Those are different problems. Check the loop setting for the source you actually use, then compare OBS meter activity, local monitoring and the YouTube output before changing codecs or blaming an OBS bug.
Identify where the audio stops
When the ambience video loops, check whether viewers hear silence too. Compare the live YouTube playback or its recording with what you hear through your headphones or speakers. Watch the relevant OBS audio meter as the loop boundary passes: meter activity, by itself, does not prove the audio is reaching YouTube.
- Audio stops for viewers exactly at the loop point: inspect the media source, its loop control and the audio track or file arrangement.
- You hear audio in OBS, but YouTube is silent: investigate stream routing and verify the transmitted output; local monitoring can differ from the stream. A 2025 OBS forum report describes this kind of discrepancy, but does not establish one cause for it: OBS forum discussion.
- Only one viewer hears silence: test playback on another device or connection before changing the OBS source.
- You hear an echo or repeated audio, rather than silence: check for a monitoring feedback path; that is a separate symptom.
Check the OBS source and its loop settings
OBS Media Source with one file
Open the Media Source properties and check Loop. OBS documents this setting as replaying the file after playback completes. Confirm that the source is playing the file you expect and that its audio is part of that file. The OBS documentation describes the control, but does not guarantee gapless audio for every file or setup: OBS Media Sources documentation.
VLC Video Source with a playlist
Open the VLC Video Source properties. Check Loop Playlist and confirm the intended Audio Track is selected. The playlist loop is documented as on by default, but inspect the actual source settings rather than relying on the default. VLC must be installed for VLC Video Source to appear in OBS. OBS documents the VLC dependency and source controls.

If the picture loops but the sound does not, establish whether the audio is embedded in the ambience video or comes from another source or playlist item. Confirm the selected track and that the video and audio you expect are actually paired. Do not assume the visible playlist item guarantees the intended audio track is playing.
Separate stream routing from local monitoring
If you can hear the source locally but the YouTube output is silent, check that the source is routed to the stream output. Use a short controlled test and listen to the actual YouTube playback, not only OBS monitoring. Monitoring controls affect what you hear; they do not, on their own, verify what viewers receive.

Change one setting at a time and note whether the sound stops precisely at the loop boundary, after a scene transition, or only on one device. Compare the OBS meter, your local monitor and the YouTube output as separate signals.
Rule out feedback when the symptom is an echo
If you hear repeated audio rather than a silent loop, close the YouTube stream playback on the streaming computer while diagnosing. Check whether OBS monitoring and desktop capture use the same device, which can create a feedback path. This possibility comes from OBS forum advice about repeated audio, not an official diagnosis of loop-boundary silence: OBS forum discussion of continuously looping desktop audio.

Test YouTube playback on the viewer’s device
If the transmitted audio is intact but one viewer gets silence, try another connection or device. YouTube’s computer troubleshooting guidance also recommends software and app checks such as clearing an app cache, updating or restarting the app or device, and manually adjusting playback quality. Network congestion can affect live programming. These checks help isolate viewer playback; they will not fix a source that reliably loses audio at the loop point for everyone. Use file or version tests as controlled experiments
Historical OBS issue reports describe specific setups: one concerns audio-only Media Source monitoring, and another reports AAC loop trouble while remuxed M4A/MP4 files worked for that reporter. They do not show that current OBS versions have the same defects or that converting a file will fix your stream. If the basic checks fail, preserve the original file, record your OBS version and source type, then compare the original with a controlled alternate file or source. Change only one variable at a time: historical monitoring report and historical AAC-loop report.

Troubleshoot in a repeatable order
- Reproduce the failure: note whether viewers, the YouTube recording, or only your local monitor lose audio, and whether it happens exactly at the loop point.
- Inspect the source: check Loop for Media Source, or Loop Playlist and Audio Track for VLC Video Source.
- Compare the signals: observe the OBS meter, local monitoring and YouTube output separately.
- Isolate the viewer: if YouTube output is audible elsewhere, test another device or connection and use YouTube’s playback troubleshooting guidance.
- Test one change: compare a single-source setup or alternate media file while keeping the original and noting the OBS version and result.
- Escalate with useful details: if it persists, capture an OBS log and test a short local recording and a private or unlisted stream, changing one source variable at a time.
