One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo turn off Ubisoft’s in-game overlay on Steam Deck, switch to Desktop Mode, open Ubisoft Connect, then go to Settings → General and untick Enable in-game overlay for supported games. Close Connect and relaunch the game. You do not need a keyboard or dock to change the setting.
Turn off the Ubisoft overlay in Desktop Mode
- On your Steam Deck, switch to Desktop Mode.
- Open Ubisoft Connect. If it is not visible, launch the Ubisoft game once and then quit; Connect may remain open in the desktop system tray.
- In Ubisoft Connect, open the three-line menu and choose Settings.
- Open General, then untick Enable in-game overlay for supported games. Ubisoft Support identifies this checkbox as the control for disabling the overlay: Ubisoft Support.
- Close Ubisoft Connect and relaunch the game from Gaming Mode.
A keyboard, the on-screen keyboard, or a Steam Input mapping can help with desktop navigation, but none is required to change the setting. A Steam Deck guide also recommends disabling the Ubisoft overlay as a troubleshooting step: Steam Deck Gaming. That is a possible fix, not a guarantee that every game will run better.
What Shift + F2 does on Steam Deck
Ubisoft Support gives Shift + F2 as the default shortcut to open or close the Ubisoft Overlay: Ubisoft Support. On the Deck, you can send that shortcut with a connected keyboard, the on-screen keyboard, or a Steam Input mapping. Turning off the overlay in Connect disables the Ubisoft overlay feature, so its shortcut will no longer open it.
Ubisoft overlay and Steam overlay are different
Disabling Ubisoft Connect’s overlay does not disable Steam’s overlay. Valve documents Shift + Tab as Steam’s default overlay shortcut: Steam Support. Use the Ubisoft Connect setting for the Ubisoft overlay; change Steam’s own settings separately if you want to turn off Steam’s overlay.

What changes when you disable it
The setting disables Ubisoft’s in-game overlay for supported games, including access through its overlay shortcut. Ubisoft Support describes the checkbox as the way to disable the feature. The Steam overlay remains separate, and disabling Ubisoft’s overlay may help troubleshoot a game issue, but results can vary by game.
