To enable YouTube channel memberships in India, your channel must qualify for the feature and be in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). In YouTube Studio on a computer, go to Earn > Memberships > Get started, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM), then set up compliant membership levels and perks. You do not need a separate switch for a 24/7 stream.
Check whether your channel is eligible
YouTube’s channel-membership guidance, current as of October 2026, lists these feature-specific thresholds: 500 subscribers, at least three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. Meeting the numbers does not guarantee access; YouTube reviews channels for eligibility and policy compliance. Check YouTube’s channel-membership eligibility requirements and your channel’s status in Studio.
You must also be at least 18 and live in a location where memberships are offered. India is supported, but YouTube assesses eligibility for the specific channel. Other feature-specific restrictions include not being set as Made for Kids (or having a significant number of videos set that way) and not being a music channel under SRAV.
YPP requirements are a separate check
Memberships require YPP participation, but the general YPP checklist is not the same as the membership thresholds. YouTube’s YPP overview also lists compliance with monetization policies, no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification, access to advanced features, and a linked or newly created AdSense for YouTube account. YouTube reviews applications; satisfying a checklist does not guarantee acceptance.

Turn on memberships in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel’s account.
- Select Earn in the left menu, then open Memberships.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen setup. When prompted, accept the Commerce Product Module. You and, where applicable, your MCN must accept the CPM for membership revenue.
- Create membership levels and choose perks that comply with YouTube’s policies. YouTube reviews levels and perks before they go live.
- Wait for YouTube’s review. After YPP acceptance, membership access may take up to two days to appear while YouTube reviews the channel.
Possible perks include badges, emoji, posts, live chat, members-only live streams and videos, among other supported benefits. Choose perks you can reliably deliver; the precise options available are set by YouTube.

If your channel is managed by a network
An MCN may need to allow memberships and accept the CPM for the channel. Check Studio > Settings > Agreements with the network if setup is blocked or the required agreement is missing.
What memberships mean for a 24/7 live stream
YouTube lists memberships as a feature that can be used with live streams for eligible channels. The stream being continuous neither grants eligibility nor replaces the Studio setup. Once configured, you can use eligible stream-related benefits such as member-only chat or members-only live streams.

Member-only chat does not hide the public stream
If you enable member-only chat on a public live stream, everyone can still watch the stream; only members can post in chat. If a viewer joins during a live stream, YouTube may show a new-member message in chat and pin that member’s profile image for five minutes. Plan separately for a replay
A 24/7 stream has an archive limitation that is easy to miss: YouTube can automatically archive a live stream shorter than 12 hours, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a replay, make and retain a local recording rather than relying on YouTube to save the continuous broadcast. This archive behavior is separate from whether memberships are enabled. If the Memberships tab is missing or setup fails
- No Memberships tab: YouTube surfaces the tab only when it considers the channel eligible. Open Earn to review the channel’s status, then check the feature thresholds, age and location requirements, content restrictions, and policy compliance.
- YPP not approved: Review the general YPP requirements in Studio and the YPP overview. YouTube reviews channels, so reaching a threshold alone is not approval.
- Membership setup is incomplete: Confirm that the creator accepted the CPM and completed the on-screen setup. If the channel is under an MCN, ask whether the network must accept the module or enable memberships in its agreement settings.
- A level or perk is not approved: YouTube reviews proposed levels and perks against its policies. Revise the affected offer to meet those policies and follow any review guidance shown in Studio.
- The stream ends but no complete replay appears: A broadcast exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Use a local recording when preserving the full stream matters.
