On an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, open Xbox button → Profile & system → Settings → System → Console info. Copy the value beside Xbox Live Device ID or Xbox network device ID. Do not substitute the serial number, Console ID, MAC address, or gamertag.
Find the Xbox Live Device ID on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S
- Press the Xbox button on your controller.
- Select Profile & system.
- Choose Settings.
- Open System, then select Console info (sometimes shown as Console information).
- Find the field labeled Xbox Live Device ID or Xbox network device ID.
The exact wording can vary with the console’s software version or Microsoft’s terminology. Match the label requested by the form rather than copying the first identifier displayed. Microsoft’s guidance places the device information on the console’s Console info screen.
You generally do not need to be signed in to the affected Xbox account to open this screen, but the console must be accessible and able to reach its settings.

The Console info screen can show several different identifiers. For account recovery, use the one whose label exactly matches the request.

Important: the Xbox Live/network device ID is not necessarily the same as the Console ID. It is also not the same as the serial number. Microsoft’s account-recovery guidance distinguishes the requested device identifier from the serial number.
What the other terms mean
- Serial number: a hardware and service identifier, often printed on the console.
- Console ID: a separate console identifier shown on the same information screen.
- Global device ID: another distinct device-related entry that should not be substituted without explicit instructions.
- MAC address: a network-interface identifier found in network settings, not a replacement for the Xbox Live device ID.
- Gamertag: your public-facing Xbox profile name, not a hardware identifier.
Do not rely on a fixed number of characters or a particular prefix. Copy the complete value exactly as displayed and do not add spaces or punctuation unless the form requires them.

How to find the identifier on Xbox 360
Xbox 360 uses different terminology and menus:
Settings hub → System → Console Settings → System Info
The Console ID appears below the console serial number on the system-information screen. Xbox 360 should not be assumed to display a field literally called Xbox Live Device ID in the same way as Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. If an older-account recovery form uses different wording, provide the identifier that matches the form or ask official Xbox Support which value it requires.

What if the console is broken or unavailable?
If the Xbox cannot boot far enough to open Console info, there may be no reliable self-service way to retrieve this specific device ID. The sticker or label on the hardware normally provides the serial number, not necessarily the Xbox Live/network device ID. The Xbox app, Xbox.com, and Microsoft account device lists should not be treated as guaranteed alternatives for this value.
- Use official Xbox troubleshooting to try to restore access to the console.
- Complete the Microsoft account-recovery form with every other accurate detail you can provide.
- Explain that the console’s device-ID screen is unavailable if the form allows additional information.
- Contact Xbox Support if the identifier is mandatory and you cannot display it.
If you own more than one Xbox, use the console associated with the account when possible and note which console supplied the identifier. A replacement Xbox has different hardware identifiers, so do not guess an old value after a replacement or reset.

Is the Xbox Live Device ID a user or account ID?
No. It identifies the console or device, not the person using it. A gamertag is the visible Xbox profile identity, while an account or XUID-related identity belongs to the user or Microsoft account. The serial number is primarily used for hardware servicing and warranty purposes.
Microsoft’s GDK documentation describes the Console ID in development-related contexts and notes that it corresponds to the Console ID visible in console settings. That developer API is not a practical consumer method for completing account recovery. Microsoft also documents app-specific device identifiers, which have different uses and should not be substituted for the value shown on the Console info screen.

Privacy and security
- Share the identifier only through an official Microsoft or Xbox recovery page or with verified Xbox Support.
- Do not publish it in screenshots, forums, videos, or social posts.
- Blur all identifiers before sharing a Console info screenshot.
- Never provide your password or recovery codes to anyone claiming to be support.
The device ID is supporting information for a recovery process; it does not recover the Microsoft account by itself.
