To feed Sam in Grow a Garden, prepare a meal with the Cooking Kit, equip and hold the cooked food, then approach Sam at the Seed Shop and use the Feed prompt. The documented method is specific to Sam; it does not establish that other NPCs accept meals the same way. The extra Seed Shop tab was described as a friendship reward in 2025, but its current availability and stock are not confirmed by the available sources.
How to feed Sam
- Get the Cooking Kit. Check the in-game Garden Guide for its current achievement requirement. Guides published in 2025 and 2026 describe different prerequisites, so a particular achievement tier is not established here.
- Prepare a meal. Place the Cooking Kit and use crops to cook food. The guides describe feeding Sam a cooked meal; they do not report raw crops triggering the Feed interaction.
- Hold the cooked food and approach Sam. Go to Sam at the Seed Shop with the meal equipped. When the Feed interaction appears, use it. One 2025 guide gives holding E on PC as an example; the prompt or control may differ by platform. All Things How’s September 2025 guide and a guide marked updated in September 2026 describe this cooked-food interaction.
- Check friendship progress. The archived update log says to hold food in front of Sam to see the friendship level. If the interaction or progress display does not appear, make sure the item is cooked food and is equipped, then follow the current in-game prompt.
The archived August 2025 update log described feeding once every 24 hours. Treat that as the historical cooldown, not a guarantee of the current timer; check the interaction in-game for its present timing. The archived update log records the earlier mechanic.
What Sam’s extra Seed Shop tab was reported to unlock
The August 2025 update log described a second Seed Shop tab unlocked through friendship, with four new seeds and hourly restocks at that time. It also said individual seeds had different friendship requirements. A September 2025 guide named Broccoli, Potato, Brussels Sprout, and Cocomango among the seeds reported there and said they cost Garden Coins. These are historical details, not a verified current inventory or guarantee that the extra tab is still available.
The Seed Shop wiki reflects later shop changes but does not establish the present status of Sam’s friendship tab. A March 2026 player discussion likewise raises uncertainty about the former extra shop tier without proving it is active or inactive. Check Sam’s current shop interface and friendship display rather than relying on old seed lists or restock details.

If the Feed prompt does not appear
- Confirm the item is a meal: the guides describe cooked food, not raw crops.
- Equip and hold it near Sam: holding food is also the method the archived update log gives for viewing friendship progress.
- Check the Garden Guide: the exact Cooking Kit achievement requirement is not consistently described across guides, so use the in-game requirement shown for your account.
- Check the current prompt and timer: the control example and 24-hour interval come from earlier guide material and may not describe the live game’s current UI or timing.
