If Honkai: Star Rail says “Account or password error,” first check which HoYoverse account and sign-in method you used when you created or linked your game account. A Google, Apple, or Game Center sign-in is not necessarily the same as typing the email address associated with that service into the HoYoverse email-and-password form. Use the same linked sign-in method where your device supports it, then check your credentials. If that does not restore access, use HoYoverse’s recovery options or contact support.
1. Check the account details you entered
Start with the HoYoverse email address or username and password, if you are signing in with those credentials. Check for a mistyped character and remove any unintended spaces at the beginning or end of either field. These are basic input checks, not confirmed causes of this particular error.
The message alone does not establish that your password is wrong. If the details appear correct, check whether you are using the same sign-in route that was linked to your Honkai: Star Rail account.
2. Use the sign-in method linked to your game account
HoYoverse distinguishes between signing in with a HoYoverse email or username and password, and signing in through a linked third-party service. If you previously entered the game through a social sign-in, select that same service rather than assuming that manually entering its email address will open the same account. HoYoverse’s cross-device account guidance says to use the same linked service as before.

Community discussions from 2023 describe players who tried an email-and-password form after using Google sign-in and did not reach the expected account. These reports are anecdotal: they illustrate a possible sign-in-method mismatch, but cannot identify the cause of every “Account or password error.”
3. Choose a sign-in option supported on your device
HoYoverse’s cross-device guidance lists email or username with password on all platforms, with social sign-in options varying by platform:

Use the social option that was linked to your account and is available on the device you are using. HoYoverse says verified account progress and data can sync across devices; switching devices does not by itself mean you should create or use a different game account.
4. Recover the account if the checks do not work
If you still cannot access the expected account, follow HoYoverse’s Account Recovery options or contact HoYoverse support. This is especially important if you no longer have access to the email address or mobile verification method linked to the account. Do not assume that resetting a password alone will solve a problem caused by using a different account or sign-in route.

Why this error can be confusing
One account may be accessed using a HoYoverse username or email and password, or through a linked third-party service. The email address associated with Google or Apple is not, by itself, proof that the HoYoverse password form is the correct route for that game account. The official cross-device help article explains linked sign-in methods, but it is not a dedicated diagnosis of this exact error message; no single cause or universal fix is established.
