Use the RTMPS ingest URL and stream key shown for your broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room, confirm your FFmpeg build supports RTMPS, and connect to the exact YouTube hostname on port 443. If a TCP connection to that host still fails, check the VPS firewall and ask the provider about outbound filtering. There is no evidence here that Indian VPS providers generally block YouTube; diagnose the specific server before attributing the failure to a firewall.
Start with the right diagnosis
A failed YouTube connection can come from an incorrect ingest URL, an unavailable RTMPS protocol in the installed FFmpeg build, a DNS or TCP connectivity problem, or an egress rule on the VPS or its provider. A timeout by itself does not identify which one is responsible.
YouTube’s Live Control Room provides the RTMPS URL for the stream. YouTube’s guidance is to use rtmps, not plain rtmp; it also advises specifying port 443 if an SSL error continues with the correct URL. [YouTube Help]
Copy the current RTMPS endpoint from YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room for the intended broadcast.
- Copy the RTMPS URL and the stream key associated with that stream. Do not substitute a hostname from an example or use an old saved endpoint without checking it.
- Preserve the complete hostname and URL path. YouTube’s API guidance requires a valid ingestion endpoint and path, a connection to port 443, and the hostname for SNI-based server authentication. [YouTube RTMPS ingestion guidance]
- Keep the stream key private. Avoid posting it in support tickets, screenshots, or logs; redact it before sharing diagnostic output.
A command’s output URL has this general shape:
ffmpeg [input and encoding options] -f flv "rtmps://<exact-host>:443/<exact-path>/<stream-key>"

This is an illustrative template, not a tested, complete command. Use the actual URL format supplied by Live Control Room, and quote the URL so shell-special characters in the key are preserved. Verify FFmpeg has RTMPS support
Check the FFmpeg binary installed on the VPS rather than assuming every build has the same protocols or configuration. Run ffmpeg -protocols and inspect the output for RTMPS support; also check the installed build’s configuration output if needed. The official protocol documentation describes RTMPS, but a build that lacks the required support cannot be fixed by opening a firewall port. [FFmpeg protocol documentation]

If RTMPS is absent, use an FFmpeg build that includes the necessary support. Do not try to work around missing TLS support by switching to an insecure plain-RTMP URL when YouTube requires RTMPS.
Test DNS and outbound TCP 443 from the VPS
- Identify the exact hostname in the current RTMPS URL from Live Control Room.
- From the VPS, check that hostname resolves in DNS.
- Attempt a TCP connection from the VPS to that exact hostname on port 443. Use a network test tool already available on your server; the destination must match YouTube’s endpoint rather than a guessed or substituted host.
- Check the server’s own firewall and outbound network rules. If the connection cannot be established, ask the VPS provider whether it filters outbound connections to the destination on TCP 443.
A failed connection is a reason to investigate the server or provider network, not proof of an India-wide block. No provider-specific restriction or general block by Indian VPS providers is established. If considering another VPS, verify its outbound RTMPS/TCP 443 policy, support response, and bandwidth or usage terms directly before moving.

Use the error to choose the next check

Test before the church service
Run a private or unlisted test stream ahead of the service. Confirm that the Live Control Room preview appears, stream health is acceptable, and both audio and video are present. Test representative motion and audio, and leave time to resolve a problem before the broadcast begins.
