How to install it
On PC
- Open the EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store.
- Search for “Battlefield REDSEC” and select the listing.
- Choose Download or Play Free and let the installation finish.
- Launch the game and sign in with an EA Account.
On PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
- Open PlayStation Store on PS5 or Microsoft Store on Xbox Series X|S.
- Search for “Battlefield REDSEC.”
- Open the official listing and choose Download or Play Free.
Do you need to own Battlefield 6?
No. EA describes REDSEC as a standalone free-to-play experience, and owning Battlefield 6 is not required. Battlefield 6 owners can access both experiences from one launcher. The Battlefield Team made the standalone access point explicit in its October 28, 2025 launch announcement.
Accounts, internet, and regional requirements
EA Help says REDSEC requires an EA Account and a persistent internet connection. Although the game is free-to-play, platform accounts or subscriptions may also apply. EA specifically says PlayStation Plus is required to download REDSEC components, including Battleground and Gauntlet, on PlayStation systems in Germany because of regional age restrictions and German content regulations. Requirements elsewhere are not fully enumerated in the reviewed EA guidance, so check the listing in your regional store.

What modes are included?
EA’s current free-to-play support overview lists Battle Royale, Ranked, and Portal. EA’s FAQ and launch announcement also describe Gauntlet. The available maps and modes can change with seasonal updates; check EA’s current REDSEC FAQ if a particular mode is the reason you are installing.

- On PC, check the game’s minimum system requirements.
- Repair or verify the game files through the store or launcher.
- Disable overlays such as Discord or GeForce Experience.
For connection or matchmaking errors, EA suggests restarting your router or trying a wired connection, checking EA server status, and reviewing your NAT settings.
