First, confirm that frames are dropping in the stream viewers receive—not just in XSplit’s Stage preview. If the delivered stream or a local recording also stutters, check computer and encoder load, then upload stability, and finally YouTube’s ingest settings. This order helps distinguish a preview-only dip from an actual encoding or network problem.
1. Confirm where the problem appears
Compare XSplit’s Stage preview with the actual output before changing settings. XSplit says the Stage can show occasional frame-rate dips even while a livestream or recording remains smooth. A Stage-only dip is not proof that viewers are receiving dropped frames. See XSplit’s FPS-related troubleshooting.
- Stage dips, stream and recording are smooth: avoid disruptive changes based on the preview alone.
- The local recording also stutters: investigate capture, system load, and encoding first.
- The recording looks smooth but YouTube playback does not: check stream health in YouTube Live Control Room and compare playback from a viewer’s connection if possible.
XSplit’s documented advice and interface labels can vary by version and selected output. YouTube’s Live Control Room health messages and XSplit’s output indicators provide complementary clues.
2. Check CPU, GPU, and encoding load
If the output itself drops frames, check XSplit’s status information for CPU and GPU usage while streaming. Heavy background applications and demanding capture or encoder settings can compete for resources.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Close resource-heavy applications that are not needed for the stream, then check whether the output improves.
- If CPU load is high, try XSplit’s Video Processing Mode set to Prefer GPU, if available. If GPU load is high, try Prefer CPU. These are diagnostic alternatives, not universal best settings.
- If your system and selected output offer another encoder, test it and compare the delivered output and resource load.
- If load remains the bottleneck, lower the stage resolution or frame rate and test again.
Available codecs, encoders, and settings depend on the hardware, XSplit version, and output service. XSplit’s output properties documentation describes configurable properties such as codec, bitrate, frame rate, and resolution; a platform may lock or override some fields.
3. Test upload stability, not just peak speed
A speed test at one moment does not show whether the connection can sustain a live stream continuously. XSplit identifies limited upload capacity, provider problems, and other active devices as possible causes. Its output settings include Test Bandwidth for the selected output; consider both the average result and jitter. A low final result alone may not be the best choice if jitter is high.

Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Run Test Bandwidth for the output you are using.
- Compare the result and its consistency with your intended video bitrate, while allowing capacity for audio and other network traffic.
- Reduce the configured bitrate to a level your connection can sustain, then test the stream again.
- If conditions fluctuate, repeat the test at the times you expect to stream. Check whether other devices or uploads are consuming capacity.
If practical, temporarily test over wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi to isolate the local wireless path. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a guaranteed fix: provider congestion, upstream routing, an unsuitable bitrate, or encoder load can still cause trouble. If an outbound connection test identifies a problem, YouTube recommends contacting your internet service provider.
4. Match the settings to YouTube’s ingest requirements
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings for the specific codec, resolution, and frame rate you send. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube specifies constant bitrate (CBR), recommends a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. The values below are YouTube’s recommendations on its live encoder settings page, accessed October 3, 2026—not a guarantee that your internet connection can sustain the recommended rate.

| H.264 stream mode | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
YouTube lists different bitrate ranges for AV1 and H.265, so do not apply the H.264 figures to those codecs. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for the stream mode you actually use. In XSplit, inspect the selected YouTube output’s properties rather than assuming every setting is editable or has the same label in every version.
5. Read YouTube’s health messages and test one change at a time
YouTube Live Control Room reports stream health and can show specific status or error guidance. Before an important stream, test with representative movement and audio, then monitor stream health while live. YouTube also advises checking the encoder’s stream appearance and CPU load, testing outbound internet, and updating the encoder; contact the ISP if the outbound connection test indicates trouble. See YouTube’s stream troubleshooting guidance and Live Control Room stream-health information.

- Poor or stuttering encoded image, especially with high CPU load: revisit sources, encoder choice, and system load.
- Encoder image appears healthy, but the outbound signal or stream health is poor: focus on upload consistency, bitrate, and the network path.
- Only viewer playback is affected: compare another viewer or connection and use YouTube’s health messages before changing XSplit settings.
Change one setting at a time and observe both XSplit’s actual output and YouTube’s health status. That makes it easier to identify which adjustment helps.
