To embed a YouTube live stream, open its YouTube watch page, select Share > Embed, copy the iframe YouTube generates, and paste it into your website’s HTML or embed-code area. Publish the page and test it in a browser. If you want the stream to keep running on YouTube without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not create or embed a camera broadcast.
Embed the live stream player
- Open the stream’s YouTube watch page. Use the page for the live stream you want visitors to watch.
- Select Share > Embed. Copy the iframe code YouTube displays. YouTube’s generated code is the safest starting point because it contains the correct video identifier and player URL. See YouTube Help’s embedding instructions.
- Paste the code into your site. Use the page editor’s HTML, custom-code, or embed-code block. Some publishing systems strip iframe code or require a particular embed block, so use the method supported by your platform.
- Publish and test the page. Check the live page in a normal browser context, not only inside the editor preview. Confirm that the player loads and that its dimensions fit the page.
The generated code will have this general shape; use YouTube’s actual code rather than substituting this example literally:
<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO_ID" title="YouTube live stream" allowfullscreen></iframe>For a responsive layout, place the iframe in a container that fits the content column and set its width to the available space while preserving a 16:9 aspect ratio. If your site editor offers a YouTube embed block, it may handle sizing for you.
Choose standard or privacy-enhanced embedding
YouTube also offers Privacy Enhanced Mode for website embeds. To use it, change the embed URL host from www.youtube.com to www.youtube-nocookie.com, keeping the rest of the generated URL intact. YouTube says this prevents embedded views from influencing the viewer’s YouTube browsing experience; ads served in this mode are non-personalized. This setting does not remove all site obligations: child-directed sites or apps must still self-designate as required by YouTube. Read YouTube’s embedding guidance before changing the generated code.

Add live chat separately
The embedded video player does not include Live Chat. To show chat alongside the player, add a second iframe using this URL pattern:
https://www.youtube.com/live_chat?v=VIDEO_ID&embed_domain=www.example.comReplace VIDEO_ID with the stream’s video ID and www.example.com with the domain serving the page. The domain in embed_domain must match the embedding site or chat will not open. YouTube says embedded chat is unavailable on mobile web. For visitors on phones, link to the YouTube watch page if they need to participate in chat. See YouTube’s live chat embedding instructions.

When embedding is unavailable or playback fails
- The video owner has disabled embedding. Check the video’s embedding option in YouTube Studio. A site cannot override the owner’s setting.
- The stream is age-restricted. YouTube says age-restricted videos cannot be watched on most third-party websites. Send viewers to the YouTube watch page if the embed is unavailable to them.
- The page lacks HTTP Referer information. YouTube identifies missing Referer information as a cause of player error 153. Keep the player within a normal web page context and check whether your site or security configuration suppresses Referer information. See YouTube’s embedding limitations.
- Your publishing platform strips the iframe. Use its supported embed block or ask the platform administrator whether iframe embeds are permitted.
- A network rule blocks YouTube. Check site or organization firewall rules; YouTube’s instructions tell network administrators to allowlist youtube.com.
- Only chat fails. Check that
embed_domainexactly matches the website domain. Also note that chat embedding is not available on mobile web.
If you still need to start the livestream
Embedding displays an existing YouTube stream; it does not start one. If you are creating the broadcast too, YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its Help page also says streamers must be at least 16. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming access guidance.
