Before you spend Candy, make sure the evolution preview shows Sylveon. Pokémon GO Hub’s guide, updated September 8, 2026, says the Kira shortcut is guaranteed only once per account; if it has already been used, evolve Eevee by earning Buddy Hearts instead.
Use the Kira nickname shortcut
- Select the Eevee you want to evolve and change its name to Kira.
- Return to Eevee’s detail page and check the evolution preview. Continue only if it shows Sylveon.
- If the preview is correct, evolve Eevee using 25 Eevee Candy, the cost listed in Pokémon GO Hub’s guide updated September 8, 2026: Pokémon GO Hub’s Sylveon guide.
The nickname shortcut is a one-time guarantee per account, according to that guide. It is not a repeatable way to guarantee every Sylveon evolution. The current guide still lists Kira, but the trick’s behavior is not confirmed by a current official Niantic service-status notice. Player reports about whether it works are mixed, so trust the in-game preview rather than the nickname alone.
What to do if Kira does not show Sylveon
Do not confirm an evolution if the preview is wrong. Instead, use the Buddy method with the specific Eevee you want to evolve: make it your Buddy and earn 70 Buddy Hearts with it. Pokémon GO Hub lists 25 Eevee Candy as the evolution cost for this route as well.
The Pokémon Company confirms the general requirement: Eevee must be your Buddy while you earn a certain number of hearts together, though its Buddy Adventure explanation does not give the exact count. The 70-heart figure comes from Pokémon GO Hub’s guide.

Nickname or Buddy Hearts: which route should you use?
| Route | Requirement | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Kira nickname | Rename Eevee Kira; the guarantee is once per account. Check that Sylveon appears in the evolution preview. | Use it if the account has not already used the nickname shortcut. |
| Buddy Hearts | Make the Eevee your Buddy and earn 70 hearts with that Eevee; 25 Eevee Candy. | Use this repeatable route if the nickname shortcut is unavailable or does not show the correct preview. |
Why you may have seen a 20-heart requirement
Niantic temporarily reduced Sylveon’s Buddy requirement to 20 hearts during the Precious Pals event. The event ran January 20–25, 2026; Niantic said the usual requirements returned on January 25 at 8:00 p.m. local time. That reduction was event-specific, not the standing requirement. See Niantic’s Precious Pals announcement.
