Then determine whether the offset stays constant or grows over time. Those clues point to different causes; changing YouTube’s latency setting is not a documented lip-sync fix.
Find the first point where audio and video diverge
StreamVoodoo’s public FAQ explains audio routing and echo prevention, but it does not provide a dedicated lip-sync diagnosis or a recommended sync-offset value. The checks below use the documented StreamVoodoo and YouTube workflows to isolate the stage where the problem begins; they are diagnostic steps, not a procedure claimed to have been tested.
- Recreate the issue with a short, repeatable cue: speak while visible on camera or clap once in view.
- Compare the StreamVoodoo room or Magic Link, the OBS preview, a local recording, and the resulting YouTube playback. Use the same cue at each point.
- Note where the cue first becomes misaligned. Also note whether the mismatch is already present at the start or becomes worse as time passes.
- Check whether the problem affects the recording or stream output, or only what you hear while monitoring locally.
YouTube also recommends checking the encoder output, local archive, encoder errors, and CPU load when investigating poor stream quality. Its live-stream troubleshooting guide is useful once you have identified the relevant stage.
If the StreamVoodoo room or output is out of sync
Check the selected audio devices and routing
Confirm that StreamVoodoo is using the intended audio input and output. If you route room audio back into OBS, StreamVoodoo’s FAQ warns that using the same output for room audio and desktop capture can duplicate audio. Choose a separate output path for room audio in that routing setup, then compare the room and OBS again.

Distinguish echo from lip-sync delay
When Studio Sound is on, StreamVoodoo recommends headphones so sound from speakers does not feed back into the microphone. The FAQ explains: “The reason to use headphones is to prevent audio coming out from your speakers and going through your mic causing a feedback loop/echo.” This addresses echo or feedback; it is not a guaranteed adjustment for a fixed audio/video offset. If the mismatch first appears in OBS
Check whether the delay is constant or grows
A steady offset and timing that drifts progressively are different symptoms. Inspect the relevant audio and video sources and their routing, then check whether the problem occurs in OBS’s stream or recording output or only in local monitoring. A participant in an OBS community discussion describes monitoring drift as potentially distinct from stream or recording output. Treat that as a troubleshooting clue, not a universal rule.

Check audio format consistency and computer load
If the delay changes over time, OBS forum guidance points to audio refresh-rate mismatch and limited computer capacity as possible leads. These are not certain diagnoses. Check the formats used by the relevant audio devices and whether the computer is under heavy load while streaming. Change one relevant setting at a time, then make another short recording so you can tell whether the change helped.
Use sync offset only after measuring
First establish whether audio or video arrives late and estimate the size of the offset. Do not copy a setting from another device. AVerMedia’s instructions for the Live Gamer Ultra describe a particular OBS workflow and a Sync Offset range of -50 to -200 ms for that configuration. That is a device-specific example, not a universal OBS or StreamVoodoo recommendation. Consult the AVerMedia Live Gamer Ultra guide only if you use that hardware and workflow.

If OBS and the local recording are aligned but YouTube is not
When the encoder preview and local archive look synchronized but YouTube playback does not, investigate stream delivery rather than applying an arbitrary audio offset. In YouTube Live Control Room, check stream health and encoder errors; also check encoder CPU load, review the local archive, and assess the outbound connection. YouTube advises checking the local and encoder-side evidence and, if no problem is apparent there, trying a different encoder. Its troubleshooting page also recommends contacting your internet service provider if the outbound connection is faulty.
Dropped frames are a separate connection warning, not proof that every lip-sync problem comes from bandwidth. OBS says dropped frames indicate an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Use its stream connection troubleshooting guide when you see that symptom.

Do not use YouTube latency as a lip-sync adjustment
YouTube latency settings govern capture-to-viewer delay and the buffering trade-off. Lower latency means less read-ahead buffering and can make playback more likely to buffer; YouTube does not document these settings as controls for relative audio/video alignment. Changing the mode to fix mouth movement against speech is therefore not the right diagnostic step. See YouTube’s explanation of live-stream latency.

The public FAQ reviewed here describes audio routing and echo prevention but does not document a dedicated sync diagnostic or adjustment.
