How to Find the Best Streaming Hours for a 24/7 YouTube Channel

Find candidate hours in YouTube Studio’s Audience report, account for viewer time zones, and validate the best windows with your channel’s live-stream results.

Use YouTube Studio’s Audience → When your viewers are on YouTube report to find candidate days and hours, then check those windows against your own live-stream results. The report shows when your viewers were active across YouTube over the last 28 days; it is a useful timing signal, not a prediction that they will watch your channel. There is no universal best hour for every 24/7 stream.

How do I find the best time to stream on YouTube?

  1. Open the Audience report. In YouTube Studio, go to Analytics → Audience and find When your viewers are on YouTube. Look for recurring day-and-time patterns in the chart. YouTube says the report covers activity across YouTube over the previous 28 days and can help creators plan a live stream. YouTube Help: Understand your YouTube audience.
  2. Turn patterns into candidate windows. Note several recurring blocks rather than picking a single strongest-looking cell. Convert each candidate into the local time of the largest relevant viewer regions, so a convenient hour for you does not accidentally fall in the middle of the night for most of your audience.
  3. Check your live-stream metrics. In YouTube Studio, review the live-stream reporting for average and peak concurrent viewers, average view duration, watch time, audience retention, and traffic sources. Where available, use filters to distinguish live from on-demand viewing. These metrics describe your channel’s actual stream outcomes, unlike the cross-YouTube activity chart. YouTube Help: See your live stream’s metrics.
  4. Compare like with like. Compare streams or time blocks across multiple comparable periods. Keep format and content as consistent as practical: YouTube notes that audience behavior can differ by format and recommends using performance trends to identify high-performing streams and decide when to go live. YouTube Help: Content tab analytics tips — Live and Tips to learn what viewers are watching.
  5. Choose the window that fits your goal. For live chat and interaction, peak or average concurrent viewers may matter most. For a continuous feed, average view duration, watch time, and retention help show whether viewers stay. Consider traffic sources and geography too. YouTube does not set a universal score, weighting, or minimum sample size for choosing a winning hour, so define the outcome that matters to your channel and look for a pattern rather than treating one unusually strong stream as decisive.

How to interpret “When your viewers are on YouTube”

The chart is about when your viewers are online across YouTube—not when they are certain to watch your channel, or a particular live stream. Use it to generate candidate windows, then validate those windows with your channel’s live data. YouTube also cautions that some audience information, including geography, may be limited. Sparse or missing regional data does not prove that you have no viewers there; avoid strong conclusions from a thin report.

For a 24/7 channel, think in recurring blocks rather than a single start time. Look for periods that align with audience availability and then examine whether your own live audience and viewing duration support keeping that block in your schedule. If your stream runs continuously, timing decisions can mean when to launch, refresh, or promote a particular program—not necessarily when to stop broadcasting.

Which metrics should I compare?

Measure What it helps answer How to use it
Audience activity by day and hour When are viewers active across YouTube? Use recurring chart patterns to shortlist time blocks; treat them as availability clues, not channel-specific attendance forecasts.
Top geographies and local time Which audience regions might a window suit? Translate candidate blocks to relevant local times, while allowing for limited or incomplete geography data.
Average and peak concurrent viewers How many viewers watched at once? Compare similar live periods; peak can reveal a short-lived high point, while average helps describe the broader period.
Average view duration, watch time, and retention Did viewers stay, and how much viewing accumulated? Use these alongside concurrency to distinguish a brief audience spike from more sustained viewing.
Traffic sources and content format How did viewers find the stream, and was the comparison fair? Compare similar formats and inspect traffic sources for context; audience behavior differs across formats.

The available measures are reported in YouTube Studio’s live-stream analytics. See YouTube’s explanation of live-stream metrics.

A practical way to test candidate hours

  1. Write down several recurring day-and-time windows from the Audience chart.
  2. Note the major viewer geographies shown for your channel and convert each window to their local times where relevant.
  3. For each candidate, record results from comparable live periods using the same set of measures: concurrency, viewing duration, watch time, retention, and traffic sources.
  4. Repeat the comparison over multiple comparable periods. Keep content format in mind and avoid attributing a result to timing alone if the streams differ substantially.
  5. Decide which outcome is most important for your channel, then favor the candidate window that best supports it. Revisit the choice as new audience and live-stream data accumulate.

YouTube’s guidance supports reviewing performance trends and making same-format comparisons, but it does not prescribe an exact experiment length or statistical test. Treat the process as an ongoing channel-specific decision, not a one-time search for a permanent optimum.

Or let it run in the cloud

Finding the right hours is an analytics decision; keeping a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream online is an operations decision. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers it.
