Sony says to check whether the credit card registered to your account has expired, then verify its details or use another payment method. If you have repeatedly added or removed the card, stop and wait 24 hours before trying again; Sony says payment operations may be temporarily unavailable after repeated changes.
What WS-43709-3 means
Sony’s stated message for WS-43709-3 is: “Please check the expiration date of your credit card.” The error means PlayStation cannot validate the payment method registered to the account. The card might be expired, but an incorrect or outdated stored detail or temporarily unavailable payment operations can also be relevant. It does not, by itself, show that the console is defective.
Sony’s error-code directory lists WS-43709-3 under PS4 errors. If you see it while purchasing on PS5, the code is not officially classified there as a PS5-specific error; checking the payment method on the PlayStation account is still the appropriate first step.
Check and update the card on PS4
Sony documents this PS4 menu path: Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Wallet → Payment Methods. Menu wording can vary with system language, account region, and software version.

- Open Payment Methods and select the registered card.
- Check the expiration month and year. If the card has expired, replace it with a current payment method.
- Confirm the card number and the other information shown. As a practical check, make sure the cardholder name, billing address, and postal code match the current billing details where those fields are requested.
- Save the corrected details and try the purchase once.
Sony’s dedicated WS-43709-3 support page gives this menu path and advises checking the expiration date and registered information.
If the card is not expired
Check for recently changed card details
A replacement card may have a new number, expiration date, or security code. Verify the current card details rather than assuming that a card which worked elsewhere is still accurately stored on the PlayStation account. These are practical payment-information checks; Sony’s code description does not identify a particular bank or card network as the cause.

Remove and register the card again
- Open the account’s Payment Methods section.
- Select the affected card and choose the option to remove or delete it.
- Add it again using the current card and billing details.
- Try the purchase once.
Sony recommends deleting and registering the card again. Do not repeat this sequence over and over: multiple registration or deletion attempts can make payment operations temporarily unavailable.
Test another card or payment method
If available, try another valid credit card. Sony suggests this as an option, not a guaranteed fix. If the card continues to fail, use another payment method supported for your account’s country or region. Options may include another card or PlayStation wallet funds or a Store gift card where available; supported methods, currencies, denominations, and redemption rules vary. Check the official PlayStation Store or regional support information rather than assuming a particular option will work.

If you have made repeated payment attempts
Stop changing the card and stop retrying the purchase. Sony says payment operations may be temporarily unavailable after repeated card registration or deletion attempts and advises waiting 24 hours before trying to add payment information again. The wait is Sony’s guidance for this situation, not a guarantee that the next attempt will succeed.

Check for an outage
Before troubleshooting further, check the PlayStation service-status page for a broader service interruption. A single payment error does not establish that the Store is down.

Check before retrying after a possible charge
If your bank shows activity, first check the PlayStation account’s transaction history and whether the item was delivered. Distinguish a completed charge from a pending authorization; a pending authorization may disappear without becoming a completed charge. If a charge remains but the purchase is missing, contact PlayStation Support before trying again.
Contact PlayStation Support
Contact the official PlayStation Support hub if the card and its details are correct but re-registering it does not help, another payment method fails, or the error persists after the 24-hour wait. Support is also the right route for a possible account, billing, or region restriction, a charge without delivered content, or a missing purchase.

What not to do
- Do not keep deleting and re-adding the card; repeated changes may temporarily disable payment operations.
- Do not immediately submit the purchase again if you may have been charged; check the transaction history and bank activity first.
- Do not start with a factory reset, database rebuild, game reinstall, or network changes. Sony’s documented remedy for this code is to check the account’s payment information and payment method.
- Do not casually change the account’s country or region to get around a payment problem. Store availability and payment methods vary by region, and changing regions can complicate currency, licensing, and account management.
