One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFirst, compare a local OBS recording with the YouTube livestream or VOD. If the local file is already out of sync, troubleshoot the capture and audio chain in OBS; if it is synchronized but YouTube playback is not, investigate that playback or archive path rather than changing OBS settings blindly. Then determine whether the mismatch stays constant or gets worse over time: a fixed offset can be measured and adjusted, while progressive drift needs a timing or routing diagnosis.
Start by locating where the sync problem appears
Make a short local OBS recording using the same scene, audio devices, and capture path as the affected stream. Include an obvious cue, such as a clap or a visible in-game action with a sharp sound. Compare that moment in the local recording with the YouTube stream or VOD.
- In OBS, record a short test with the same sources and routing as the problem session.
- Compare the same cue in the local file and YouTube playback. If possible, use an editor that displays the audio waveform and video separately.
- Note whether the issue appears in the local recording, live playback, the archived VOD, or more than one of these.
- Save the affected segment and OBS log. Record your OBS version, operating system, audio sample rate, capture hardware, and source routing.
A preview-versus-player difference alone does not prove that YouTube caused the mismatch. The local comparison helps separate a problem already present in production from one that appears only in playback or archiving. OBS community troubleshooting likewise recommends checking a local recording and tracing the signal chain from the original sources to OBS (OBS Forums, “Video & audio not in sync problem”).
Identify whether it is a fixed offset or drift
Audio stays early or late by roughly the same amount
This is a constant offset. Measure the displacement at a clear cue, then adjust only the source that is out of sync. In OBS, open Edit > Advanced Audio Properties and use that source’s Sync Offset. If the video source needs to be delayed instead, inspect its relevant source delay or filter. OBS forum guidance describes these controls and recommends measuring the delay in a test recording or editor before adjusting them (OBS Forums).

Keep track of both direction and amount—for example, “microphone is 120 ms early relative to camera.” Change one setting, record another short test, and compare again. Do not apply a blanket delay to every audio source if only the microphone, game audio, or capture-card feed is displaced.
Audio starts close to sync but gradually moves out
This is progressive drift, and a fixed offset will only correct one point in the recording. Check the timing and routing of audio devices, their sample-rate configuration, virtual audio paths, capture-device path, and whether OBS monitoring itself is drifting. A monitoring-device clock or buffer issue is one possible explanation raised in a specific OBS forum case, not a universal diagnosis (OBS Forums).

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
After each single change, check both the start and end of a longer test. If you align only the beginning, drift may remain unnoticed until later in the recording.
The mismatch jumps, or OBS reports connection trouble
Check the OBS log and connection indicators for dropped frames or disconnections. OBS says dropped frames point to an unstable connection to the ingest server or a connection unable to sustain the configured bitrate. Its remedies, including lowering bitrate, are aimed at those connection symptoms—not established direct fixes for audio sync (OBS connection troubleshooting). Do not change bitrate solely because audio and video are out of sync.

Trace the affected audio source through the chain
List the route each relevant signal takes into OBS. A gaming setup may send audio through a mixer, capture device, USB interface, virtual audio device, or monitoring route before OBS receives it. Compare sources individually: game audio, microphone, capture-card audio, and any other input. If only one is displaced, inspect its routing and per-source delay rather than shifting the whole mix.
- Confirm which device supplies each OBS audio source and whether the same device is also being monitored through another route.
- Check that the configured audio sample rate is consistent across the devices and software in the path.
- Note any source-specific sync offsets, video delays, filters, or virtual routing changes.
- Repeat the local recording test after one adjustment, using the same visible-and-audible cue.
A capture card is worth inspecting if it is part of the existing signal chain, but the available forum case does not establish that replacing hardware fixes sync. Start with comparison and measurement; do not buy replacement equipment on the assumption that it is the cause.

If only the YouTube stream or VOD is out of sync
If the local OBS recording is synchronized but the corresponding YouTube playback is not, preserve the exact segment and compare playback on another device or player when possible. This helps establish whether the difference is consistent across playback contexts. The sources available for this issue do not establish one definitive YouTube-side cause or a guaranteed post-stream repair for a VOD-only mismatch, so do not assume that YouTube processing is responsible without further evidence.
YouTube’s official upload troubleshooting page advises checking whether audio and video tracks have the same duration: “If your audio track is shorter or longer than your video, your audio and video may not sync correctly.” It recommends editing the tracks before uploading (YouTube Help, “Troubleshoot audio or video issues with uploads on YouTube”). This is useful when checking a local file’s track lengths, but it is upload guidance—not a comprehensive diagnosis of livestream or archived VOD sync problems.

Common mistakes that make diagnosis harder
- Changing several settings at once: you cannot tell which change mattered. Adjust one implicated source or setting, then record and compare again.
- Using a fixed delay to address drift: a constant offset and a growing timing error are different patterns. Check the beginning and end of a longer test.
- Delaying every audio source: if only one feed is wrong, this can throw the correctly synchronized sources out of alignment.
- Blaming bitrate without connection symptoms: OBS’s bitrate guidance concerns dropped frames and connection instability, not a general audio-sync repair.
- Assuming upload advice covers livestream archives: YouTube’s track-duration instructions concern uploaded video and do not explain every VOD-only discrepancy.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping an uploaded-video YouTube stream running; it does not diagnose or repair sync problems in a gaming capture chain. To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on.
