How to Fix a 24/7 YouTube Music Stream Dropping on Indian Broadband

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

First find out whether the YouTube live event is actually disconnecting or whether only viewers are buffering. If you broadcast with OBS, a rising dropped-frames count points to an unstable connection to YouTube’s ingest server or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain. If the event stays live and OBS is not dropping frames, investigate playback on the affected viewers’ devices and networks instead. A problem occurring on an Indian broadband connection does not, by itself, establish that the ISP or broadband service is at fault.

Identify what is dropping before changing settings

The live event goes offline or OBS reports dropped frames

Watch OBS’s dropped-frame count and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health indicator during a test. Note the time of each interruption and any error shown in Live Control Room. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or that the configured bitrate cannot be sustained. YouTube’s error messages can also flag configuration problems, including bitrate, video or audio format, resolution, frame rate, and keyframe frequency.

The live event stays online, but viewers see buffering

If OBS does not show increasing dropped frames and the event remains live, do not lower the broadcaster’s bitrate as the first response. Ask an affected viewer to try another device and another network. YouTube’s playback guidance also recommends reducing interference near the router. These comparisons help distinguish an individual playback problem from an outgoing broadcast problem.

Run a controlled connection test

  1. Use the actual streaming computer and connection. Test upload speed on the computer that runs OBS, not on a different device elsewhere in the home. Record the result; a headline download speed does not show whether the upload can sustain your stream.
  2. Test when interruptions usually happen. Repeat the upload test around the time of day when the stream tends to drop. A one-time result cannot establish that a connection stays stable for a long broadcast.
  3. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet. If the computer uses Wi-Fi, temporarily connect it to the router with Ethernet and compare OBS’s dropped frames and YouTube’s stream health. OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming because Wi-Fi can be unstable. A cable test isolates Wi-Fi as a possible factor; it does not prove or fix an ISP-side route problem.
  4. Reduce competing uploads for the test. Pause other heavy uploads temporarily so you can compare the stream under more controlled conditions. This helps isolate conditions but does not, on its own, identify who is responsible for a failure.
  5. Keep a timestamped record. Note each interruption, OBS’s dropped-frame count, Live Control Room’s health status and exact error text, and the upload-test result. These details make the next adjustment or an ISP support request more useful.

Set a bitrate your upload can sustain

Choose the codec, resolution, and frame rate first, then compare your upload’s measured stability with YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates. The figures below are YouTube’s encoder guidance, not a broadband-plan requirement or a guarantee that a 24/7 stream will never drop. The YouTube Help page gives the following H.264 figures; its publication date is not shown.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Output Recommended H.264 video bitrate Minimum H.264 video bitrate
720p30 8 Mbps 3 Mbps
720p60 8 Mbps 3 Mbps
1080p30 14 Mbps 5 Mbps
1080p60 17 Mbps 6 Mbps

Do not treat one of these numbers as a universal target: YouTube’s table varies by codec and frame rate. Leave headroom below the upload rate you can actually sustain, then run a test and watch stream health. OBS’s 2024 connection-troubleshooting guidance suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for bitrate troubleshooting. That is an OBS heuristic, not a YouTube requirement or a promise of stability over an all-day stream.

Check YouTube’s ingest and encoder settings

For RTMP or RTMPS ingest, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. These are separate from the bitrate value itself. If Live Control Room reports a specific error, follow that error rather than changing unrelated settings at random.

  • Check that the configured bitrate matches the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate and is supportable by the measured upload.
  • Check the video and audio formats, resolution, and frame rate if Live Control Room flags them.
  • Check that the keyframe interval is two seconds and no longer than four seconds.
  • After making a change, run a test with movement and audio comparable to the actual stream. Monitor stream health during the test.

A music stream still needs a stable outgoing connection and correctly configured encoder. Also make sure you have the rights needed for the music and recordings you broadcast. Do not assume that a technically healthy stream is automatically cleared to use every track.

When to contact your broadband provider

If the stream continues to drop over Ethernet, the configured bitrate is below the upload capacity you can sustain, and YouTube’s configuration errors have been addressed, send your provider evidence rather than a general claim that broadband is unreliable. OBS notes that route congestion or ISP-side changes can be outside the broadcaster’s control; the available technical guidance does not establish a particular Indian ISP, city, plan, or broadband-wide cause.
