Roblox does not document a one-click Avatar Editor command that downloads your assembled avatar as an OBJ, FBX, or Blender file. On a computer, the dependable approach is to load the avatar into Roblox Studio with a reputable importer or equivalent creator workflow, export the character model, and open it in Blender or another 3D application.
This can produce a useful local copy, but it is not guaranteed to reproduce every detail. Layered clothing, dynamic heads, facial animation, restricted assets, textures, and rigging may need repair or may not survive export.
What “download my avatar” can mean

Roblox describes an avatar as a combination of geometry, rigging, animations, clothing, and accessories rather than one indivisible mesh. See Roblox’s avatar overview.
What you need
- A Windows or Mac computer. The complete workflow is not practical on a phone, tablet, or Xbox.
- Roblox Studio.
- Blender, if you want to edit, pose, or render the result. Blender is free from blender.org.
- A current, reputable Studio avatar-importing plugin or equivalent creator tool.
- Your Roblox username or public user ID.
A legitimate public-avatar workflow should not require your password, .ROBLOSECURITY cookie, browser profile, HAR file, or session token.

Download the avatar through Roblox Studio
Roblox’s official documentation covers importing creator-made assets into Studio, not a universal “download my assembled avatar” command. Plugin names and Studio menu labels can change, so treat this as a plugin-neutral procedure.
- Install Studio from the official Creator page and open a new Baseplate project.
- Install an avatar-loading or character-importing plugin from the Creator Store. Check its creator, update date, reviews, permissions, and documentation before installing.
- Use the tool to load your username or user ID. Confirm that the displayed character is the avatar you intend to copy.
- In Explorer, select the complete character model, including its body parts and accessories.
- Use the model’s available export command, such as an Export Selection context-menu item where supported by your Studio version or plugin.
- Choose OBJ for a static mesh, or FBX when the workflow supports preserving a rig, skin weights, or animation data.
- Save the model and every texture or material file generated beside it. An OBJ commonly comes with an MTL file and separate image files rather than one self-contained file.
Roblox Studio’s documented Importer supports FBX, OBJ, and GLTF for bringing assets into Studio: Studio Importer documentation. That is primarily an import workflow, so an export option visible in your project can depend on the current Studio build or plugin.
Open the model in Blender
For an OBJ export
- In Blender, choose File → Import → Wavefront (.obj).
- Select the OBJ file and keep its MTL and image files in the same folder.
- If the model is gray, use File → External Data → Find Missing Files and point Blender to the texture folder.
- Check scale, orientation, object origins, and the positions of separate body parts before saving the project as a
.blendfile.
For an FBX export
- Choose File → Import → FBX (.fbx).
- Inspect the armature, skin weights, materials, and animation actions.
- Correct axis or scale problems if the character arrives too large, too small, rotated, or far from the origin.
FBX is not automatically a perfect rigged export: the source and exporter must actually include a compatible skeleton, weights, and animation data.

For Roblox creator workflows, the documented Blender settings include Path Mode: Copy, embedded textures, FBX Unit Scale, and disabled leaf bones. Gray or untextured model
- Texture images were not exported.
- Material paths point to the original Roblox location.
- A tool could not retrieve a protected or dynamically generated texture.
- Blender cannot find the image files.
Keep all exported files together, use Blender’s missing-file search, and reconnect image textures manually in the Shader Editor. Roblox also notes that textures may need to be added manually during import; see character import documentation.
Layered clothes float, clip, or vanish
Layered clothing uses cages and deformation behavior, not just a rigid mesh positioned over the body. A basic OBJ may lose the information needed to fit clothing correctly. Roblox’s Importer recognizes cage meshes, but ordinary avatar export tools do not necessarily preserve them. See Importer and Avatar Setup.

The body arrives as many pieces
That can be normal. Roblox character bodies use a defined multi-part structure; the specification describes 15 separate body meshes and additional avatar components. Read the character-body specification before welding parts together.
Animations do not work
A static OBJ cannot provide a usable animated rig. Use an FBX-capable workflow that preserves the armature and weights. Roblox emotes, facial animation, and accessory behavior may still require separate setup.
The head or face is different
Dynamic heads can depend on specialized geometry, facial animation data, and Roblox-specific configuration. Outside Roblox, the head may be only a static mesh or may not reproduce expressions.

R6, R15, and difficult assets
- R6: Its simpler body can export cleanly as a static model, but it is not equivalent to an R15 rig.
- R15: Expect more body parts, scaling data, layered clothing, accessories, and possible dynamic-head issues.
- Bundles and body packages: These can contain separate meshes, attachments, and materials rather than one object.
- Restricted or unavailable assets: A third-party tool may not be able to retrieve every catalog component or its source texture.
- Emotes: An exported mesh does not include your Roblox animation library automatically.
If the importer fails
- Test with a basic R15 avatar using only the default body.
- Temporarily remove layered clothing and unusual accessories.
- Export the body and accessories separately.
- Try OBJ first to establish that geometry is present.
- Use FBX when a rig is required.
- Reopen the model in Studio and inspect which objects are missing.
- Check Blender’s texture paths.
- Try another reputable importer, checking its current compatibility.
- Stop using any tool that requests credentials, cookies, or session files.
For creator-made assets, Roblox’s Avatar Setup tools provide previews, warnings, and validation that can help separate an asset problem from an exporter problem.

Public-avatar tools may technically assemble another user’s visible avatar, but technical access is not permission to redistribute it. Prefer exporting your own avatar or one you have explicit permission to use. Do not bypass private or paid asset access, sell another player’s complete avatar, or repost catalog meshes and textures as your own.
A local export does not transfer ownership of Robux purchases, grant resale rights, or authorize Marketplace publication. Roblox’s asset specifications and setup guidance describe preparing assets you created and are entitled to use, not blanket permission to re-upload someone else’s avatar: character-body specifications and Avatar Setup. Review current Roblox terms, Marketplace rules, and the rights attached to third-party assets before publishing or selling anything.

How to avoid avatar-download scams
- Never provide a password,
.ROBLOSECURITYcookie, HAR file, browser profile, or session token. - Be wary of extensions requesting access to all websites or executables from unknown uploaders.
- Ignore “free Robux” or verification pages attached to avatar-download offers.
- Prefer tools that work from a username or public user ID and clearly explain their permissions.

Alternatives when you only need the appearance
- Use a Roblox thumbnail or screenshot for a profile, thumbnail, or reference image.
- Rebuild the character manually from assets you own or have permission to use.
- Use Roblox’s official avatar templates and Studio validation tools for a game-ready character.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download my Roblox avatar on mobile or Xbox?
The dependable export workflow requires desktop software, especially Roblox Studio and usually Blender. A phone, tablet, or console can display the avatar but generally cannot complete the model export and repair steps.
Is Blender required?
No. Studio and an importer can create the exported file. Blender is useful for opening OBJ, FBX, or GLTF files, fixing textures, editing meshes, posing, and rendering.
Can I export my Roblox animations?
Only a rig-preserving workflow can carry compatible animation data, and a plain OBJ cannot. Roblox emotes and facial systems may still need separate setup outside Roblox.
