The setting is off by default, and loadstring works only in server scripts—not LocalScripts. Roblox recommends leaving it disabled unless your experience has a clear, carefully controlled need for dynamic code execution.

Show the Explorer and Properties panels if they are not already visible.

In Properties, find LoadStringEnabled and change it from
falsetotrue. -
Put any code that calls

The setting belongs to ServerScriptService. Roblox documents it as not scriptable, so change it in Studio rather than trying to switch it from a game script. Studio’s interface may change, but the documented property and its location are the key details. Roblox Creator Hub: ServerScriptService
Where loadstring works—and where it does not
Enabling the property allows loadstring for server scripts. It does not make the function available to LocalScripts or clients. If loadstring is unavailable in a LocalScript, moving the relevant work to a server script is the key distinction; toggling this setting does not grant client access. What loadstring does and what it returns
Roblox’s Luau reference documents loadstring(contents, chunkname) as compiling the supplied string: on success it returns a function, and on failure it returns nil followed by an error message. It does not load compiled bytecode. The reference also notes that loadstring disables certain optimizations on the returned function. Roblox Creator Hub: Luau globals
Understand the security risk before enabling it
Roblox recommends keeping the property disabled because misuse of loadstring can create remote code execution vulnerabilities. Executing arbitrary code supplied by players is especially risky; enabling the setting is not, by itself, a safe way to run untrusted code.

Roblox’s Luau reference urges extreme caution and says developers who intend to let users run code should protect the returned function’s environment with getfenv() and setfenv(). Those functions are not a guarantee that arbitrary code is safe. Avoid accepting player-provided executable code unless you have designed a carefully restricted execution model. Keep critical game logic on the server. Roblox says ServerScriptService is server-only and its contents are not replicated to players. When adding third-party models or assets, inspect their scripts, sandbox inserted models, and grant only the capabilities they need; Roblox warns that assets can contain malicious scripts or backdoors. How Script Capabilities relate to the setting
Script Capabilities include a LoadString capability that adds a permission layer for scripts. Granting that capability does not replace the experience-level ServerScriptService.LoadStringEnabled setting: the experience must still enable the feature, and loadstring remains server-only.
