First find where the mismatch begins: compare the encoded file on your computer, the encoder output, and the YouTube live player using a clear sync marker such as a spoken word with visible lip movement or a clap. If the local file is already out of sync, correct and re-export it. If it is synchronized locally but not in the live output, troubleshoot the encoder and delivery path instead.
Find where the audio-video mismatch starts
Use the same obvious event in each check—a word aligned with visible lip movement, a clap, or a sharp on-screen impact. Compare the local encoded file, what you see and hear in the encoder, and the YouTube player. This practical comparison helps distinguish a file defect from a problem introduced later in the live chain; it is not a formal calibration test.
- Play the local encoded file. Check whether the sound matches the picture from beginning to end.
- Inspect the encoder output. Check the same event in the encoder preview or output, and look and listen directly there.
- Check YouTube playback. Compare the event in the live player with the local and encoder versions. Note the first point at which it becomes unsynchronized.
If the mismatch appears in the local file, follow the file-correction path below. If the local file is synchronized but the encoder or YouTube playback is not, investigate the live chain. The offset may stay constant or change over time; either way, use the point where it first appears to choose the next step rather than assuming one cause.
Correct sync that is already wrong in the encoded file
Compare the audio and video tracks, including their start alignment and durations. YouTube notes that an audio track shorter or longer than the video can cause sync problems and advises editing the tracks in video-editing software before uploading again.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the source or encoded file in your video editor and inspect the audio and video tracks together.
- Check whether the tracks begin together and whether they end at the same point. Look for an offset that is steady as well as one that grows or changes over the clip.
- Adjust the track alignment or duration to correct the problem. There is no universal millisecond correction: the right adjustment depends on the actual file and playback.
- Export a new file, then play that local export and verify sync before using it in a YouTube live stream.
If the new local export still fails the check, correct the file again before changing live-stream settings. A live adjustment cannot repair timing already baked into the encoded file.
Troubleshoot a mismatch introduced during live streaming
If the local file is synchronized, check the live chain in order. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder output, dashboard errors, CPU load, and local archive. If encoder output appears healthy, check outbound internet strength and contact your ISP if you find connection problems. Sync alone does not prove that the network is at fault.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Encoder output is already wrong: Update the encoder, check its audio and video sources and their timing, and inspect CPU load. If you use OBS and the issue is a live source-level offset, see the Render Delay section below.
- Encoder output is synchronized but YouTube playback is not: Check the YouTube live dashboard for errors and review the outbound connection. Use YouTube’s stream-health information during a retest.
- The mismatch grows during playback: Compare the beginning and later events in the local archive and encoder output. This helps establish whether the problem is in the file or develops in the live chain; the available guidance does not identify a single cause or universal fix for drift.
For stream reliability, YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Headroom can reduce the risk of connection trouble; it does not correct a fixed audio-video timing mismatch.
Use OBS Render Delay only for a live source offset
OBS’s Render Delay filter delays a source’s rendering and can be useful when syncing a webcam with microphone audio. It is an adjustment to a live source, not a way to rewrite timing in a file that has already been encoded.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- In OBS, open the source’s filters and add the Render Delay filter to the video source that needs delaying.
- Adjust the delay while comparing a clear audio-video event in the OBS output.
- Retest the encoder output and YouTube playback. Do not apply a live-source filter as a substitute for correcting a local file that is already out of sync.
Check YouTube encoder settings for a controlled retest
These settings are useful checks against YouTube’s live encoder guidance for RTMP/RTMPS, but they are not guaranteed fixes for a measured sync offset. YouTube advises testing before going live and using audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
| Setting | YouTube guidance | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Audio format | AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS | Verify the format selected by your encoder. |
| Audio sample rate | 44.1 kHz for stereo; 48 kHz for 5.1 | Match the setting to the audio channel format you intend to send. |
| Audio bitrate | 128 kbps for stereo; 384 kbps for 5.1 | Check that the encoder’s audio bitrate matches the relevant channel format. |
| Bitrate encoding | CBR | Use constant bitrate encoding for the live stream. |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds | Check the encoder’s keyframe interval for the stream. |
After checking settings, run a test with representative movement and audio, inspect the encoder output, review stream health, and compare the YouTube player with the local file. A settings match supports a controlled retest; it does not establish that a particular setting caused the sync error.

Do not confuse stream latency with sync error
Latency is the time between capture by the encoder or camera and the event appearing in the stream. Audio-video desynchronization means the sound and picture do not correspond at playback. A stream can have noticeable latency and still be synchronized, so reducing latency is not automatically a fix for mismatched audio and picture.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel that needs to keep uploaded videos live, StreamNeo is a separate cloud-streaming option, not a repair tool for an out-of-sync encoded file. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so no home computer or connection has to stay on.
