You usually can’t permanently delete an owned avatar item from your Roblox inventory. You can unequip it so it no longer appears on your character, or hide your inventory from other players. Neither action removes ownership, and Roblox generally does not refund Robux for unwanted or accidental purchases.
Remove the item from your avatar
Unequipping is the way to stop wearing an item. The controls vary by platform, and the item remains in your inventory afterward.
In a browser
- Sign in to Roblox and open Avatar from the navigation menu.
- Select Recent or the category containing the item, such as Hats, Hair, Face, clothing, or accessories.
- Click the highlighted item icon to turn it off. If the avatar preview does not change, select Redraw beneath the preview.

On a phone or tablet
You can find the item through Inventory, or turn it off from avatar customization:

- Open the Roblox app, tap More at the bottom, then tap Inventory.
- Choose the relevant clothing or avatar category and tap the item. Roblox’s mobile inventory guide explains how to browse and open inventory items.
- Alternatively, tap Avatar or Me (the label depends on the interface rollout), open customization or the relevant category, select the item, and set Wear This to No.
Roblox says the Avatar tab is being renamed Me, with the change rolling out by region. Its mobile avatar customization guide describes the Wear This control.
On Xbox
- Go to Avatar and press Y to open the Avatar Editor.
- Select the item, then press A again to remove it from your avatar.
This changes what your avatar wears; it does not delete the item from your account. Roblox includes the Xbox controls in its item and refund guidance.

Hide your inventory from other players
If your concern is that other users can see the item, change inventory visibility instead. This setting applies to your inventory broadly, not just one item.
- Open your profile or account Settings.
- Go to Privacy & content restrictions, then Trading & inventory.
- Under Inventory visibility, choose No one.
Hiding inventory affects what other users can view; it does not delete items or remove your ownership. Roblox’s inventory visibility guide also says this setting does not prevent you from using the trading system.

Can you permanently delete an owned item?
Roblox’s current official inventory and avatar instructions explain how to view items, equip or unequip them, and hide inventory visibility. They do not document a general user-facing Delete or remove-ownership control for Marketplace avatar items. Clicking an inventory item opens its details; it is not a deletion workflow. So if you no longer want to wear an item, unequip it; if you do not want others to see your collection, adjust visibility.
Do not use browser scripts, extensions, or third-party “inventory deletion” services. A normal player does not need to share a password, authentication code, or Roblox session cookie to change avatar settings. Treat any service asking for those details as unsafe.

Can you get Robux back?
Unequipping an item does not refund Robux. Roblox says it generally cannot refund purchases, including accidental purchases and items you no longer use. If an item is defective or does not work as described, contact Roblox Support; provide your username, the item name and link, and a clear explanation. Contacting Support is not a guarantee of a refund. Roblox also notes that moderated or creator-removed items may not be eligible.
For an item bought inside an experience rather than the Avatar Marketplace, the support route may differ: Roblox says experience developers control the pricing and quality of their items, and directs players with experience-item problems to the relevant developer. If the item is missing or still appears
Check the right place
Look through all relevant inventory categories, including hats, hair, animations, faces, packages, and other avatar categories. Marketplace purchases appear in your account inventory; a purchase made within an experience may need to be checked in that experience or with its developer.
If it still looks equipped
- Toggle the item off again in Avatar or Me.
- Try the browser Avatar Editor if you were using the app.
- In the browser editor, use Redraw below the avatar preview.
- If the display is still stale, try restarting or updating the app, then signing out and back in. These are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes.
- If the item remains stuck or is malfunctioning, contact Roblox Support with the item details.
Roblox’s Avatar Item Availability guidance also notes that regional availability restrictions can make avatars appear as grey blocks. For your own avatar, Roblox recommends equipping or unequipping an item through the Avatar Editor, which may remove restricted content.
