stream details in Studio and check that the intended watch page and visibility are correct. If scheduling, allow time for the encoder to connect and for the preview to appear before the planned start.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm the episode audio is audible, the image is correct, and the stream appears in Live Control Room. Do not treat a successful encoder connection alone as proof that viewers can hear and see the intended program.
- Go live and monitor. Use Live Control Room to start the scheduled broadcast when the preview is ready. Watch stream health and check audio and video during the show. YouTube recommends testing in advance and monitoring the event; see its live-streaming tips.
- End or transition deliberately. For a finite broadcast, stop the encoder after ending the event on YouTube. For a continuous channel, test how the playlist and encoder behave at the end of a block and how you will restart or reconnect after an interruption. Do not assume that a transition will be seamless without testing it.
Will YouTube archive a 24/7 live stream?
Not reliably as one complete archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The consulted Help page does not state a publication year. If the entire program matters as a recording, schedule shorter blocks and record a local backup rather than relying on the YouTube archive. Troubleshoot common problems
- The encoder cannot connect: Check that you copied the current YouTube stream URL and key into the encoder and that the channel is eligible to stream. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in Studio and update the encoder.
- The preview is missing or has the wrong sound or image: Check the encoder’s selected playback source and audio routing, then verify the feed in Live Control Room before going live. Test using representative episode audio and visuals rather than an empty or unrelated source.
- The stream stops during a long run: Check the encoder, application, and network, then follow your tested reconnect procedure. YouTube’s cited documentation does not guarantee that a continuous broadcast will recover without interruption.
- The stream is interrupted over third-party material: Review the audio and visuals for detected copyrighted content. Confirm that your license covers live streaming and, when required, ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel.
- The archive is incomplete or absent: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Break the schedule into shorter broadcasts and use a local recording when retaining the full show is important.
