A hypothetical setup averaging 100 watts for 24 hours a day over 30 days uses 72 kWh, or 72 units. Its cost depends on your location, consumer category, usage slabs and other bill charges—not on a single India-wide rate.
Estimate the energy use before the cost
A watt is a measure of power at a point in time; a kilowatt-hour is energy used over time. Electricity bills commonly call one kWh a unit. For a PC running a YouTube stream continuously, the key input is its average power draw during representative streaming—not the power supply’s maximum rating.
Decide which equipment to include
For a PC-only estimate, count the PC. For a complete streaming setup, include every device that will remain on for the stream, such as a monitor. Keep the same equipment in the calculation throughout, and say what you counted: otherwise, two estimates are not directly comparable.
Measure at the wall when practical
A plug-in electricity usage monitor that records cumulative kWh can capture the setup’s real use as the workload varies. Measure under representative streaming conditions and for long enough to reflect that variation. Check that any meter is compatible with your outlet, voltage and the load you intend to measure. A manufacturer describes the Climax Technology PSM-29 as having a built-in power meter, consumption measurement and energy history, and lists 110–230 V and multiple regional plug options; that does not establish that this model is sold in India or suitable for every PC load (manufacturer information).

If you cannot measure, label the estimate
Use an explicitly identified estimate of average watts for the equipment and streaming workload. Do not treat the power supply’s rated wattage as its constant draw: it is not a measurement of what the PC uses while streaming. The calculation below shows how to turn an assumed average into energy use; it is not a published statistic about a typical streaming PC.
Calculate kWh for the billing period
Use this formula, with the number of days in your actual billing period:

monthly kWh = average watts × hours per day × days in billing period ÷ 1,000
For a stream that runs continuously, use 24 hours per day. For example, a hypothetical 100 W average total draw over 30 days is:

100 × 24 × 30 ÷ 1,000 = 72 kWh
That is 72 units of energy. It is an arithmetic example, not a claim about how much a typical PC uses. If the billing period is not 30 days, substitute its actual number of days.
Apply the tariff for your electricity connection
There is no single household rate to apply across India. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) says its Financial Studies & Analysis Division prepares an annual tariff-and-duty publication by analyzing State and Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission tariff orders, and collects subsidy and electricity-duty data (CEA Financial Studies & Analysis Division). Its tariff report records context such as the utility, effective date, consumer category, tariff basis and energy charge (CEA tariff and duty report). Use the latest applicable schedule for your own DISCOM and category, and check the effective date and billing details.

Use the correct slab and bill components
If your tariff has consumption slabs, adding the stream’s units may move some consumption into a higher slab. The full bill may also include fixed charges, duties, surcharges, subsidies or other adjustments. CEA’s publication compiles tariff, subsidy and duty information; the charges that apply to your connection depend on its location, category and tariff rules.

These are rates in that Lakshadweep schedule and category, not rates for India as a whole or a proxy for another state. Confirm your own category, current tariff order and billing details before using any rate.
Separate energy-charge arithmetic from the bill increase
If a hypothetical marginal energy charge were ₹6 per kWh, 72 kWh would produce ₹432 in energy-charge arithmetic. This is not a national rate or a prediction of the total bill increase. The actual change can differ because of the applicable tariff, slab treatment, fixed charges, duty, surcharge, subsidy and other billing terms.
To estimate the increase in your bill, compare the same billing period twice under the same tariff: once with the streaming load and once without it, keeping the household’s other use the same. Include slab boundaries and other applicable charges in both calculations. The result remains an estimate; the actual bill depends on metered consumption and applicable adjustments.
