Find a free Steam game’s DLC on its Store page or by searching Steam, then check the game’s Library DLC settings to see what is associated with your account and installed. DLC availability, price and in-game activation depend on the individual game.
Find out whether the game has DLC
Not every free-to-play game offers downloadable content. Open the game’s Steam Store page and look for its DLC section, or search Steam for the game or the specific DLC name. Steam’s DLC instructions say that when a game offers DLC, it can be found from the base game’s Store page or through search.

Check the individual DLC listing for its price and any restrictions before proceeding. Steam says free-to-play games can be downloaded and played without a subscription or credit card, but that does not mean every add-on is free. Optional content and purchase terms vary by game; see Steam’s free-to-play FAQ and the relevant Store page.
Check and install DLC through your Steam Library
To inspect DLC associated with your account and its installation status, open the game’s DLC settings. Steam documents three routes; use whichever is visible in your client:

- In Library, right-click the game and select Properties, then open DLC.
- Open the game’s Library page, select the gear icon, choose Properties, then open DLC.
- On the game’s Library page, scroll to the DLC section and select Manage My DLC.
The DLC management view shows the content associated with the game and whether it is installed. If a download is underway or the installation is not obvious, check Steam’s Download Manager for download and update activity.
Know what “installed” means
Steam’s DLC view reports installation status, but it does not guarantee that every game automatically enables newly installed content. Some titles may require an in-game step, such as selecting content or reaching a particular menu. If Steam shows the DLC as installed but it does not appear in the game, check that title’s Store page and developer or publisher support guidance for its activation requirements.

Distinguish playable DLC from bonus files
Soundtracks, artwork and similar bonus files are not necessarily playable DLC. For those files, open the game’s Library page, select the gear icon, choose Properties, then Local Files and Browse. Steam explains this route in its bonus-content FAQ.
