The code takes effect when you type its last letter; you do not press Enter. Console versions use different inputs, and the codes should not be assumed to work in every port or later game.
Enter a cheat code on PC or Mac
- Start or resume a game so Plants vs. Zombies is active and not minimized.
- Type one of the word codes below using the keyboard. Do not open a console or press Enter.
- After the final letter, look for the listed effect in the game.
These instructions come from community-maintained GameFAQs references, not an official EA cheat guide. Some codes are reported to depend on Tree of Wisdom growth, but the references do not establish a reliable height threshold for each one.

Console inputs vary by version
The same community cheat listing gives different controller steps for certain console releases. Enter the button sequence during gameplay, then type the word code where instructed.

These are version-specific reference instructions, not universal controls for every console release or re-release. Check the exact edition you own before trying them.
Do the codes work on DS or mobile?
The community-maintained Plants vs. Zombies Wiki.gg codes page says codes do not appear in the DS, iPhone, and Android versions. That is a bounded claim about the versions covered by that reference, not proof about every later mobile revision or port. PC keyboard codes are not guaranteed to work on those editions.

Built-in codes are not external trainers
This guide covers codes documented as built into particular versions of the original game. Search results about Cheat Engine or unofficial trainers do not establish safe, current instructions for a specific edition, and EA has not endorsed such tools in the cited material. EA’s Plants vs. Zombies support page covers general support topics but does not provide a cheat list.
