A Roblox Studio install can fail in several different ways: the download may never start, the installer may freeze, Studio may install but not launch, or your browser may keep asking you to install it. Most cases are local installation, security, or network problems rather than damaged Roblox projects. Work through the least-destructive fixes below, then reinstall cleanly only if necessary.
Find your symptom first

Check that your computer supports Studio
The current Roblox Studio setup requirements list Windows 10 or newer and macOS 10.14 or newer. Studio needs at least 3 GB of RAM; 8 GB is recommended. A 1600×900 display or better is recommended, not a minimum installation requirement.
- On Windows, use a 64-bit edition of Windows 10 or 11. Roblox’s broader requirements also call for DirectX 10-or-higher feature-level support and at least 300 MB of free storage for the Roblox application.
- Linux is not supported. Use a supported Windows or Mac installation instead.
- Minimum RAM means compatibility, not smooth performance in large places or with demanding plugins.
These additional Windows details come from Roblox’s computer hardware and operating-system requirements.
Try the safe fixes before reinstalling
- Save any open work and quit Studio, Roblox Player, browsers, and other installers.
- Restart the computer. A Roblox process left running is a documented cause of install loops and update failures.
- Download a new installer from the official Creator Hub Studio setup page. Do not use “Roblox Studio fix” utilities, modified packages, or unofficial mirrors.
- Open your browser’s download history, locate the completed file, and run it from the local Downloads folder. Windows uses
RobloxStudio.exe; the Mac download is a.dmgdisk image, commonly namedRobloxStudio.dmg. - Disconnect an unneeded VPN and check Settings > Network & internet > Proxy in Windows. Turn off a proxy or setup script only when you do not need it for work or school.
- Open Date & time settings and enable automatic time and the correct time zone.
- Check available disk space, antivirus quarantine, and firewall notifications. Update security software and allow Roblox when the product offers a specific allow-list option.
Roblox identifies running processes, temporary-file corruption, firewall or antivirus interference, and damaged Roblox files as common desktop and endless-loop causes (General Desktop Roblox Issues).

Clean reinstall on Windows
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features on older Windows) and uninstall Roblox and Roblox Studio.
- Restart Windows.
- Check
%localappdata%Roblox. Roblox normally stores its Windows files underC:Users<Your Windows Username>AppDataLocalRoblox. - If an ordinary reinstall still fails, back up any Roblox-related local files you genuinely need, then remove only leftover Roblox application data. Treat this as an escalation step, not a required first action: Roblox’s published pages do not prescribe one universal Studio-specific deletion command.
- If the browser returns to the install prompt, clear its temporary files and cookies, then restart the browser.
- Download a fresh installer from Creator Hub and double-click
RobloxStudio.exedirectly from Downloads. - When Windows Security or your antivirus asks, permit Roblox through the firewall or add the Roblox folder to the product’s allow list. Re-enable normal protection after any controlled test.
Roblox’s reinstall instructions explain that reinstalling replaces broken or deleted files. It cannot fix an unsupported operating system, a filtered network, a managed-device policy, or damaged Windows components.
Confirm that Studio is actually present
A web-installed Studio executable is typically below %localappdata%RobloxVersions[version]RobloxStudioBeta.exe (Studio command-line documentation). If the browser still says “Install Studio” while that file exists, the installation or browser registration is likely damaged; repeat the clean reinstall rather than downloading a second installer.

Clean reinstall on Mac
- Quit Roblox and Studio completely, remove the application, and restart the Mac.
- Open the
.dmgfile you downloaded in Finder’s recent files and complete the installation. The exact filename can differ between the general Roblox application and Studio; open the disk image you actually downloaded. - If the problem persists, open
~/Library/Logs/Roblox/and delete the log contents, as Roblox documents. - Only if needed, reset preferences by removing Roblox-related
comfiles fromLibrary/Preferences. Avoid deleting unrelated preference files. - Launch Studio from Applications or the Dock. If Safari appears to be causing the loop, test the download with Firefox or Google Chrome.

Check security, proxy, and network restrictions
Antivirus and internet-security products can quarantine Roblox executables or block their network access. Inspect the blocked-item history, update the product, and create a targeted allow-list exception when appropriate. Do not leave antivirus permanently disabled.

Roblox’s firewall and router guidance says the client selects outgoing ports dynamically; opening arbitrary inbound ports is not a normal installation fix. A quick diagnostic is to try a phone hotspot. If the installer works there, investigate the original router, proxy, DNS filtering, VPN, or firewall policy.
School, workplace, and family-managed computers may block executable downloads, app installation, local-app-data access, Roblox domains, or firewall changes. In that case, an administrator must approve the installation; bypassing the policy is not a reliable or appropriate fix.

Error-specific cases
“Failed to load library” or a missing DLL
Roblox associates this error with missing or corrupted Windows files, security software, an outdated system, a damaged installation, and Windows N/KN editions that lack media components. Install the current Windows updates, check security quarantine, and reinstall Studio first. If the computer is an N or KN edition, investigate Microsoft’s Media Feature Pack for that Windows release. Microsoft Store versus web installation
Identify whether Roblox came from the Microsoft Store or from the Creator Hub download before mixing instructions. Roblox specifically notes that Store-version installation problems can behave differently. Remove the broken version and install the current Studio package from Creator Hub if that is the version you intend to use.

Studio launches and immediately closes
Check antivirus quarantine, repeat the clean reinstall, and reproduce the failure once more before collecting logs. Do not assume a project is damaged merely because Studio closes.
Collect logs and contact Roblox Support
Collect diagnostics after reproducing the problem and especially after reinstalling fails. Roblox asks users to send logs only when a Roblox employee requests them.

Bootstrapper logs are useful when the failure occurs during a browser launch or update. Roblox notes that Studio logs can be distinguished by the Studio identifier in filenames (log locations).

- whether Player, Studio, or both are affected;
- whether the download completed and where it freezes;
- the clean-reinstall steps you tried;
- whether another network changed the result;
- any antivirus or firewall block; and
- requested logs attached only through the support process.
Final recovery order
- Verify supported Windows/macOS, RAM, storage, and (on Windows) 64-bit and DirectX requirements.
- Restart and close every Roblox process, browser window, and installer.
- Download the official installer again and run it locally.
- Check proxy, VPN, date/time, firewall, and antivirus quarantine.
- Uninstall, restart, and reinstall Studio.
- Reset leftover local data or Mac preferences only as an escalation step.
- Test another network and check whether the device is managed.
- Reproduce the failure, collect the appropriate log path, and contact Roblox Support with complete system details.
