That does not guarantee every controller setup will work flawlessly. Start by identifying whether the problem is detection, button mapping, menu response, or the comfort of your chosen layout; then check the installed game version and official issue updates. There is no confirmed universal fix for every controller problem.
First, identify what is going wrong
“Controller issues” can describe different symptoms. Note exactly what happens before changing settings or reporting a bug:
- No input: the game does not respond to the controller.
- Wrong prompts or mapping: the game responds, but the displayed buttons or actions do not match your controller or chosen setup.
- Menu-only problem: input works during play but not in a menu, or the controller becomes unresponsive in a particular screen.
- Awkward button layout: the controls work, but a chosen assignment makes another action difficult to use.
These are useful distinctions when checking known issues or contacting support. Official information does not establish one cause or remedy that applies to all four.
Check the game version and official updates
- Check that Steam has installed the latest available update for Crimson Moon. The developer has published fixes involving input-related behavior, so an outdated build may lack a relevant correction.
- Read the official Steam community updates and the developer’s Known Issues page for current status. Update plans can change; use the latest announcement rather than assuming an earlier feature timeline still applies.
- Compare the update to your exact symptom. The patch notes mention an earlier issue that could prevent a controller from exiting the key-remap screen. That is relevant to a similar menu problem, but it is not evidence of a general fix for a controller that the game does not detect.
Understand remapping and button-layout reports
Controller customization status has changed over time. In a developer announcement, controller button remapping was moved from Hotfix 1.0.2 to Patch 1.1. Check the latest update and your installed build to see whether remapping is available now; the older announcement alone does not confirm the feature’s current status.

A separate Steam discussion describes a specific ergonomics problem: one player found it difficult to turn the camera while sprint was assigned to Circle/B, because using that button and the right stick at once was uncomfortable. This is an individual layout report, not a confirmed game-wide defect or a diagnosis for detection problems. If your controls respond but a particular combination is awkward, record the assignments involved and check whether the current build offers remapping.
Report a problem that remains
The developer’s Steam support discussion directs players to the Known Issues page and its support site for technical reports. Use the official support discussion to find that direction, then submit a clear report through the linked support route.

Include enough detail for someone to distinguish your setup and reproduce the behavior:
- Your operating system and platform.
- Controller make and model, and whether it is connected by wire or wirelessly.
- The game version shown in your installed build.
- The exact symptom, where it happens, and steps that reproduce it.
- Any relevant button assignments, especially if the issue depends on a particular layout.
These details are practical information to include; the cited support material does not specify that each is a formal requirement.

What the available evidence does not establish
Steam’s listing confirms that the game claims full support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers, but it does not promise that every configuration is trouble-free. The official material does not verify a particular Steam Input toggle, driver reinstall, cable or adapter, replacement controller, or repair tool as a fix for Crimson Moon controller problems. Avoid treating any of those as an official solution without evidence tied to your specific issue.
