You cannot download an official standalone PlayStation App for Windows or macOS. Sony currently offers the PlayStation App for compatible iPhone, iPad, Android phones, and Android tablets. On a PC, the right alternative depends on what you want to do: use the PlayStation website, install PS Remote Play, use PlayStation Accessories, or install the PlayStation Link PC Driver.
Is there a PlayStation App for PC?
No. Sony’s current official information says there is no native PlayStation App for Windows or Mac. The official app page directs users to the Apple App Store or Google Play, rather than a Windows or macOS download.
The PlayStation App is the mobile companion app for messaging, friends, account features, store browsing, and console-related functions. It is different from Sony’s desktop utilities:

Do not download unofficial “PlayStation App for PC” installers
Websites offering an “official” PlayStation App as an .exe, .msi, or unofficial emulator package are not providing Sony’s verified desktop app. Avoid entering your PlayStation credentials on third-party download pages and download Sony software only from playstation.com or the official Apple and Google app stores.

The Microsoft Store should not be treated as an official source for the PlayStation App unless Sony publishes a current listing. Sony’s verified availability information points to iOS and Android, not a Windows version.
Use PlayStation features in a PC browser
For account and social tasks, open Sony’s PlayStation account page in a browser and sign in. Depending on your region and the feature involved, you can access your profile, manage account settings, interact with your friends list, view trophies, and use certain PlayStation account features.
This is browser access, not the mobile PlayStation App. The interface and available functions are not necessarily identical, and the browser does not replace every app feature.
How to install PS Remote Play on Windows
Use PS Remote Play if you want to play or control a PS5 or PS4 from your PC. It streams the console to the computer; it does not install PlayStation console games natively on Windows.

Windows requirements
Sony lists these requirements for Remote Play:
- Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11
- Intel Core seventh-generation processor or later
- At least 2 GB of RAM
- At least 100 MB of available storage
- Display resolution of 1,024 × 768 or higher
- A PS5 or PS4 running current system software
- A high-speed internet connection
Sony lists 5 Mbps upload and download as the minimum connection speed. That is a baseline, not a guarantee of low latency or high image quality. A wired connection for the console is recommended where possible.
Setup steps
- Open Sony’s official PS Remote Play support page and choose the Windows download.
- Download and run the installer from PlayStation.com.
- On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play and enable Enable Remote Play.
- To wake the console from Rest Mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable the relevant network options.
- Launch PS Remote Play on the PC.
- Sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the console.
- Select PS5 or PS4 and follow the connection prompts.
- Connect a compatible controller to the PC, preferably by USB if Bluetooth pairing is unreliable.
Remote Play limitations
Remote Play requires the console to be available and configured correctly. Performance depends on both the console’s network connection and the PC’s connection, so Wi-Fi interference, upload congestion, downloads, and router distance can cause lag.
Some games and peripherals are unsupported, including titles requiring PlayStation VR or PS VR2 and games that must be streamed through a PS Plus Premium membership. In PS4 games streamed through Remote Play, Sony notes that haptic feedback is replaced by basic rumble and adaptive triggers are not supported. Controller features also vary by game and may require a wired connection.
How to install PlayStation Accessories on Windows
PlayStation Accessories is the correct Windows utility for updating compatible DualSense and DualSense Edge controller firmware. It is not a Windows version of the PlayStation App and does not provide messaging, store browsing, account management, or Remote Play.

Download it from Sony’s official PC accessories page, install it, then connect the compatible controller by USB and follow the on-screen firmware-update instructions. Sony’s current material confirms Windows availability, but system requirements can vary with the software version, so check the download page for the current requirements.
How to use the PlayStation Link PC Driver
The PlayStation Link PC Driver is for PlayStation Link audio hardware, including the PULSE Elite wireless headset, PULSE Explore wireless earbuds, and the PlayStation Link USB adapter.
It supports Windows 10 and Windows 11, requires at least 20 MB of storage, and requires a display resolution of 1,280 × 800 or higher.
- Insert the PlayStation Link USB adapter into an available USB port.
- Allow the driver to install automatically.
- Open the quick menu from the Windows notification area or system tray.
- Follow the prompts to configure the device or install firmware updates.
If installation does not start, remove and reinsert the adapter, restart the PC, run Windows Update manually, and restart again. Confirm that the adapter and headset or earbuds are paired. The Link driver is an audio-device utility, not a general PlayStation application.

Quick troubleshooting
Remote Play cannot find the console
- Confirm Remote Play is enabled on the PS5 or PS4.
- Sign in to the PC and console with the same PlayStation account.
- Update the console system software and Remote Play.
- Make sure the console is powered on or correctly configured for Rest Mode.
- Check that the connection meets Sony’s 5 Mbps minimum in both directions.
- Prefer Ethernet for the console.
- Restart the app, console, router, and PC if discovery still fails.
Remote Play is connected but laggy
Use Ethernet for the console first, stop large downloads and uploads on the network, move the PC closer to the router or use a wired connection, and reduce competing Wi-Fi traffic. Meeting 5 Mbps alone does not ensure a smooth session.
The controller does not work as expected
Connect it by USB, update compatible controller firmware with PlayStation Accessories, and check whether the particular game supports DualSense haptics or adaptive triggers. PC and Remote Play support varies by game.
What about an Android emulator?
An Android emulator may technically run some mobile applications, but it is not Sony’s supported PC distribution method. It can introduce compatibility, security, and account-login problems. If you specifically need the PlayStation App itself, use the official mobile app on a compatible iOS or Android device.
