On Windows, Minecraft Bedrock Edition is listed as Minecraft for Windows. Install the official Minecraft Launcher from Minecraft.net or the Microsoft Store, sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the game (or has eligible Game Pass access), choose Minecraft for Windows, and select Play.
What you are downloading
Mojang no longer labels the Windows product “Bedrock Edition” in the launcher. Minecraft for Windows is the Bedrock Edition; Minecraft: Java Edition is the separate Java version. The official PC package includes both editions and the Minecraft Launcher: Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition for PC.
Older names such as “Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition” and “Minecraft Bedrock for Windows 10” are outdated. Do not search for a separate “Bedrock Edition for PC” installer.
Check your PC and account first

See the current Minecraft system requirements. Microsoft ended regular Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, even though Minecraft’s product page still lists Windows 10 version 19041.0 or later.

Microsoft account and license
- Use the Microsoft account that bought Minecraft, or an account with an active, eligible PC Game Pass entitlement.
- For a new purchase, buy the PC bundle rather than trying to buy Java and Bedrock separately.
- For installation and license checks, use the same account in Minecraft Launcher, Microsoft Store and the Xbox app.
Method 1: Download the Launcher from Minecraft.net
- Open the official Minecraft download page.
- Select Download Launcher at the top of the page.
- Run the downloaded installer and finish the Windows installation.
- Open Minecraft Launcher and sign in with your licensed Microsoft account.
- Select Minecraft for Windows in the game list.
- Select Play. The launcher downloads and installs Bedrock before starting it.
The launcher is the management application for downloading, updating and starting Minecraft; it is not the Bedrock game itself. The official download page also offers Microsoft Store installation: Minecraft download instructions for Windows.
Method 2: Install the Launcher through Microsoft Store
- Open Start, search for Microsoft Store, and open it.
- Search for Minecraft Launcher.
- Open the official listing and select Get or Install, depending on what your account and device show.
- Open the launcher after installation and sign in.
- Choose Minecraft for Windows, then select Play.
These labels follow Microsoft’s Store guidance and Minecraft’s Launcher installation instructions.

If you have not bought Minecraft
- Open the official Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC page or the Microsoft/Xbox Store listing.
- Select the PC edition or package shown, then choose Buy or Checkout.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account you intend to keep using.
- Complete payment.
- Install or open Minecraft Launcher, sign in with that same account, select Minecraft for Windows, and choose Play.
A PC purchase gives Windows users both Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock) and Minecraft: Java Edition; separate PC purchases are not required. See Minecraft’s PC purchase guidance.

If you already own Minecraft
- Install and open Minecraft Launcher.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
- Open the game list or library.
- Select Minecraft for Windows, then Play.
If it is missing, check your Microsoft account Order history. The purchase confirmation email and Order history can identify which account owns the license; Minecraft documents this in its sign-in troubleshooting guide.

Using Game Pass
The official Xbox Minecraft page advertises the PC package through Game Pass. Access requires an active, eligible subscription and the correct Microsoft account. If the subscription ends, access can revert to a trial or become unavailable until you renew Game Pass or purchase the game. Check the current offer at Xbox Minecraft.
Fix account and license problems
Keep all three Windows apps on the same account
A different account in Launcher, Microsoft Store or Xbox can cause error 0X803F8001, shown as “Minecraft Launcher license is currently not available for your account.”

- Launcher: open it, select the account or username in the upper-left, choose View all accounts, then select the licensed account or Switch account.
- Microsoft Store: select the account icon in the upper-right, sign out if necessary, and sign in with the licensed account.
- Xbox app: open Xbox from Start, select the upper-left account, sign out if necessary, and sign in with the licensed account.
Use Minecraft’s license-error instructions if the problem continues.
Reset the Microsoft Store cache for error 0X803F8001
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
WSReset. - Select OK or press Enter.
- Reopen Minecraft Launcher.
“Minecraft for Windows” is missing
- Confirm the Launcher account is the one that made the purchase.
- Confirm Microsoft Store and Xbox use that same account.
- Check Order history for the purchase.
- If using Game Pass, confirm the subscription is active.
- Restart the Launcher so it can refresh license information.
When the Launcher will not open or install
Stuck updating or refusing to open
- Open Start and search for Minecraft Launcher.
- Right-click it and select App Settings.
- Select Repair, then reopen the Launcher.
- If it still fails, return to App Settings and select Reset.
Reset can remove local app data. Back up important worlds before resetting or uninstalling, as advised in Minecraft’s Launcher crash guidance.

Installation stalls or stops
- Reset Microsoft Store.
- Use Windows’ Repair option for Minecraft Launcher.
- Uninstall and reinstall the Launcher if repair fails.
- Run the Gaming Services Repair Tool; Minecraft uses Xbox services for game updates.

Only a trial or demo appears
- Confirm Launcher uses the purchasing Microsoft account.
- For Game Pass, confirm the subscription is active.
- Repair Minecraft Launcher in Windows App Settings.
- Restart the Launcher.

Microsoft Store and Windows S mode cases
Microsoft Store is not visible
Search Start for Microsoft Store. Microsoft says the app may be absent when Windows uses a local account, an organization has disabled the Store, or the app was merely unpinned. Details are in Microsoft’s Store troubleshooting article.
Windows is in S mode
S mode restricts installations to Microsoft Store apps, so install Minecraft Launcher from the Store first. If a required component is unavailable there, leaving S mode is permanent; Microsoft says you cannot switch back. Read the S mode FAQ before changing it.

- Minecraft for Windows is Bedrock; Minecraft: Java Edition is the separate Java PC edition.
- Bedrock supports cross-play with Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms, subject to account and multiplayer requirements.
- Java and Bedrock use different game systems, and their worlds are not automatically interchangeable.
- Bedrock is not officially offered as the native PC edition for macOS or Linux. Official guidance identifies Bedrock for Windows and Java for macOS and Linux.
- Do not download an unofficial standalone installer, an Android APK, or a download labeled only Java Edition when you need Bedrock.
