Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFind where the crackle first appears before changing settings: compare the original audio file, local playback, OBS monitoring or recording, and the YouTube replay. That sequence separates a damaged source from a playback-device, OBS, encoding, or delivery problem—and avoids changing a clean source to compensate for a fault elsewhere.
Trace the crackle through the audio path
Use the same passage for each comparison. Listen on headphones or another reliable output device if available, and note the first point where the noise appears. A crackle by itself does not identify its cause.
- Play the original file outside OBS. If it crackles here, the stream setup is not the first suspect. Inspect the file and its legitimate source; try a clean copy or re-export if appropriate.
- Play it on the computer that runs the stream. If the file is clean elsewhere but noisy on this computer, check the player, selected operating-system output device, device connection, and driver path before changing YouTube settings.
- Check OBS’s source and mixer. Confirm that the intended source is active and that its mixer meter responds during playback.
- Listen through OBS and make a short recording. Compare OBS Audio Monitoring with the source and the recording. If the noise first appears in OBS, investigate source selection, routing, levels, or monitoring.
- Compare the YouTube replay. If the file and OBS recording sound clean but the replay does not, check encoder compatibility and stream health. Also compare playback on another device or network before blaming the source or encoder.
OBS recommends listening to the device as early as practical and again when the signal reaches OBS. Its Audio Mixer Guide explains mixer levels and monitoring. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, then monitoring stream health during the event; see its live encoder settings and recommendations.
Check the OBS loop and audio routing
Confirm the file or playlist repeats
For a single local file, OBS Media Source supports MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV files and has a Loop property. For a playlist, OBS VLC Video provides a Loop Playlist option. Confirm the relevant setting is enabled and that the intended source is playing. Loop controls repeat playback; they do not repair a damaged or poorly encoded file. See OBS Media Sources.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Look for duplicate device capture
Check whether the same audio device is captured both as an Audio Input/Output Capture source in the scene and as a global device under Settings → Audio. OBS warns that capturing the same device through both paths can cause echo. Disable the duplicate global selection where appropriate, then listen again.
Watch levels and monitor at two points
Listen to the source before it reaches OBS when possible, then use OBS Audio Monitoring to hear the signal after it enters the mixer. Watch the mixer meter while the loudest passage plays: levels approaching the red zone may indicate clipping. Keep source and monitoring-device levels below clipping, and change one level at a time so you can tell whether the noise changes.

Test the actual setup before a long stream
Select the intended audio devices, confirm mixer activity, and make a short recording or test stream for a few minutes. Use the same kind of music and playback conditions planned for the broadcast, then listen to the recording or replay. YouTube’s advice is to test with audio and movement similar to the real stream and to monitor stream health.
Check audio settings and distinguish encoding from network issues
YouTube’s live encoder recommendations list AAC or MP3 audio and a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo; its page lists 48 kHz for 5.1 surround. For a stereo sleep-music stream, compare the encoder settings with YouTube’s current stereo recommendation and the options supported by the complete source, device, and encoder chain. Do not change the sample rate blindly: test the full chain and confirm the result with a recording or test stream.

OBS encoding overload is a separate possibility if audio problems appear only under sustained system load or alongside output degradation. Reduce unnecessary scene and source workload and close other heavy processes for a controlled test. OBS recommends Media Source or VLC Source for audio/video files, but its encoding-performance guidance does not establish overload as the cause of every crackle.
Likewise, dropped frames are not the same symptom as crackling already audible in the source or local OBS monitoring. OBS defines dropped frames as a connection to the remote ingest server that is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. If the noise is already present locally, diagnose that signal path separately from connection trouble.

| The original file crackles outside OBS | Inspect the file and its source; use a clean copy or re-export from a legitimate source if available. |
| The file is clean, but local playback on the stream computer crackles | Check the player, selected operating-system output device, connection, and driver path. |

| The OBS recording is clean, but YouTube playback crackles | Review encoder compatibility and stream health; compare another playback device or network before assigning blame. |
| The problem appears only under sustained system load | Reduce unnecessary OBS scene/source workload and other heavy processes, then repeat the same test and record whether the result changes. |
