To make a gaming montage in Cross Clip, first create at least two clips. Then open My Clips, select the clips you want to combine, and choose Create Montage. Streamlabs’ guide says Free supports up to three clips per montage and Pro up to six; check the current limits and export options in Cross Clip before you start, because product features can change. Streamlabs’ guide was updated October 8, 2025.
What you need before making a Cross Clip montage
A montage is a separate step from editing an individual clip. You need to create at least two clips in Cross Clip first; you can then select those saved clips and assemble them. Cross Clip accepts Twitch or Kick clip URLs and uploaded video files, according to Streamlabs’ guide and its app listing. Use a video file or currently supported import route when your source is not available as a supported clip URL.
Do not rely on Cross Clip to download a YouTube video directly. Apple’s version history says that capability was removed in version 2.6.0 on September 17, 2024, following YouTube API changes. If you need footage from your own YouTube video, use a source file you are permitted to use and import it through an available route.
How to create gaming clips in Cross Clip
1. Import the source footage
Paste a supported Twitch or Kick clip URL, or upload a video file from your device. Streamlabs’ guide also describes using downloaded video; make sure you have the right to use the footage and obtain it through a permitted source. Upload limits differ by plan: the Cross Clip plans page lists up to 100MB on Free and 1GB on Pro. Confirm the limit shown in your account before preparing a large file.

2. Frame the gameplay and camera
In the editor, drag and resize the gameplay and face-camera regions so the important action stays visible in your chosen output canvas. Pick an output format suited to where you plan to post the clip. Check that a vertical crop, for example, has not cut off the HUD, captions, or the player’s camera.
3. Trim and arrange the clip
Use the timeline slider to choose the segment duration. Adjust the layout and layers as needed. Streamlabs says Cross Clip can use a blurred background when the source regions do not fill the output canvas. Preview the result with editor borders hidden so you can judge the exported framing rather than the editing guides.

4. Save each clip before building the montage
Finish and save each individual clip you want in the montage. Repeat the import, framing, and trimming steps until at least two clips appear in My Clips. Review each one for an abrupt start or end, obscured gameplay, or an unwanted gap before moving on to assembly.
How to combine clips in a Cross Clip montage
- Open My Clips in Cross Clip.
- Select the clips you want to include.
- Choose Create Montage.
- Choose the frame rate and output quality offered for your account, then start compilation.
- When compilation is complete, use the emailed download link or find the finished clip in the mobile app to download or share it.
Streamlabs’ guide lists a maximum of three clips per montage on Free and six on Pro. It describes choosing frame rate and quality before compilation. The app listing describes 720p and 1080p options, while Streamlabs’ guide and plans page describe 1080p/60fps export as a Pro feature. Since the listings vary by context and entitlements can change, check the settings shown to you in Cross Clip instead of assuming a particular resolution or frame rate is included.

Troubleshooting a Cross Clip montage
- Create Montage is unavailable: Make sure at least two individual clips have been created and saved, then select them from My Clips.
- You cannot add another clip: The documented montage caps are three clips on Free and six on Pro. Check your current plan’s limit and remove a selection if you have reached it.
- An upload is rejected: Check the file size against the plan limit shown in your account. The plans page lists 100MB for Free and 1GB for Pro, but confirm the current allowance in the product.
- The export option you expect is missing: Available output settings may depend on your plan or the current app version. Check Cross Clip’s displayed options; Pro is described as including 1080p/60fps, but do not assume that setting is available on Free.
- The montage framing looks wrong: Reopen the individual clip editor and adjust the gameplay and camera boxes, canvas format, or background treatment, then preview with borders hidden before compiling again.
- A YouTube source cannot be imported by URL: Direct YouTube downloading was removed in app version 2.6.0 on September 17, 2024, according to Apple’s version history. Use a permitted video file or another import route Cross Clip currently supports.
