First establish whether the encoder stopped sending, the internet connection failed, or YouTube ended the broadcast after its incoming feed stopped. Check the encoder, YouTube Live Control Room, and local recording together before changing settings or replacing equipment.
Find out what stopped first
During the next service or a monitored test, note the time of the interruption and check three places: the encoder’s status and log, the stream status in YouTube Live Control Room, and the local recording or archive.
- Encoder stopped or reports dropped frames: investigate the encoder, computer, and outbound network connection.
- Encoder still sending, but the YouTube broadcast ended: check Live Control Room messages and the stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings.
- Local recording stopped too: investigate the encoder, source, or computer rather than assuming YouTube alone caused the problem.
- Local recording continues while transmission drops: focus on the connection between the encoder and YouTube’s ingest server.
YouTube’s API documentation describes a stream with status active as one where the server is receiving data from the encoder. Treat that status as one useful clue alongside the encoder’s own output and logs; it does not by itself identify why an interruption occurred.
Check the encoder and computer
- Update the encoder software. YouTube recommends checking that the encoder is current when troubleshooting a live stream. Avoid changing multiple settings at once, so you can tell whether a change affects the fault.
- Check the encoder’s picture and sound. Confirm that the correct scene, source, and audio are active, and inspect its error information at the time the stream stops.
- Watch CPU load and encoder output. Look for signs the computer cannot keep up or that the encoder has stopped producing a usable feed. Compare the encoder’s status with the local archive.
- Use another encoder only if the evidence points to an encoder problem. YouTube includes trying a different encoder among its troubleshooting options, but a replacement is not the first step when the encoder appears healthy and network indicators show trouble.
YouTube’s stream troubleshooting steps include updating encoder software, checking its output and CPU load, testing outbound internet, and contacting the ISP if the connection itself is problematic (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream).

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the network path to YouTube
While streaming, examine the encoder’s statistics for dropped frames, intermittent disconnections, or a sharp bitrate decline. OBS says: “If you experience dropped frames or intermittent disconnections while streaming, there is a network issue between your computer and the remote stream ingest server.” (OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting, dated September 30, 2024.) OBS also notes that excessive dropped frames can disconnect a stream.
- Test the outbound internet connection while the encoder is streaming, not only when the stream is idle.
- Record whether dropped frames or bitrate collapse begin before YouTube reports the stream offline.
- If the site is on Wi-Fi, a wired Ethernet connection can help check whether the local wireless link is involved. A cable is not a guaranteed fix: it will not resolve an ISP outage, encoder failure, power loss, or an unsuitable configuration.
- If the connection itself appears problematic, contact the ISP with the interruption time and encoder/network observations. YouTube’s guidance says, “If you find issues with your Internet connection, contact your Internet service provider to troubleshoot.”
The consulted documentation does not establish India-specific conditions for this church’s connection. Its ISP, network measurements, and any local outage would need to be checked on site.

Review YouTube’s broadcast settings
Open the scheduled stream in Live Control Room and inspect auto-start and auto-stop. Check the actual stream rather than assuming defaults: when stream settings are reused, those selections can carry over from a previous broadcast.
YouTube’s API guide says that, when auto-stop is enabled, YouTube ends a broadcast about a minute after the encoder stops sending video. That setting can explain YouTube’s reaction to a lost feed; it does not explain what caused the encoder’s transmission to cease. Review the setting in context rather than treating auto-stop as the underlying fault.

Run a monitored test before the next service
YouTube recommends preparing encoder streams in advance, checking the Live Control Room preview before going live, verifying that the local archive is growing, checking that the watch page is accessible, and monitoring audio and video quality (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream).

- Set up the stream early enough to test the encoder and confirm that Live Control Room receives the feed.
- Check the preview and confirm the watch page can be accessed as expected.
- Verify that the local archive file is increasing in size during the test.
- Monitor encoder status, bitrate, and dropped frames instead of relying only on whether the watch page appears live.
- If the failure recurs, write down the exact time and YouTube message, whether the encoder was still sending, its dropped-frame and bitrate status, and whether the local archive continued growing. Give those details to the ISP or use them to narrow the encoder and broadcast-setting checks.
Does YouTube end streams after 12 hours?
YouTube’s note about streams longer than 12 hours concerns DVR capability: pausing or rewinding may be limited or unavailable. It does not say that YouTube automatically ends a stream after a few hours, so it does not explain this symptom by itself (YouTube Help: DVR on live streams; undated page accessed October 3, 2026).
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep pre-recorded church video live on YouTube continuously, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud rather than from a computer at the church. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing at home has to stay on; there is automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality. The first day is free with no card. The monthly plan is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. Start the free first day on StreamNeo.
