You can leave them free or require a Robux price. Roblox does not allow private servers alongside paid access for the experience, and changing a private-server price cancels active subscriptions.
Before you enable private servers
Your experience must be public before Roblox lets you enable private servers. New experiences are private by default, so if the setting is unavailable, check the experience’s audience or publishing configuration first. Roblox documents this requirement on its Private servers page.
Private servers also cannot be enabled while the experience has paid access, whether that access is purchased with Robux or local currency. If your experience uses paid access, Roblox’s Paid access rules say it must not have private servers.
How to turn on private servers in Creator Dashboard
- Open the experience’s main page in Creator Dashboard.
- Expand Audience, then select Access Settings.
- Switch on Allow private servers.
- For free private servers, leave Requires Robux off. To charge for access, switch on Requires Robux and enter a Robux price.
- Save your changes.
Choose free or paid private servers
Roblox supports both free private servers and private servers with a recurring Robux fee. Free access avoids setting a price; a paid server requires a Robux price. Roblox does not recommend a specific price, so choose one that suits your experience rather than treating any amount as an official standard.

What to know before setting or changing a price
Changing the private-server price cancels all active subscriptions. Roblox says affected subscribers receive an inbox message, so treat a price edit as a change that ends existing subscriptions rather than as a simple adjustment to what current subscribers pay.
Who can join a private server?
Players under 13 may not be able to join, depending on their privacy and parental-control settings. Do not assume every younger player can access a server, even if they have an invitation.

Why creators use private servers
Roblox lists playing with friends, holding classes or other gatherings, recording or streaming without other players, and gathering in-game resources as possible uses. The right choice between free and paid access depends on how you want players to use your experience and whether you are willing to manage a recurring Robux price.
