To play Roblox on a Mac, go to Roblox.com, sign in, open an experience, and select its green Play button. Install Roblox Player when prompted, then select Play again to launch the experience. Roblox’s requirements page lists macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later as the minimum; older hardware may still struggle, and newly released or pre-release macOS versions may not be supported immediately.
Check whether your Mac is ready
Roblox calls its individual games “experiences.” You can use “game” in the everyday sense, but the experience page is where you start installation and launch play.
- macOS: Roblox lists macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later. This is a minimum, not a guarantee that every Mac will run every experience smoothly.
- Browser: Roblox’s Mac requirements page lists Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. Its general installation article also mentions Edge, so browser support is not presented identically across those pages. If one browser will not hand off to the player, try one of the three listed for Mac.
- Storage and internet: Roblox recommends at least 300 MB of system storage and a 4–8 Mbps connection for a single-use household; a household with several people online may need more bandwidth.
- Account and permission: Have a Roblox account and its correct credentials ready. A parent, school, employer, or Mac administrator may need to approve application installation on a managed device.
See Roblox’s computer hardware and operating-system requirements for its current guidance. The page gives broader processor, memory, and graphics guidance, but not a Mac-specific Apple-silicon-versus-Intel compatibility table.
Download and install Roblox Player
- Open Safari, Chrome, or Firefox and go to Roblox.com.
- Sign in to the account you intend to use, or create an account. Using an existing account preserves its avatar, friends, purchases, and progress.
- Open the experience you want to play and select the green Play button.
- When Roblox prompts you to install its player, follow the on-screen instructions. If the browser does not open the installer automatically, locate the downloaded
Roblox.dmgin Finder and open it. - Complete the installation, return to the experience page, and select Play again.
- If the browser asks which application should open a Roblox link, choose Roblox and confirm. If offered an option to remember the choice, select it to reduce repeat prompts.
The expected result is Roblox Player opening and loading the selected experience. The official setup flow begins on Roblox.com and uses the Play button; avoid unofficial “Roblox for Mac” download sites or modified installers. Roblox’s installation and play instructions cover the browser handoff.

Join an online experience or play with friends
After Player launches, Roblox tries to place you in an available server for that experience. Joining a friend or private server can also depend on privacy settings, age-based restrictions, the server owner’s permissions, and whether a server is available. A permission error in that situation usually points to account or server access rather than a failed Mac installation.
If you can sign in but cannot join, separate the problem from downloading: check the experience’s access rules and your account privacy settings. A successful installation does not unlock every experience or private server.

Firefox-specific fix for Roblox links
Use this only if Firefox does not know which application should open a Roblox player link:

- Choose Always use this application to open roblox-player links, then select Choose to open Finder.
- Press Command–Shift–G, enter
/Applications/Roblox.app/Contents/MacOS/Roblox.app, and press Return. - Select
Roblox.appand choose Open. - When Firefox asks which application to use, choose
Roblox.appand select Open Link.
This associates Roblox player links with the installed app so subsequent Play clicks can open it directly. Roblox documents this procedure in its Mac installation instructions.

Troubleshoot downloading, launching, or joining
Identify the symptom first: a Play button that does nothing is usually a browser handoff or installation issue; a player that opens but cannot join points more often to network, permissions, or server access; slow loading can involve hardware, network congestion, or server conditions.

Check parental controls on a family Mac
Roblox warns that Mac parental controls can interfere with server connections or an experience running. A parent can temporarily turn off the relevant control as a diagnostic test. If Roblox then works, add Roblox to the approved list using Apple’s parental-control guidance rather than leaving protections disabled. Roblox’s Mac parental-controls help page explains the potential conflict.

Check for a wider service or network problem
If the Mac and browser appear configured correctly, compare results on another network if practical and check whether Roblox is experiencing a service issue. Roblox’s computer-playing support section includes separate help for Mac troubleshooting, launchers, firewalls, and connection problems. On managed Macs or networks, ask the parent or administrator to approve the official app and access; do not work around restrictions with an unofficial download.

Reinstall Roblox on Mac
- Quit Roblox completely.
- Move the Roblox application to the Trash.
- Restart the Mac.
- Open a supported browser, sign in at Roblox.com, open an experience, and select Play.
- Install Roblox again when prompted. If installation files or browser data seem corrupted, clear the browser’s temporary files and cookies before repeating the setup.
Roblox says reinstalling can replace deleted or damaged files and recommends restarting before reinstalling. Its reinstall instructions also explain how to open Roblox.dmg manually if automatic setup fails. Avoid deleting unrelated system folders or using third-party cleaner utilities.

Set up a child’s account without weakening safeguards
Roblox’s parental controls can manage content maturity, screen time, spending limits, privacy, communication, and allowed or blocked experiences. Parents manage these settings through a parent account linked to the child’s account; Roblox explains the process in its parental-controls overview and account-linking instructions.
Account types, age checks, chat availability, and age bands can differ by region. Roblox describes Roblox Kids and Roblox Select in its account-type guidance; do not assume those details apply identically everywhere. Use the child’s correct date of birth and account, and do not bypass age or parental restrictions to get around a launch or access problem. The parental-controls FAQ covers available controls.
Roblox Player and Roblox Studio are different
Roblox Player is the application used to join experiences. You do not need Studio just to play. Roblox Studio is for creating experiences and has a separate installation workflow; Roblox’s official install page describes starting Studio through an experience menu’s Edit option.

Do not treat a virtual machine or cloud computer as a standard workaround for Mac installation problems. Roblox’s guidance for a particular access error says Roblox is unsupported on virtual machines or cloud-based computers in that context; it does not establish a universal rule for every configuration. See the relevant error guidance if that situation applies.
