Super Chat and Super Stickers let eligible viewers pay to highlight messages or animated stickers in live chat; Gifts let eligible viewers redeem Jewels for on-stream virtual items, earning creators Rubies. To use them, qualify for each feature, accept its separate YouTube agreement, enable it in YouTube Studio, and run an eligible stream with live chat on. YouTube publishes the payout calculations, but neither feature guarantees a particular amount of income.
How the three features work

These features are distinct from donations and crowdfunding. YouTube says Supers and Virtual Items are not donation or crowdfunding tools. The calculations describe platform terms, not how many viewers will buy or send anything.
Check eligibility before planning a stream
Super Chat and Super Stickers
You must meet YouTube’s fan-funding requirements, live where the feature is available, comply with the relevant policies, and accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) or, where applicable, the previously available Commerce Product Addendum. YouTube’s baseline includes YPP membership, being at least 18, and living in a location where the feature is available. YouTube’s feature documentation does not make early-access YPP subscriber or view thresholds a separate Supers requirement; check the channel’s YouTube Studio > Earn area for actual access. See YouTube’s Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies and YPP fan-funding requirements.
Supers are not available on age-restricted, unlisted, private, or Made for Kids videos, YouTube Giving fundraisers, or streams where live chat or comments are turned off. A channel’s feature access does not make every stream eligible.

Gifts
Gifts require YPP membership, age 18 or older, a supported country or region, acceptance of the Virtual Items Module (VI Module), and a verified AdSense account or another age-verification method accepted by Google. YouTube may prompt creators who have not completed AdSense identity verification when they try to enable Gifts. Gifts are unavailable on age-restricted, Made for Kids, unlisted, or private streams, on YouTube Giving fundraisers, and when live chat or comments are turned off. Country lists differ between Supers and Gifts and can change. Check the linked YouTube Help pages and the channel’s Earn area rather than assuming that access to one feature means access to another.
Turn on Super Chat and Super Stickers
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Earn.
- Open the Supers tab or card. It appears when the channel has access.
- Select Get started and complete the prompts, including accepting the CPM if requested.
- Switch on Super Chat, Super Stickers, or both.
- Before streaming, confirm that the stream is eligible and live chat is enabled. Once enabled for the channel, Supers can appear automatically on eligible live streams and Premieres.
YouTube’s setup instructions are available at Manage YouTube Super Chat and Super Stickers for Live Chat. If a third party administers your channel rights, YouTube advises checking with that party before enabling Supers.

Turn on Gifts
- In YouTube Studio, open Earn.
- On desktop, open Supers & gifts; on mobile, open Gifts.
- Select Turn on gifts or Get Started, then follow the prompts to accept the VI Module.
- Confirm that Gifts are enabled and that the planned stream meets the eligibility rules.
You can turn Gifts off from the Earn area. Disabling them removes the feature from eligible streams, but YouTube says historical Gift earnings remain available in Analytics. Setup details are on YouTube’s Gifts setup and reporting page.
What YouTube pays—and what the figures mean
Supers: 70% after specified deductions
YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google. It calculates that share after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted. YouTube currently covers transaction costs, including credit card fees. So this is not 70% of every viewer’s gross payment. Your own Studio agreement governs your account; YouTube’s broader partner earnings overview describes the CPM as paying 70% of net revenue from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks, and directs partners to Studio > Settings > Agreements for their terms.

Gifts: Jewels become Rubies
YouTube’s Virtual Items policy states that every two Jewels redeemed for Gifts earn one Ruby, and that it pays $0.01 per Ruby. This is YouTube’s stated conversion and payment calculation, not a forecast: it does not establish how many viewers will purchase Jewels or send Gifts.
Where to see revenue
For Supers, open YouTube Analytics and check Revenue or How you make money. For Gifts, check the Gifts revenue breakdown in Analytics. Analytics revenue is estimated and may be adjusted, so use finalized account statements and current Studio reporting for accounting rather than treating an estimate as final.

Make the features part of a good live chat
YouTube recommends thanking contributors, acknowledging purchases in real time, reading and responding to chat, encouraging conversation, setting a community goal, and explaining that Supers are enabled and how viewers can use them. A Q&A or audience-submitted challenge can also give the chat a clear activity. These are platform suggestions, not evidence that any tactic produces a measurable increase in revenue.

Policy and income considerations
- Keep streams and viewer interactions within YouTube’s policies and Community Guidelines. If YouTube removes a Super Chat or Super Sticker for a policy violation, YouTube says its portion of the revenue is donated to charity.
- Do not describe these purchases as tax-free tips or as donations. YouTube says creators are responsible for applicable legal obligations; tax and legal treatment depends on location and circumstances. Consult an appropriate local authority or professional for advice about your situation.
- YouTube’s partner guidance does not guarantee how much, or whether, a creator will be paid. Feature availability, contract terms, audience behavior, and final adjustments all matter.
