Which platforms support BG3 cross-play?
Larian’s Patch 8 announcement names PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 as supported platforms and also describes cross-platform progression. The announcement calls Patch 8 the game’s final major content patch; it does not say that all future technical fixes have stopped. Larian’s Patch 8 announcement.
Set up accounts and enable cross-play

Each player should connect their gaming platform account to a Larian account.

From the game’s main menu, open Options, select the Gameplay tab, scroll to Allow Cross-play, and check the setting.

Open the account or friends controls available from the main menu, then open the Friends List. Depending on the menu route, Larian describes these controls as Friends List or Larian Account > Manage Account > Friends List.

Find your friend by their Larian account username and send a friend request. They must accept it before you can invite them.
Both the linked account and the in-game cross-play setting are needed. Larian’s multiplayer support FAQ and Community Update #34 describe the account and friends-list setup.

Start a new cross-play session
Host a lobby

From the main menu, select Multiplayer, then open the Cross-Play tab.

Select Create, invite your friends, and adjust the lobby options as needed.

Launch the game once your friends have joined. Each invited player needs cross-play enabled and must accept the invitation.

Join a friend’s lobby
Open Multiplayer > Cross-Play and select your friend’s lobby, or accept their invitation while playing. Larian’s cross-play setup instructions cover creating and joining sessions.
Enable cross-play for an existing campaign
The global Gameplay setting does not automatically enable cross-play for every existing save. The host must switch it on for the campaign being continued.

From the main menu, choose Load Game.

Select the campaign save you want to continue.

Before loading it, enable cross-play for that save. Larian’s support FAQ calls the control Enable CrossPlay; its Patch 8 and Hotfix #32 instructions describe it as a checkbox.

Load the campaign, open Multiplayer, and invite your friend.

Cross-play can work with mods, but everyone needs matching mods and mod versions. If the game shows a Mod Verification window, use it to identify differences; Larian says players can enable, update, downgrade, install, or remove mods there to resolve them.

There are additional requirements when console or Mac players join a modded PC save: Larian’s Hotfix #32 guidance says the save must have no more than 100 mods, and every enabled mod must be marked available on Mac and Console. This is a compatibility limit, not a recommended number of mods. Check Larian’s Hotfix #32 guidance for the rules.
Troubleshoot cross-play connection problems

Check the setting on every player’s game. Confirm that everyone has cross-play enabled in Gameplay options; for an existing campaign, confirm it is also enabled for that save.

Verify the account and friend request. Make sure each player has linked a Larian account, added the right Larian username, and accepted the request or invitation.

Compare mods and versions. Resolve differences in the Mod Verification window. If the connection problem remains, Larian advises trying the session without mods to see whether they are the cause.
