Repentance+ is different: it has a separate mods folder, and older mods are not guaranteed to work there.
Download mods for standard Repentance on Steam
- Confirm you are playing the Steam version. The official Steam listing provides a Workshop for Repentance and states that Repentance requires The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth on Steam.
- Open the Repentance Workshop. Find the mod you want, then select its Subscribe option on Steam.
- Let Steam download the item. Once it has downloaded, launch the game and check the Mods menu if you do not see the mod taking effect.
The Steam listing establishes the Workshop as the standard Steam route; the exact menu labels and in-game checks can vary with the current Steam and game interface.
Repentance and Repentance+ do not share an interchangeable mod setup
First check which version you launch. Advice for standard Repentance on Steam should not be assumed to apply to Repentance+. The developers’ Repentance+ FAQ and notes describe a separate mods folder and changes to modding API and folder behavior. Compatibility depends on the specific mod and version.
The official FAQ warns: “If you copy Repentance or AB+ mods into this folder, you DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK as things are likely to break.” Do not treat copying an older mod into the Repentance+ folder as a reliable installation method.

Repentance+ online play requires disabling mods
For online play in Repentance+, the official FAQ instructs players to disable all mods and restart the game before going online. Modded play and online play therefore require different launch conditions.
Be cautious with manual Repentance+ workarounds
A Steam Community guide by Chamix, last updated in November 2024, describes an unofficial manual workaround. Its author warns that it is incompatible with online play and Repentogon. Because Repentance+ mod APIs and folder behavior can change, treat that guide as dated troubleshooting rather than universal or current installation advice: Chamix’s Repentance+ guide.

What about console or other PC versions?
The sources establish the Steam Workshop route, not a reliable general procedure for consoles or other PC storefronts. A community technical tutorial says console modding is limited to resource replacements and describes the modding API as requiring Afterbirth+ or Repentance; it is community documentation, not official platform policy: community modding tutorial. Do not assume Steam Workshop instructions transfer to another platform.
