In OBS, play the videos with a VLC Video source and show the Hindi title with a separate Text source. Set the Text source to read a text file, choose a font that displays your Devanagari characters, and layer it above the video. OBS documents these parts, but does not document automatic syncing between a VLC playlist’s current item and a separate Text source—so plan to update the title separately unless you use a tested tool or custom overlay.
Set up the playlist and Hindi title
- Add the playlist: In OBS, use the Sources dock to add a VLC Video source, then add your media files to its playlist. VLC must be installed for this source to appear. Its settings include playlist behavior such as looping and shuffling. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Add the title: Add a separate Text source. Enable its read-from-file option and select a file containing the Hindi title. OBS’s Text Sources guide covers choosing a font and configuring options such as alignment, antialiasing, outline, and wrapping or text extents, depending on the text-source implementation: OBS Text Sources.
- Save the file as UTF-8: This is a practical starting point for Hindi text. A legacy OBS help guide lists UTF-8 and UTF-16 for FreeType 2 text input and UTF-8 for GDI+ text input; those details may not match every current setup, so use the controls and behavior of your installed OBS version as the guide. - Choose and check a font: Select a font with Devanagari glyph coverage, then inspect real titles in the OBS preview. A file can contain readable text without the selected font rendering the characters correctly; the OBS font setting does not guarantee Hindi coverage or correct shaping.
- Layer and position the title: In the Sources list, place the Text source above the VLC Video source. Sources higher in the list appear above lower ones. Move and resize the title in the preview, and use available alignment, outline, background-opacity, and wrapping controls to keep it legible over the video. Keep the displayed title in sync
OBS documents VLC playlist playback and Text-source rendering as separate functions; the VLC Video guide does not document sending the current filename or title to a Text source. Treat the title as separately supplied and updated unless you have verified that an external tool or your own overlay handles synchronization.
A Browser Source can display a custom local HTML/CSS overlay, which gives you more layout flexibility, but it still needs a way to receive or determine the current title. The OBS Browser Source documentation does not describe a playlist-title feed. See the OBS Browser Source guide.
Does NowPlaylisting show Hindi video titles?
Not according to its OBS forum listing: it describes extracting artist and title metadata for audio on Windows, and says video plays without a metadata text overlay. That makes it a poor fit for displaying titles over a video playlist. The listing identifies Windows support, OBS Studio 30.0.0 or later, and an update date of March 20, 2026; plugin details can change. Check the NowPlaylisting listing for its current requirements.

Check Hindi text before going live
- Use several real Devanagari titles, including longer ones, rather than testing only Latin text.
- Check that the characters appear correctly in the OBS preview and remain readable against both bright and dark parts of the video.
- Confirm the title fits the intended position and does not wrap or clip unexpectedly.
- When the playlist moves to another video, update the title file yourself unless you have independently verified a synchronization method.
