If 007 First Light is stuttering, running at low FPS, failing to launch, or crashing on PC, start with the reversible fixes: restart, update Windows and your graphics driver, verify the game files, and disable overlays. Then match the next step to the symptom—SSD and shader-cache checks for hitching, graphics reductions for low FPS, or temperature and stock-clock checks for crashes during longer sessions. These PC steps do not apply to console versions.
First, identify your platform and check the PC baseline
The official troubleshooting instructions discussed here are for PC storefronts, including Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store/Xbox app. If you play on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, use the official support hub for platform-specific help rather than applying Windows steps.
For PC, note your storefront, game version, Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, display resolution, graphics settings, install drive, where the issue occurs, and any exact error text. IO Interactive’s Player Support requirements page, updated September 15, 2026, lists these PC baselines:

These are stated requirements, not guaranteed performance targets. The official Steam listing says the Path Tracing update is live and PC specs were updated to reflect it, so compare your system with current requirements and settings rather than assuming launch-era performance expectations. The current requirements page lists 16 GB RAM in its recommended column; an earlier January 2026 developer announcement listed 32 GB, so rely on the newer support page and current storefront listing when checking requirements.

Try the low-risk fixes first
- Restart the PC. This clears temporary issues before you change settings.
- Install Windows updates and restart when prompted.
- Update the GPU driver from your graphics-card vendor, then restart.
- Verify or repair the game files in the launcher you use: Steam, Epic Games Store, or Xbox app.
- Turn off overlays and recording tools temporarily, including Steam Overlay, Discord overlay, Xbox Game Bar, GPU overlays, and capture software.
These are the official guide’s first-line checks for performance trouble. For a launch failure, also remove custom launch options. Steam and Epic players can test launching the launcher as administrator. If antivirus interference seems possible, test only temporarily; if the test points to security software, add an exception for the game folder or launcher and turn antivirus protection back on.
Fix low FPS during play
Lower settings in order, checking whether each change helps before reducing more. The official guide recommends starting with resolution, followed by shadows, reflections, volumetrics, and view distance. Lower resolution can improve performance but also makes the image less sharp; the other reductions trade visual detail for rendering headroom.

- Close resource-heavy background applications.
- On a laptop, connect the power adapter and set Windows power mode to Best performance.
- If you use Path Tracing, reassess performance against the current game build and PC requirements. Older launch-era settings or frame-rate expectations should not be treated as a promise for this more demanding feature.
There is no single best preset for every PC, and no official frame-rate benchmark in the available support material. A graphics-card purchase is not a general fix: first compare your complete system with the current requirements and determine whether the GPU is actually the limiting factor.
Reduce stuttering and hitching
When hitching happens during loading or entering areas
Check that the game is installed on an SSD, as the official requirements specify SSD storage. Make sure the drive has free space, then clear the DirectX Shader Cache through Windows Disk Cleanup and restart the PC. These checks target storage and cached shader data; they do not guarantee that every stutter will stop.

When hitching comes with texture pop-in
Reduce resolution and texture-heavy settings. IO Interactive’s troubleshooting guide says heavy hitching alongside texture pop-in often indicates a VRAM limit. Treat that symptom as a clue rather than proof: lowering texture demand can help establish whether memory pressure is involved.
Address input lag or controls that feel delayed
Try enabling or disabling V-Sync and test an FPS cap slightly below your monitor’s refresh rate. Disable overlays and recording tools as well, since they can add overhead or complicate diagnosis. Change one setting at a time so you can tell which adjustment affects responsiveness.

Troubleshoot crashes and launch failures
If the game crashes at startup or shows a black screen
Start with the low-risk checks above, especially file verification, a current graphics driver, and disabled overlays. Check for game updates too: IO Interactive’s August 28, 2026 Game Update 1.1.1 announcement says it improved overall stability and fixed a PC black screen at launch that could cause a client crash. That patch addresses a specific reported failure mode; it does not mean every launch crash is fixed.
If the problem continues, remove custom launch options and test for background-software conflicts with a clean boot. Reinstalling is a last resort, after less disruptive checks.

If crashes happen during a play session
- Verify or repair the game files, update the GPU driver, disable overlays, and restart.
- Temporarily return GPU, CPU, and RAM settings to stock—this includes removing GPU or CPU overclocks and testing without XMP/EXPO memory profiles.
- Reduce demanding graphics settings and check system temperatures and throttling while playing.
If a crash tends to follow a longer session or appears after roughly 10–30 minutes, temperature and throttling checks are particularly useful diagnostics, not proof that heat is the cause. Improve cooling or airflow if temperatures indicate a problem, then retest at stock settings.
Escalate only after the simpler checks
If crashes persist, the official guide also suggests setting Windows virtual memory to System managed, checking Windows Event Viewer near the crash time, and trying a clean GPU-driver reinstall. A BIOS update is an advanced step, not routine troubleshooting; attempt one only if you are comfortable following your motherboard manufacturer’s instructions.
Contact Player Support with the details they need
Use the official Player Support contact route if the steps do not resolve the issue. Include your storefront, country or region, date and time with timezone, exact error text or code, where and how the problem occurs, steps already tried, CPU, GPU, RAM, and Windows version. Attach a DxDiag report as requested by the support form. For a known issue, check the official Known Issues page linked from IO Interactive’s patch announcements before submitting.
